May 26, 2010
I've writte a small Munin plugin using python, which basically runs a shell command, and write the output to a file. For some reason the script fail quite often, and it seems to be failing at the "commands.getoutput" statement. This is what's leading up to that statement:

I'm trying to write a python script that will use the current user's name when interacting. Ex: when started, it should say "hello daweefolk" when I am logged in.
I've tried
Code:
username=os.system("echo $USER")
but the variable remains empty.
What is the correct code?

I've already used line split stuff to transform my data into something like this in a text file:
Code:
['1', '1', '3', '20.7505207']
['2', '1', '3', '23.0488319']
['3', '1', '3', '-1.5768747']
['4', '1', '3', '-26.4772491']
[code]....
How can I get this on a python program so I can manipulate it as an array?

I created variables in python and would like to be able to incorporate those into bash commands that will be mixed into the script. Example:
Code:
name=raw_input("Type your name and press ENTER: ")
import os
os.system( echo "name")
Of course this doesn't actually work, but i think you get an indication of what I am trying to do.

I am trying to fix a perl script, and I really suck at perl. But I think this problem will be easy for people who know it.
The problem is, I have an old setup script someone wrote many years ago. It fails if the standard shell is dash and not bash. The only way I've gotten it to work is to point /bin/sh to bash. I looked thru the script and it uses "system" many places, and I think that's the problem.
I searched for it and found this link:url
My plan is to include this function:
Code:
sub system_bash {
my @args = ( "bash", "-c", shift );
system(@args);
}
Then I could simply change all calls to system into system_bash and it should work?
The parameter to the system calls is usually some variable. What if the parameter is a list already? Do I need to test for it somehow, and if it's a list, prepend "bash" and "-c" to the list? How do I do that?
In the script there are lots of places like this:
my $error = system($cmd);
if ($error) {
die/warn "some error message";
}
Shouldn't there be a return in the system_bash function?

I am trying to install farsight2-0.0.17 so can use camera in amsn, but its configure fails on python headers, actual error is :
checking for headers required to compile python extensions... not found
configure: error: could not find Python headers.
I have even tried to install the latest python from source (Python-3.1.2). I am using Mandriva 2010.0 kernel version 2.6.31.12-desktop586-3mnb kde 4.4. If I knew what the file was, could use 'whereis' to find the directory.

Is there a way to use exec, but if exec fails to go on with the script?
Example:
Code:
#!/usr/bin/env bash
exec startx
echo "Starting of X failed"
If startx fails, the echo will be seen on the screen. I tried all kind of stuff, but guess it ain't of much use to post it here. I searched the web, but searching for "exec and bash" in one sentence does give results which are not what i am looking for.

I got assigned to a project, where the installation is done over ansible. As I'm new in linux, python, django, ansible I wanted to try this out on a empty linux debian.
Code: Select alluname -a
Linux DebianABC 3.16.0-4 amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.16.7-ckt20-1+deb8u4 (2016-02-29) x86 64 Gnu/Linux
When I now run my ansible playbook it tries to install mysql and suddenly I get an error:
Code: Select all:stderr: DEPRECATION: --allow-external has been deprecated and will be removed in the future. Due to changes in the repository protocol, it no longer has any effect.
DEPRECATION: --allow-unverified has been deprecated and will be removed in the future. Due to changes in the repository protocol, it no longer has any effect.
Could not find a version that satisfies the requirement mysql-connector-python==1.0.12 (from -r /home/abc/abcTest/requirements.pip (line 36)) (from versions: )
No matching distribution found for mysql-connector-python==1.0.12 (from -r /home/abc/abcTest/requirements.pip (line 36))
FATAL: all hosts have already failed -- aborting
So I checked the target machine and tried to run
pip install -vvv -r requirement.txt mysql-connector-python
As version 1.0.12 is an old version, I was searching and tried the following: [URL] ....
But also if I run the installation by direct download I have the same error message:
Code: Select allabc@DebianABC:/home/abc/abcTest$ pip install -r requirements.pip -vvv mysql-connector-python
Collecting http://cdn.mysql.com//Downloads/Connector-Python/mysql-connector-python-1.0.12.tar.gz (from -r requirements.pip (line 36))
Starting new HTTP connection (1): cdn.mysql.com
"GET //Downloads/Connector-Python/mysql-connector-python-1.0.12.tar.gz HTTP/1.1" 200 230923
[Code] ....
I was reading about the version requirements from PEP: [URL] .... but as the version looks ok, this should not be the problem.

I've been using OpenSUSE 11.4 with GNOME for quite a while now and so far I've been a happy camper. This morning I decided to try GNOME 3 and the install went smoothly, with the only exception of rhytmbox(my music player of choice) not being available.Later I found rhythmbox for GNOME 3 in this repo: Index of /repositories/ GNOME:/ Apps/openSUSE_11.4+GNOME_STABLE_3.0.It works well but the Cover Art plugin won't load because it fails to import python-gstreamer.Should I report a bug against OpenSUSE 11.4 or maybe I am doing something wrong?

How do I kill a python application from the command line? For an example I have 2 applications running. The first is bleachbit and the second is furiusisomount. They are both python applications so they both come up as python under process name. I could kill them by ID number but if there was another way to do it so that it could be automated in a bash script.

I had problems with python stuff and so update manager did not work. Also many other problems, PiTiVi was installed but did not start eg... After many trials of this and that I removed python-gtk2 and so also ubuntu desktop. But was unable to get it back. Now I cannot even shut down. While it is not possible to install desktop or anything else, would it be possible to fix this by upgrading the whole system to 10.04 (10.10?)? Would it fix python installation. How could I do it. Some info tells to change sources.list and run apt-get upgrade, but some tell not to do so.

I have an existing line of code from a P2 script that I cannot find a solution to converting to P3:
Code:
for i, x in map(None, list1, list2):
I have found the information about converting the simple case:
map(None,x) becomes list(x)
But my googling was unable to find a solution when more than one iterable exists.

I have a python script I wrote a while ago and now I would like to call that script from inside C. I know how to do one command from C, but how would you execute an entire script from C, and passing arguments? Like:
Code:
int main(void)
{
python( myprogram(1 2 3) );
}
So I can pass arguments to my script.

I have a bash script that I want to import in to Python, mainly just to see if I can or not. However in the script I do use some piping of commands into sed to trim it down to what I need. When I tried doing it with the os.system() call, it didn't work. The exact error is
sed: -e expression #1, char 16: unterminated `s' command
However the command that was run can be run in bash without an error. Is there a better/another way to do this? For reference the command is:
Code:
locate -n 1 wp-config.php | sed 's/wp-config.php/
/g' | sed '/wp-config.php/ d' | sed '/^$/ d'
