I try to use XML::Simple to read each 'feed' from following RSS from CNN. Some of the sets contains more than one feed item which has no unique identifier besides its contents.

I have a server listening on incoming client connections. Once the client establishes SSL connection with the server, the server waits on read() from the client. Only Client can disconnect the connection. I want to have a timer in the server program to wait for x secs after read() and then disconnect the Client connection.

I am trying to write a script which can read the names of all folders within a given folder into separate variables. In effect, if a folder contains a folder "Folder1", "Folder2", "Folder3", the script would read those names into variables such as:
Variable1 = "Folder1"
Variable2 = "Folder2"
Variable3 = "Folder3"
I have tried fiddling with the find . command, but without any success.

I'm facing a problem in a - at least I though it would be - simple BASH script. I use 'awk' to find matching lines in a file, and then use while-read to modify each line matching the expr casted in awk. It looks like this:

awk '$NF~/^./{print $NF}' FILE.TXT|while read line; do
bla bla bla ...
[code]....
However, each time the execution hits the 'read choice' line, it doesn't prompt - as well as pause the excution - the user for a choice: it just passes it. This problem just happens inside the while loop.

Just a quick question. If I were to use PHP to read an RSS page that is online, what "browser" (user-agent) would the webserver detect my PHPs request as? If that doesn't make any sense I'm referring to information such as Code:Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.17) Gecko/20110420 Firefox/3.6.17 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729)

I am trying to read the contents of a file into something else. I have a file.txt that I am working with, I want to read the file and take the data and run some commands with the data that it read. So if it read www.yahoo.com I want to be able to nslookup. Does that make sense? I have been trying to use the read command but that does not seem to work. I even was trying to read filename | > filename to see if I could even read any of the data at all. Nothing is working.

I am trying to write some code that interfaces with an AVR over a serial port. Basically I send a command then read the output which is 6 bytes. I need to receive all 6 bytes before the program continues. Is there a way to do this? If I use read() it returns -1 unless I add a delay before reading the port. Is there a way to get it to read the 6 bytes as soon as they arrive?In python you simply say how many bytes you want and the max time you are willing to wait which seems a whole lot easier than read

have been playing around with a script for a few hours and now I need to be able to output the lines in a text file one by one to be used later in the script.What it gonna do is to read a log file and grep the usernames, then write them to a file, and then run one script for each user, to search for more information about them in the log.But I don't know how to output a single line from a file, and google does not return any solution.

I am using the API libpcap in order to filter the traffic of the port 53 from my PC ro other PCs, in other words the DNS traffic.I want to get more information about the DNS traffic that is being sent to the DNS server, in other words the queries. So far I have no idea how to read the information data or payload of the UDP package in order to read the content of the traffic for example if there is any PTR, A, MX, etc Resource Record.According to the RFC 1053 there is a header that is possible to use in order to easily get this info.

I have a script that reads part of a line, delimited between the first and second intended part by a colon. Then it "chops" the part after the colon, which are words offset by commas (counting them beforehand so as to catch every word in the string's second part), like this:

single script that parses/breaks both parts of a line like this "COLORS.JPG:red,orange,yellow,green;blue,indigo,violet," so that the two parts, separated into single words (or two and three words, sometimes with spaces) can be used as single-line annotations and written to JPEG files using Exiv2. So far, I haven't been able to come up with a script that does this without one part of the total string(usually that part after the colon) becoming the first word in the second array. In other words, I look for this:
KEYWORDS:
[ ]red
[ ]orange
[ ]yellow
[code]....
Or vice-versa (ie, the second array winds up as a single-line "member" of the first). I think it's because I'm using a single while read loop to read the text file in which the filenames and substrings happen to be. If there's some way of reading a file once and going back to the beginning to read it again in another while loop, I haven't found it.

I am struggling with Bash scripting at the moment (I can't seem how anyone can write scripts with this language!!!) I have a need at home to have a cron job execute daily to lookup my downloads.txt file, read each url (per line) and download content from that url. Then that entry needs to be removed (well I keep all urls in memory and clear the file afterwards). If an error occurred during the download process, then the url is written to a downloads.err file. I got all the above working except for properly reading the url from the text file without including newline characters. I am using the following to read:
while read url; do
--Do whatever here--
done < downloads.txt
How can I get it not to let the url variable have newline characters?

I have just started using Valgrind,which really is great. Most of the reported errors look kinda weird, though I can't really understand what's going on here, for example:

Basically, Valgrind reported the "Invalid Read" error at line 270 of file MyCls.cpp, which is simply a cout of the m_FilePtr variable, which is a member variable of the MyCls class. It's a FILE* variable I use to write repeatedly on a text file. The address reported (0x47a5ee8) is 296 bytes after the "this" pointer (0x47a5dc0),as Valgrind correctly tells me but I honestly don't understand that. And of course, I need to read that variable, not only for the cout (indeed,the error is reported at every reading attempt). Besides, the application doesn't crash, but still I would like to understand if I really have to worry about this "error".
