Programming :: Perl: Turning A Seconds-since-the-epoch Number Into "X Days Ago" Or Similar?

Aug 26, 2010

Is there a perl module that will let me turn numbers into human readable measures of time? For example, 1280513294 would be "26 days ago". If so, what's its name?

Programming :: Perl Script - Phone Number Validation

Apr 1, 2010

I am doing a perl script validation for Phone numbers. The normal phone number format is 01-32145. I need to do two validations for the phone number

1) A valid phone number can have at least two digits as prefix and at least five digits as postfix. e.g. 01-01011
2) A valid phnoe number can't contain only the digit "0" in either area code or phone number e.g. 00-11111 or 01-00000 is not allowed.

I am able to do the first validation, but not the second. I am pasting my code part here. How to add the second validation inside my current code.

open(TMPOUTPUT, "<$tmp_output_file") or die "Can't open output";
open(OUTPUT, ">$output_file") or die "Can't open output";
while ($line = <TMPOUTPUT>) { $line =~ s/ +
//; ($cur_phone, $xxxxxx, $xxxxxx) = split(";", $line);
($cur_phone_prefix, $cur_phone_postfix) = split("-", $cur_phone);
$length_prefix = length ($cur_phone_prefix);
$length_postfix = length ($cur_phone_postfix);
if ($length_prefix < 2 || $length_postfix < 5 ) {
print "Invalid phone number: $cur_phone ";
} else { print "Valid phone number: $cur_phone ";
} } close TMPOUTPUT; close OUTPUT;

Ubuntu :: Toshiba Laptop - Hardware - Screen Goes Blank After Few Seconds - From Turning On

Sep 16, 2010

I'd like your input on this. A toshiba laptop screen goes blank after few seconds(from turning on).

At first i thought it was fan that was out and once it got hot enough it cut the laptop off like my old Acer did.

But after close examination i noticed that it continues working. HD still spining and fan blows..

Example: Turn on>Hit F2 to go in to Bios> Bios screen appears>Before i have a chance to do anything it geos blank but continues working> I hit Cntrl ALt Del> it resets and screen comes right back up>second later it goes blank again.

ALSO the toshiba logo and whole screen seems to have a red tint to it.

I also get a media test error but that is likely from hard drive not being there during some of the tests.

DO you think it can be an LCD Backlight issue? or possibly video card?

Programming :: Convert A Given Date To Epoch Time And Vice Versa?

Jan 5, 2011

I'm developing a C++ application which is run on linux. I need to calculate epoch time for a given date and vice versa. (no of seconds elapsed since 1979-01-01) I used the following two methods.I need to convert the given date to epoch time and again convert that epoch time to the corresponding date.But the following methods doesn't give me the correct answer. Method to calculate the epoch time:

Code:

time_t HistoryCache::ConvertTimeToEpoc(const char* _zTime,const char* _zFormat)
{
struct tm tmTime;
strptime(_zTime,_zFormat, &tmTime);

[code]....

My problem is this. Lets think that the value I get as epoch time for the 2010-01-05:000000 is 1262649600. (lTime value) Then I use the same value (1262649600) as a input to the GetTimeStamp method, I didnt get the dateString as 2010-01-05:000000. The date is changed by one day.

Can someone show me a simple method to find out number of days between 2 dates?

Example: How would I find the number of days between 25-12-2003 to 25-12-2010? Could someone write a line of code that takes in the two dates and outputs the number of days? Or is there a program that can do this?

I know of websites that do this but I'd also like an offline method.

Programming :: Non-root User Determine Which Days The Computer Ran?

Mar 22, 2010

Is there any way a non-root user can programmatically determine which days the computer ran during, say, the last month?

The information is in /var/log/messages.* but those files are root:root 640.

Non of the world-readable /var/log files on the Slackware 13.0 development system can be used:boot Not present if boot logging not enabled (default). dmesg No timestamps. lastlog Not enough info. wtmp Rewritten on each boot so not enough info. EDIT: not correct: by default wtmp is rotated weekly and kept for one month as configured in /etc/logrotate.conf xdm.log Not present if xdm not used. Xorg.0.log Not present if X not run.

Programming :: Use Of Dlopen When Forking Many Similar Processes?

Dec 27, 2010

I am building a queue system (in C on CentOS 5) where each directory queue has a number of process instances 'watching' it. I have a root-permission queue supervisor process which does all the forking, and the instance processes give up root as their first action. For max security each queue is accessible to a different set of users and groups.

I need to keep the RAM requirements as low as possible, so I am relying heavily on copy-on-write (since all memory writes are to shmget() shared memory)

Each process presently dlopen's the libraries it requires after fork, but I'm wondering if I would gain by performing the dlopen before forking a number of instances which all require the same libraries.

Any pointers to mid-level tutorials on dlopen and fork internals would be most appreciated: this is about my third post anywhere since I converted to Linux, but I just can't find the answer to this anywhere online.

This would allow different modules to be used based on the users wants without having to mess with code. A different module could be downloaded into the application directory then loaded. Basicaly the code would be handed a pointer process it then return it.
