Programming :: Access The "page" Variable Inside The Script To See What Args It's Been Given?
Apr 16, 2010
I have a PHP script which will show info from 5 lines in a MySQL database, with a "next" button to show the next 5 lines and so on. Initially it'll get called with a ?page=1 in the args in the URL, and then onward I want the "next" button to link to the same script , but with a ?page=2 in the args. First of all, how can I access the "page" variable inside the script to see what args it's been given? (sorry, extremely newbie question here )
And secondly, what will the code for the "next" button look like? If the script is called "seenames.php", I want this: print "A HREF="...cgi/seenames.php?page=$page+1">Next</A> , if you get my meaning. But what will the quoting for the above line be? I'm sure I've got it wrong.

Does declaring variable inside a function give an extra overhead on an application? Would it be better to declare the variable globally and just reuse it? Example
Code:
#include <blah>
char mybuffer[2048];
int main()
[code]....
The only difference is the declaration of my variable. Since myfunction() will be called many times will it add an additional overhead if it will create mybuffer[2048] over and over?

I have a text string I want to pass as the second arg to a bash shell.
My python line is :
The first arg "gap" works great and the bash shell uses it as $1
I need "fill" passed along as $2 intact
Here is the bash line:
As you can see after the -f it has to be in single quotes and $FILL will complete the single quote
Nothing is getting passed as a second arg from python, I did have the first word at one time but that was 85 tries ago and forgot how I did it!
The bash script complains about an unterminated quote.

I'm trying to read content of file to variable and use this variable in for loop. The problem is, when I have c++ comment style in file - /*. Spaces in line are also interpreted as separated lines.
For example:
Code:
Changing $files to "$files" eliminate these problems but causes that whole content of variable is treated as one string (one execution of loop).

my script has a variable which comes in the form +00.00 +0.00 -00.00 or -0.00 (the numbers can be any in that form) for any that have a + symbol I need to remove the +, but if it has a - symbol it needs to stay.
i need to make a new variable with the string from the old variable btut without any plus sign. I have tried a lot of different ways with no success, each thing I tried either left the + or removed the entire string. I think this should work but doesn't
foo=+12.40
bar=${foo#+}

how I can search within a variable and assign the results to a new variable. I'll use the following as an example -
cars="Audi BMW Cadillac Chevy Dodge Ferrari Ford Mercedes"
list=`echo ${cars} | egrep -o '<A?+|<C+'`
with the echo command I get the following output assigned to list -
A
C
C
What I'd like to get for output is -
Audi
Cadillac
Chevy
how I could do this regardless of upper/lower case letters?

I've been researching this all day with no luck thus far. Basically I need to cutoff port 21/ftp access from IP addresses outside of my local network. My local IP range is something like 192.168.0.100 - 192.168.0.150 -- so anything outside of this range would automatically be blocked.
Any IP address outside of this range would be denied as I use SFTP for remote access, etc. from home, etc.
I've researched IP tables, tcp wrappers, etc. but am still unsure which would be best for what is probably a simple fix.

Basically I have a dir that contains my makefile and another directory inside this called source this holds main source files. External to these I have a couple of dirs common and drives.
In my make file I use
To include the protoypes from the headers in the folders common and drivers used by source, this works fine. However in common and drivers I use a few variables that are set in the source dir. I set these with externs inside the common and driver files. However I'm sure I should be able to set the directory path for source inside my makefile. So say I have inside source hardware.h with prototypes, I set DINCDIR = -I/Source -I../Drivers -I../CommonFiles
Then from a c file inside my common folder I say #include "hardware.h" the file should be able to see hardware.h and it's protoypes. However I get:
Is there some way I can get the extern dirs to see the source dir?
The set out is something like;

im pretty sure this is a remedial task for many of you but im having an issue with arrays from a shell script being accessed in an awk command. im pretty good with shell scripting but i am embarrassingly unfamiliar with awk. so here's the meat of the script...
Code:
I am trying to take an input file of ip addresses and corresponding netmasks and put it into a format to be loaded onto a juniper switch. the result should look something like this.. x.x.x.x/netmask using the cidr notation. no matter what subnet is provided though, /32 always gets appended to the end of the ip even when it should be /16, /24, etc... also, the cisco part works fine so that doesnt need any attention.

I'd like to have the second column in decimal instead of hex, like this:

Is there any way to do that with awk, preferably in a oneliner? Would printf be an option?
