Programming :: Need To Copy The Obtained Output Files Inside Corresponding Folders?
Nov 2, 2010
I have encountered a problem:I have "while" loop; at each run a set of outputs is produced but then I need to shift them into a corresponding folder ; otherwise next run the new outputs will be over-written. Furthermore, I need to pipe what I have on the screen inside a file. I have put my code in the following:
Code:
# !/bin/bash
jf="GeoQuery.jar"
[code]...

just installed ubuntu couple of days back on my netbook. I am still a beginner, enjoying my adventure exploring ubuntu. I have another desktop which runs on XP. I am able to access XP shared folders through my netbook(linux). However, i wanted to copy files from XP infact folders using TERMINAL in my netbook, not copy and paste using my mouse. Are there any commands for it?

I have a small program that reads stdin from a pipe using fgets. Now fgets blocks for the first line but after that it will not block.
The code, my_echo.c -
int main(int argc, char **argv) { char buf [2000] ;
char* pc ; printf("hello ") ; while (1)
{ buf[0] = (char) 0 ;
pc = fgets(buf, sizeof(buf), stdin);
if (pc != NULL) printf("%s ",buf); } return 0; }
How its called
* In terminal window 1: ./my_echo < my_fifo
* In terminal window 2: echo "1234" > my_fifo
* In terminal window 1: prints hello then 1234.
* Checking with ksysguard or top shows that my_echo is consuming 40% of CPU time.
Adding a few printf's shows that the gets is not blocking and returns a null pointer.
* In terminal window 2: echo "qwerty" > my_fifo
* In terminal window 1 qwerty prints.
I want a read function that does in fact block so my program does not tie up CPU time, read does not block.

I'm attempting to find a particular word wherever it appears within a massive directory listing of teeny tiny text files -- and then copy all files containing this word into a "staging" directory.
Whenever I use the command below (on a test folder of smaller scale), it never carries the directory structure but attempts to copy all files within the "output" folder.
Code:
cp `grep -ir 'word' *` output
how to copy all these text files and have them retain some sort of directory structure?

I am setting up a lubuntu nas with all of my music, movies, etc on it. I want to give my kids access to my mp3 directory, so I can move all of the kid appropiate music into the root of my mp3 dir, in the same order I have all of my music sorted. Under the Music folder, I have them sorted, in folders, by letter. So A, B, C, D, etc... Now, in those folders are the respective artists. So where there may be something approipate in the P folder (say, Paramore), there is something inapproipate (say, Pantera)Now, when the kids go to the P folder, I don't want them to even see the Pantera folder. I just want them to see the Paramore folder. I tried a test using chmod 711 and chmod 700 on a directory with a test user, and the user can't access the directory, but can still see it

I am trying to create a simple bash script to rsync some folders within a directory stucture. I am using wild cards, in the rsync source directory structure, but my command always fails. I believe it is the way I am using wild cards within my for loop. Here is my command ;
Code:
for seq in `cat test.txt` ; do rsync -nvP /folder/folder/folder/folder/folder/**/$seq /folder/folder/folder/ ; done This always fails, where if I do a ls to the destination, to test the path, it always works.

Basically I have a dir that contains my makefile and another directory inside this called source this holds main source files. External to these I have a couple of dirs common and drives.
In my make file I use
To include the protoypes from the headers in the folders common and drivers used by source, this works fine. However in common and drivers I use a few variables that are set in the source dir. I set these with externs inside the common and driver files. However I'm sure I should be able to set the directory path for source inside my makefile. So say I have inside source hardware.h with prototypes, I set DINCDIR = -I/Source -I../Drivers -I../CommonFiles
Then from a c file inside my common folder I say #include "hardware.h" the file should be able to see hardware.h and it's protoypes. However I get:
Is there some way I can get the extern dirs to see the source dir?
The set out is something like;

I found this command that works great finding and replacing a simple string to another in files located in that folder and all sub-folders.
Code: find . -name '*.php' | xargs perl -pi -e 's/OldText/NewText/g'
The problem I have is that I need to replace a more complex string, like this: Old string: /mnt/stor6-wc2-dfw1/627896/982574/ New string: /mnt/stor8-wc2-dfw1/369587/302589/ There I don't know how to do it... since the / is what separates the old from the new strings, and the strings that I want to replace have / in it. Also, I would like to know how to specify under what folder replace the files, for example, I want that it search/replaces all files under /var/www/mysite/htdocs folder.

