General :: Create A Signal Handler Thread To Handle SIGALRM Signals?

Jan 19, 2010

I'm trying to create a signal handler thread to handle SIGALRM signals. The main thread calls the following function before creating any other threads

Code:

pthread_t Timer::Init(long _clock_interval_musec)
{
// Set interval.
clock_interval = _clock_interval_musec;
// This is called while in a single threaded environment.

[code]....

clock_interval is 50.

Is the timer not firing? Did I not set my interval correctly? Did I not proper block the signals ensuring the that the default handler would not take care of them?

Programming :: Grep Multiple Values In Single Pass Through Log File?

Nov 13, 2010

I have a huge binary log file. There are lets say 4 id's that I want to find in a log file. I know that those 4 id's will be present in the log file and I also know in what order they will be present. I want to find 1st id from the log then 2nd id and then third id and so on..

Simple/inefficient solution is: Loop through the id's and then grep in the log file. Problem with this solution is for each id grep will search from the beginning of the file.

Better/efficient solution would be: Sine I know the order in which id's will be present in the log file. Loop through id's, grep 1st id and then move on to grep 2nd id and so on...this way I can grep all id's in one pass. Is this solution possible ?

I have 500000 + values to find in log files and I have to find efficient solution for it.

Programming :: Multiple Input Into Seq Command From Pipe - Single Column Unique Numbers

May 13, 2011

Have this script which is reading in a series of files, one at a time with while-do-done loop, each file goes through various greps/awk's where this info is then saved to various files for later use. i.e....

Script is being run on Linux Red Hat,

In one of the grep/awk's the output (currently) are 2 columns (min max), i.e....| awk '{print $1, $2}' | sort -u which outputs (e.g.)

The number of "min max" pairs varies from file to file. Want to output a single column of unique numbers from the min max pairs & get the number of them for input to a file...i.e...

Where <PROCESS> is some process/technique that will generate a single column of integers (increment of 1) to pipe into the next one (sort -u)

i.e. (example from above)

Have tried command seq - only works for single pair input i.e.

Is there any command like seq etc which will output a single column based on a input of min max numbers (increment 1) to pipe onwards to next command?

Programming :: Catching The Output Of 'split'?

Mar 10, 2010

How do I catch the output of split and redirect it to another directory?for example,if my working directory is 'Documents' and I split a file called text.one into 4 files of 100 lines each (xaa, xab, xac, xad), how would I get those split files to be written into 'Directory/subdirectory' instead of 'Directory'?And is it possible to rename those split files so that the split name is suffixed with the original file's name e.g instead of xaa, xab... can they be written as text.one.xaa, text.one.xab..?I've thought about using '>' to send the output to a new directory but it doesn't work; and I've thought about piping the results to another command but I don't know what that other command should be.

Programming :: Using SIGNALS In Kernel Modules?

Apr 23, 2010

I am writing a kernel module which need to do something at some interval. Now this problem can be solved by using a user process, which will send signal to the kernel and the kernel would do accordingly. But it would be nice, i could do it within the kernel module itself. Is there any way to use SIGNALs inside the kernel module?

Now, when transaction ends, I want to wake up all the threads from sleeping. For this I am using pthread_kill() to wake up the threads using signal SIGUSR2.

Problem raises when I put more transactions(eg. 100 trans). My process gets hangup.

Debian Programming :: Serial Port Signal Handler

Jan 14, 2015

Basically I'm intending to write serial RX signal handler.Application receives defined packages of data over serial which contains header and payload. Handler should analyse incoming stream and upon detection of header (header is 6B in length) switches to receive payload of length defined in header, then after receiving full message packs it and sends to application for handling.Problem I'm facing is that at random moments in signal I receive errors that "Resource temporarily unavailable" while reading from ttyOx device and I see that sometimes I miss incoming data.Also is it possible that if while I'm handling signal one more signal arrives and it is started to be handled parallel? If it is, what are the ways to prevent it? So I would be sure that no more signals will fire on same peripheral until I will finish handling what I have on my hands now.

