How to find out the series (i series or z series)in redhat enterprise linux
If I give uname -a it gives

Does this mean that my server is in i series as it says i386..?
My printer/copier/scanner (All-In-One) is Lexmark X2250. Where can I find its driver?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with the latest Fedora. Installed it cleanly on a machine with Gigabyte H55M-S2 with Intel Core i3. There seems to be no sound and I checked to see if anything is muted but is not. The manual says that the sound chip is ALC888B so this could be the first problem. Any ide how I can make it work? Here is a dump of some things on my system.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been through a lot of posts and was still unable to connect to the internet using wvdial utility after doing all the changes. I being a newbie to this operating system, didn't know how to get started. After going through a lot of posts, I came across an application that is going to be a part of Fedora 12 called ' blueman '. It is used to connect to the internet using a gprs enabled phone via bluetooth. It integrates itself with Network Manager making it even more easier to use. To install it type the following commands in the terminal:
su
Type in your password and hit enter. Then type
yum install blueman
The application is only 575kb and will install instantly.And after a reboot fedora will show an applet related to that application. Open it and click search to list all available devices and select your phone and then select bond to pair your phone with your computer ( if it isn't already). After bonding right click your phone and select serial ports>dial up service. this will make the gprs/edge/3G connection to appear in network manager and selecting it will connect your computer to the internet.
This was the bluetooth way. If you want to connect through USB, just plug in your phone and select PC Suite mode in your phone. The fedora installation will automatically detect your phone as a modem and the connection will appear in the network manager.
This works on all N series Nokia phones and also most other phones as well.
I see there are lots of messages about fedora 12 freezing.Actually I have such a problem with fedora 11 since I updated to kernel 2.6.30. My laptop, all of a sudden, freezes. Everything is freezed: mouse is not working, keyboard not responding (hitting caps lock produces nothing), can't switch to terminals, ctrl+alt+canc don't work. I can just push the power button to shutdown the system. BUT the hard disk activity is still going on. I can see and hear the sleeping daemons that cause some usual disk activity while the rest of the system is completely freezed.My system is a HP DV5-1025el with an AMD Turion ZM-80, Ati Radeon HD3450, 4Gb of RAM and 250gb HDD.I got fedora 11 regularly updated, now has kernel 2.6.30.10-105.2.23.fc11, but it is used to happen also with older 2.6.30 kernels, NEVER happened with 2.6.29 kernels. Video driver isn't the cause, since it happens with both proprietary fglrx and OSS radeon drivers.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using OpenOffice from repo. In Calc I want to fill in 2 cells under eachother, consisting of a name, space and a digit. Then, after selecting both cells, drag them down to get a list of this name, with only the digits being different. When using OpenOffice from original download, this gave no problem. Now however, I'm presented with a Fill Series window that gives me some options like Direction, Series type, etc. And whatever I fill in, it says �nvald value. How can I get rid of this Fill Series window. The Help function in OpenOffice doesn't give a clue on Fill Series.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new ASUS laptop with the Mobility Radeon HD 5470 card.It seems like there's no driver for it yet (the amd.com download wizard is a dead end because I only find the HD 4000 series).
Is there anything I can do to get support for this card? At least I'd like to be able to change resolution. Or do I simply have to wait for a new ATI driver?
I was tried to compile the brl-cad for my IA32 machine. I install all the GNU auto series (autoconf, automake, libtool). Then I run sh autogen.sh asnstructed by the installation guide. But after the preparation finish, I check my directory. The make script does not exist. And everything broke down here. When I tried to run "make", I got this feed back: make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.(of course, there is no make file)I had run every step by using root account. Hence, there should not be any restriction on operation.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've done my best to fix this but, after encountering numerous problems, it's become apparent that while I might be a pretty good Windows user, I don't know bugger all about Linux and evidently you need to be 1337 just to install drivers, but anyway...
I have a NVIDIA 6800 GT graphics card, old but still functioning properly. Fedora 13 didn't install any drivers automatically, so I went to the NVIDIA site to see if they supported their cards under Linux. They did... sort of. It seems they only provide a 'generic' Linux display driver for x86 architectures, which wasn't preferable but it was the best I was going to get, so I downloaded it. Their site provides a setup Readme, but I've run into countless problems and finally I've come up against one that it doesn't document.
First was the fact that I couldn't install it with X window running. I assume this is the base UI for Linux, so I rebooted into run level 3 and tried again, at which point it complained about a 'nouveau' process still running. I added the line rdblacklist=nouveau to my boot so that this wouldn't be enabled, but then it complains that my GCC is missing. So, I install the GNU Cross Compiler with the Fedora RPM manager, but now the setup complains that my 'kernel source tree' can't be found and asks me to install it - but what exactly is a kernel source tree anyway?