During two instances now I have had to create a .js file in a folder. In one instance, (POLIPO) I can create the file, I just cannot save it. I have momentarily forgotten the error message stating why. In the second instance, I have to create a user.js file inside my Firefox folder to allow cut/copy/paste functionality in order to fully utilize an internet forum. I have a Windows desktop at home and used URL...to "fix" Firefox. My laptop, however, needs to have the same capabilities and is running Ubuntu 9.04, fully updated, and Firefox 3.0.17, fully updated.
In short, I would like to know how to have complete control over functions such as "create file" EVERY time I want to. Is this a permission issue? I have only one user on the Ubuntu box. Also, how can I modify Firefox to allow for cut/copy/paste in the Mozilla Rich Text Editor?I am new to using Linux, so a minor spoonfeeding may be required.

Way to test permissions on all files/folders into a folder recursive, then if those are not user:user then do :
Code:
chown user:user thatconcernedfile
The problem with that
Code:
chown user:user -R /folder
is that it is doing changes on file permissions whihch are already ok. If you wanna maintain a specific permission on a folder this is really not good this :
Code:
while [ 1 ] ; do
chown user:user -R /folder
# /folder contains 6.0 Tb
sleep 2s
done

I want to have the output of a program go to 2 different files but not going to standard out. Is there a way to do this in bash? I know that in Z shell its really easy. omething like: Code: echo "test" >> file1 >> file2 Would work. But in Bash it doesn't seem that easy. I know that tee will send the output to 2 files but it also sends it to STDOUT.Something like:Code: echo "test" | tee -a file1 file2 Would put the word "test" in file1, file2, and STDOUT. Is there a way to just send the output to file1 and file2?

I have been searching for a solution to the following problem:
When my distro of choice updates Firefox web browser, the directory name is '/usr/lib/firefox-<version>'.
The problem here is that the directory name is dynamic by nature and doesn't allow a simple static solution, e.g.
'cp -rf /usr/local/files/bookmarks.html /usr/lib/firefox/defaults/profile'.
The same quandary applies when adding extensions, changing prefs etc.
I have looked at the following commands:-
find, sed, xargs, grep, awk, fprint.
Unfortunately my grasp of syntax and programming is very simple at best.

I have a lot of filenames (strings) following the same convention
m02_+1+7_London_0000$01.cfg
m02_+1+8_London_0000$01.cfg
m02_+1+8_London_0000$01.cfg
[code].....
What I want to do is to create a script that will interpret the following string and save into variables part of its name
m02_+1+7_London_0000$01.cfg as
------X-Y--City---------
X=1
Y=7
City=London
[code]....
then I want to copy the files that go all the files with the same City and X and Y to the same subfolder City/MX.Y I will need some help start doing that. And I think the first would be to get part of the filenames strings into variables.

Using C++, I want to process sub-folders on my home folder sequentially each with a special naming format and containing some binary files in it:
Code:
1/
2/
3/
4/
5/
6/
...
Give above folders, I will process files in 1/ at first, 2/ at second, 3/ at third, and so on.
For some n/ folder, if I realize that n/ actually does not exist in local file system, I do not want to wait for it. Hence I will keep processing (n+1)/ folder, and so on.
However, when processing some (n+m)/ folder, previously not processed n/ folder may have been created on local file system. In this case, I do not want to miss processing it, but somehow detect its creation and process it. After processing n/ folder, I want to continue from (n+m+1)/.

I have wrote a 1 line command that parses a file, locates the IP Address in the file and then trims the output the way I want it, and then sorts numerically and by uniqueness and then >> appends to output.txt
I can get all the IP's into 1 file "output.txt", but what I am really looking for is some type of way to create a text file, for each IP it finds labeled xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.txt and also put that ip address into that file..
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx = the ip address it finds

I've been trying to sort this out for several hours and I?m totally lost? I?ve been searching around, but haven?t found the solution to my problem. I have a directory with 100 files. I need to copy 10 lines of each files (let?s say from line 45 to 55) into one unique file. So I guess I could use sed ?w, but I didn?t manage to write the right script. I also tried using a loop to create 100 different files, each one with the 10 lines) to concatenate them later on. But I only got 1 file, not 100.
