For some reason Eclipse 3.4.2 I installed is always picking up the 1.6 JDK and bombing out even though I have 1.4.2 installed. How do I make Eclipse point to the 1.4.2 version I have? I see there is an eclipse.conf file and perhaps that's where I make the setting? And which setting should I put there?
View 4 RepliesI am running centos 5.4. I just installed eclipse from Application,Add/remove software. The version that installed was not the latest version. I can remove the version I just installed but how should I install the latest version? I was able to dl the lastest version but it came in a .tar.gz file eclipse-java-galileo-SR1-linux-gtk-x86_64.tar.gz When I unzipped it, there was no install option but I was able to run it from the tmp folder.
I want to add a menu item under Applications, Programming to link to the latest version that I just downloaded but I haven't been able to figure this out. The 2 question I have are this: 1- Is there a way to have the latest version show up under Application,Add/remove software so that I can just uninstall the version I installed and get the lastest?
2- Is there a way to install the downloaded version and have it show up under Application, Programming? I love this OS but it's taking me a while to figure out some simple things.
Currently doing a java course and we have been using eclipse throughout and I installed it to my ubuntu system to have a little play with it and it is much different to the windows version which we're using. When I try and start a new java project, all these rather odd wizards come up about starting projects and java isn't mentioned at all. Do I have to initialise eclipse with java? I am very comfused, it seems a nice editor to work with.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just been gifted with a Linux dedicated server for the next six months, with an option to renew after that time has expired, and I'd like to set it up for FTP/P2P use. I do have some familiarity with Fedora from work, but only as a pre-installed desktop OS. The company providing the server has asked me to choose a OS, so of course I picked the one with which I already have some knowledge. They've also asked me to provide partition and mount point information, and it's here that I'm having some problems. I've spent most of my free time today reading everything I could about partitioning for a server, and I'm still not comfortable making this decision on my own.
The server comes with two drives - one 500GB and one 1TB, and 8GB RAM. My thinking is to use the 500GB drive for the OS, and the 1TB for media storage. I know I still have a good bit of learning to do, but I just want to get the blasted thing set up so I can get on with the hands-on part of figuring out how it works.
I have a Sonicwall access point, which I am able to set up through the interface, but after that I am unable to achieve a connection through my wireless card. I have a good understanding of everything involved, but really have no hands on experience when it comes to networking.

I also have a second problem, which is that I want to use WebMin to manage this server, but I cannot figure out how to get the ADSL client module configured -- RP-PPPoE version 3. It seems to expect to work with pppoe-start, pppoe-stop, and pppoe-status, but when I try to run pppoe-status it says "Link is down", even though my ppp connection is actually working.Is is possible to use the WebMin ADSL client module with Ubuntu? I spent a lot of time trying to get pppoe-start, stop, etc. working but it was a complete mess and never seemed to behave. Finally, I just put the ppp startup commands into the /etc/network/interfaces file and that worked, but now the pppoe-* commands no longer seem to function.

It's been a royal pain trying to get them to synchronize time properly.Currently I'm looking at 7 client's login screen and each one has different time. It's frustrating and I've done all the reading I could in regard to NTP and LTSP with time, etc.I'm trying to even set NTP to point to an external server, but my thin clients don't get that setting for some reason. They still pick whatever time they want to present to the end user. Once the user logs in, the time seems to be fine. It's just at the login screen.Since I'm no expert on NTP I figured I'd ask to see what users here thought.
EDIT - I was told that the GUI version of Ubuntu handles NTP at System-Administration-TimeAndDate. Is this true? I was told my /etc/ntp.conf file is empty because that file is only used in the server edition of Ubuntu.
I have been using Eclipse to program in Java for a long time, and have been using Jigloo for most of my GUI design. Recently I decided to try out the C/C++ plugin. I tried installing it, but it did not work. After many attempts, I finally gave up. However, after uninstalling it I found that Jigloo had stopped working. Any other plugins I try to install now also don't work. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling plugins, and reinstalling eclipse, but nothing I have done fixes it. Although eclipse says that the software has been installed, nothing shows up in the features list or the plugins list.
Another problem: When I install eclipse from the repositories, it doesn't install a bunch of libraries and eclipse cannot recognize standard java files.

My very first problem was that I needed the JavaEE version, which is not in the distro. The second problem is that the distro version has issues:
Problems with the distro version: The infamous "button doesn't work" problem (more on this later) The plugin / updates don't work, so you can't add any modules Copying and pasting is very erratic
However, if you simply download and unpack 3.4.2 from the Eclipse site, you'll get a "Problem has occurred" error when you try to launch it.
Here are the steps to get this running:
* Unpack the .tar.gz package into a folder that is writable by your userid
* To fix the "An Error has occured" problem: Add the following line at the very end of the eclipse.ini file:

Eclipse - The Eclipse Foundation open source community website. has packages for linux but I'm not sure which version (Helios, Galileo, Ganymede) will work best with openSUSE.

This one has been driving me nuts for some days now:My Gentoo box which is acting as an internet gateway has two point-to-point interfaces, ppp0 (PPPoE to my ISP) and ppp1 (PPTP VPN link to IPREDator). Packets from my local network are just routed through ppp0 and now the fun part starts: I want to MARK (netfilter...) all packets originating from one specific user on that box in order to use another routing table that will contain a default route via the ppp1 interface.Marking seems to work fine as does the second routing table. I've just installed openSUSE 11.4 64bit Gnome and after that I downloaded eclipse-cpp-helios-SR2-linux-gtk-x86_64.tar.gz (CDT version for eclipse). I downloaded the linuxtools and tried to write some lines and I got a crash. I have the Oracle Java installed on the system. I restarted eclipse but seems that I cannot get rid of this crash. Did you experince something like this?

I am new to Fedora (I have always used ubuntu in the past), and I am trying to download eclipse. Unfortunately, "sudo yum install eclipse" is returning "no package eclipse available". I think this means that I am missing the correct repo, but I'm not sure which is the right one and don't know how to add it to my repo list for this version. yesterday installed a fresh OpenSuse 11.2. Since then the confirm buttons (OK / YES / ...) are not working, when clicking (mouse). An keyboard ENTER-press does work.
What is the problem? Is it an OpenSuse bug?

If I disable the online repos the packages are not found on the dvd.

I was wondering if there is any way to SSH from one computer to another and completely bypass a router or any other network infrastructure. The reason I ask is because my robot ( same one in this post ) often needs to change which wireless network it automatically connects to, however it is getting annoying to have to drag out a monitor and plug it in along with a keyboard and mouse every time this needs to happen. Instead I'd much rather just plug my laptop into the other computer, SSH in and change the network myself.
So I thought I would ask you kind people if this is possible. The robot's computer has unused ethernet and USB ports, and I'd like to use those if at all possible (and with linux, anything is possible! -- sorta). I thought about doing something with ad-hoc, but this would limit my range (in infrastructure mode I can control the thing anywhere there is internet), and is to be avoided.

My problem is, that several applications (eg. a cd cataloguer) expecting to find the cd at /media/cdrom0, or something similar. Is it possible to fix it?