Serial open and init:
Code: Select allint open_port(int port_nr) {
    int fd; /* File descriptor for the port */
    switch (port_nr) {
    case 1:
        fd = open("/dev/ttyO1", O_RDWR | O_NOCTTY | O_NDELAY);
        break;

Programming :: Panic - Killing Interrupt Handler - Not Syncing

May 10, 2010

I have written a Linux kernel module (in Linux 2.4, Red Hat 9) which does the followings: It takes srcIP, sourceport, destIP, destport and loadvalue as command line arguments. If configured load value is greater than 1, it creates different channels (i.e. No of UDP channels created equals to configured load value), assign different source port and destination port to different channels and send UDP datagram in different channels. Say for example the configured parameters are as follows srcIP=10.17.17.43 destIP= 10.17.17.44 sourceport=10000 destport= 20000 loadvalue=2.

Then it creates two UDP different channels and transmits UDP packets (in every 20 milliseconds) to destination IP address (i.e., 10.17.17.44) with source port 10000, destination port 20000 in one channel and source port 10002, destination port 20000 in another channel. When I configure to pass ?loadvalue=500? and run the module, I get the below kernel panic message in system log file (i.e., var/log/messages) 0>Kernel panic: Aiee, killing interrupt handler! In interrupt handler - not syncing. Running the same linux kernel module ,in 1000 loadvalue, I get this message, eth0: Out-of-sync dirty pointer, 49937 vs. 49954 in text console. I am unable to catch the root cause of these problems and how will I solve these?

Programming :: Why Different Signals Send To Programs That Exceeded Memory Limit Set By Setrlimit()?

Sep 2, 2010

I'm having a problem with setrlimit() under linux.

If i used setrlimit(RLIMIT_AS) to set a hard ceiling of virtual memory usage first, then request memory more than that, shouldn't i receive a signal like SIGSEGV?

First i tried the command ulimit in bash, which acted as if i called setrlimit(). i tried 3 programs that overflowed the memory limit i set. i though all the programs would be terminated by a SIGSEGV. but the pascal program received SIGKILL; the C++ program got SIGABRT› the C program, SIGSEGV.

I though there maybe something different between setrlimit() and ulimit, so i wrote a program in C++, fork() first, setrlimit() then execv() in the child, and wait(&status) in the parent. but i got the same result.

I was wondering why these could happen, and could anyone tell me how could i deal with them? i mean, how can i judge that the program exited abnormally because it exceed memory limit?

Programming :: Function Handler Is Called One Time Only Instead 2 Times If The 2 Timers Expires At A Time

Mar 2, 2011

I am using Debian linux. I have 100 timers running. If a timer expired which will generate a signal and it was mapped to a same function handler. All the timers are mapped to one function handler. The problem is if the timer expires one at a time, the function handler called at a time. But if the 2 timers expires at a time, the function handler is called one time only instead 2 times. Is it possible to invoke the function handler as many times based on timer expirary happens simultaneoulsy?

Programming :: Passing Data From Interrupt Handler Function To Tasklet Function?

May 18, 2010

I am doing some Linux kernel programming for my research project. I need to record the timestamp (by using cpuid and rdtsc) when an interrupt handler (top half) is first invoked. Due to the time critical nature of the problem itself, I have to do the timestamping inside the interrupt handler itself (the first operation when the handler is called). However, I understand that tasks that are not so time critical should be deferred to a tasklet function (bottom half) for processing because other interrupts are disabled in a (top-half) interrupt handler. I am currently out of idea on how I can pass the timestamp information that I have obtained in the interrupt handler to the corresponding tasklet function.

Fedora Networking :: Multiple IP On Single NIC?

All are configs under network-scripts. But neither of them worked for me. Even grabbing a working example from my live server doesn't do the trick (though the server is a CentOS 5.5).

Currently using eth0-range0

Ubuntu :: Single USB Install For Use On Multiple PCs?

Jun 29, 2010

I have an Ubuntu install on an 8Gb SDHC Card, customized for my Toshiba NB205. It took quite a bit to get sound and BT working, but now it's fine. Just out of curiousity, I used this same SDHC Card to boot my Dell D610 -- it booted, and sound and WiFi worked fine. I was surprised. There was a single error message after the desktop appeared, but I didn't record it.

I am now wondering: is it practical to use a single USB installation with multiple devices? I can imagine a number of complications, but was surprised that my attempt worked on two very different hardware platforms. There was discussion, when pendrives first appeared, of being able to use one to boot any PC to your own USB-based OS, bypassing any other OS installed on the PC.