For reasons I can't even begin to figure out, the number pad does NOT work.i can get the num lock light to come on, but pressing the keys there produces no love at all. Right before I installed F10, my F8 x64 had been working flawlessly for a VERY long time and I have been able to verify that the keypad still functions both with the M$ Windoze Vi$ta virus and a live Knoppix CD.Since this is the first time I have had this issue, I don't even know where to look to consider solving this.
I did try the System->Preferences->Hardware->Keyboard and all of the HP layouts listed there, but I still can't get anything more than the Num Lock light to come on and go out.
After Installing Fedora 12 x86 64 on my Pavilion dv2 Laptop, everything seem working good except Broadcomn Wifi Adapter..
View 1 Replies View RelatedI used Ubuntu for three years and was recently trying Debian and am now giving Fedora a try. When I switched to Linux I was almost computer illiterate. Even now I only know a little about using the terminal. So forgive me for asking such a simple question.I want to install some extra founts that I need, but Fedora is a little different than the systems I am familiar with. I quickly looked through posts in this forum and noticed solutions using long series of terminal commands. With Debian and Ubuntu I added founts by using a nautilus command to get by the permissions (specifically, gksu nautilus). Does Fedora have a similar tool, or must I use the terminal? I want to install quite few founts and do not want to spend a whole day doing it. If terminal is the best solution, I need a little clarification. I saw people using su in their command lines. Does that refer to sudo?
View 13 Replies View RelatedF12 64 bit machine, connects to a Windows share to which a HP PSC 1210 is connected through a USB connection. Printer is set to share, nicknamed "Asterix". When the printer is set up through F12, I select under Network printer "Windows printer via Samba". I browse, find the printer, and click verify. The printer is accessible. Then I finish the installation, ordering a test print. Here the strange things start happening (attached some screenshots to back the story up).
1) No error messages appear that I can find. No cups-errors, no other errors pop up on the F12 machine. The print appears and disappears from the "Document Print Status (Asterix)" window. Only on the Printer Properties page do I see something strange: Printer state: Idle - procession page 2.
2) In the Windows machine, I also can't find any error messages. The print appears in the Printer list, and stays there. The printer comes to life, checks its cartridges, rolls some wheels, and then decides to do nothing more. When I select the print and click on Properties, the default priority is 1, but when I move it up to 99, nothing changes. The only strange thing here is, that the document, according to the Windoze machine, has 0 pages, yet is some 20MB.
And nothing ever happens.
Things I think it's not:
Firewall issue. The print obviously slips through to the other end.
Faulty driver issue. Directly from the Windoze machine, and if plugged into the USB of the F12 machine, does it print perfectly fine.
I'm a Fedora 12 user on an HP Pavilion dv4 laptop. I'm currently using kernel 2.6.32.11-99.fc12.x86_64, graphics driver xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.9.1-1.fc12.x86_64, and mesa 7.7-4. My graphics card is an Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07).
I've been having some problems getting my 3D acceleration to work. Although it worked correctly in Fedora 11, I have not been able to get it to work yet in Fedora 12.

printer shows in printer list, properties are accessible. yet it does not print.
print status shows: "Printer not connected?"
I got trouble to print a photo of 10x15 cm to HP Photopaper (which was delivered with the printer itself). I printed from the UI and set the size according to the papersize (both 10x15cm) and just hit print in "High Quality". The paper gets drawn in, but then the tiny LCD screen on the printer tells me - Wrong paper size, please insert a larger paper, I have to hit the Ok/Cancel button on the Printer but the effect is the same, the printer spits the empty photo paper in front of me.Does anyone have a tipp where to look at?

I would like to use VIM to add something to the end of a series of lines. Ideally I could do something like add " X" (with a space before the X) to the end of lines 1-40 and 50-60 in a single command, i.e. ideally I could have a break in between where I didn't add something. If that's not possible just adding to 1-40 and 50-60 separately would work too. I would be using bufdo to do this, but my understanding is that anything you can do in vim you can use with the bufdo command.

I just have been on short vacation, and when I've got back, I saw pretty comprehensive upgrade of vital parts, like kernel (3.0), gnome (3.0), gdm (3.0). Since I am using true Firefox and Thunderbird, they also went up (6.0).
Anyhow, after aptitude safe-upgrade (with some minor problems), I got everything updated. However, I realize that the whole system is much slower and unstable than before. For example, applications are slower at start, Firefox and Thunderbird crash when you want to save something (like attachment, of pdf-file, or the like). Also, problems with unmounting usb drives [URL]... Does anyone else experience similar problems? What would be the best thing to do, to prevent some serious system failure (I need my system for my work, and I always get nervous when this kind of things happen)?
I recently updated to OpenSUSE 11.3 with KDE 4.4.4 . I do not find the great series of screensavers which existed in previous versions. I look in sysemsettings, desktop, but there I find only two version of blank screen as screensaver and no way to install something else.

I have been looking at Open Office calc to work the next in a series if non-linear numbers, and calc does do a very good best fit and shows the equation. Just what I want. I now want to programme this into a C routine that I am writing so that the programme will both look-up what it can from a samples database, and extend them forward where it does not have enough samples. (I'm trying to understand some correlations). My thought at present is to take the Ooo calc formula and write it into my code. Before I do so, I wonder if anyone knows of any non-linear solver routines written in C that I could just plug in? I'm trying to do a best fit from only about 6 very accurate floats which graph like a curve.

So far so simple, but some of the values might have commas in them, which means they'll be split up. Is there a way to change this so that only commas not within quotes will be replaced with ? (e.g. make sed count number of " and if it finds a , after counting an odd number of " then ignore it?)
Are any of you here using a HP G60 or a HP G70 series laptop and Slackware v13-64? If you have sound with this hardware and software mix, how did you do it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe correct 96-series nVidia drivers for 10.10 weren't issued until several months after that release. Now they do not work for 11.04 and no one on the Ubuntu forums seems to know the correct information about work arounds, I stumbled onto the X.org drivers but I do not know if I have them installed correctly or not. I am getting 1280 x 1024 at supposedly 0 Hz but probably 60Hz. It is a good work around as OC is used mostly for text editing and e-mail.
