i am getting enjoyed openSUSE 11.3 but i got some problem on installing some applications like nano, pico and i couldn't update the system in CLI and/or GUI ()YaSt software update), i am feeling all the problems are related with the repository, and i have tried to refresh, add and edit repositories still i can perform such actions, i am the supper user (root).

If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.and therefore i am unable to perform many tasks.this is a clean install of 9.10 on a brand new laptop

When i want to use the update manager and try to check for update and I want to upgrade my 10.04 to 10.10.Every time i click to check ... it gave me in the end this message "couldn't download all repository indexes"with alot of errors in the box.I tried to use different server, all gave me the same thing. I don't know why !!before my laptop was just fine, but i didn't use it for nearly a month. and now the update manger not working..

couldn't update ICEauthority/home/name/ICEaithority.
Now I don't have to login i.e. enter my password. It just goes to a black screen and I get this error, which I close out and than I am logged into my desktop which seems to be fine.
The systems says that it cannot automatically update, so I have to do an Auo�tomatically update. Error details shows:

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a problem. When I start Yast, and it tries to download the update repository, there is a checksum error. The problem is, that this error is always there, it occured about 2 weeks ago and never disappeared. When I change the update repository to a specific one, I chose a german one, there is still that checksum error. If I say yast I want to still use the repository with the error, there comes another checksum error, if i say i dont care about that one either, it says

I cannot download the timezone RPM(and other RPM's) from several repositories(I haven't found ANY that will allow me to DL the timezone RPM's and I have checked 8 so far!) This breaks the update as it will stall on any of the undownloadable(new word for O.E.D. undownloadable) RPM's

This is probably not the best question i posted on a forum, but i want to make sure i got something right on the live-upgrade page (SDB:System upgrade - openSUSE)
It says: "Check if [URL] (replace 11.3 with your version)"
I have currently 11.3 installed and want to move to 11.4. Now when it says "replace 11.3 with your version" does that mean current or version that i am migrating to?
Worst thing is i have done this before (from 11.2 to 11.3, but am not sure how i interpreted it at that time)
YaST2 -> Package -> All Packages -> Update if Newer Available that YaST would install the most current in the highest priority repository. Given the example data below, I thought package A, version 01, which is currently installed from repository abc, would be updated to version 02 from repository xyz.
How do you get YaST to update packages from the highest priority repository?

I am trying to update four OpenSUSE 10.3 servers. This worked once on one server, but I have been unable to repeat that success. I use yast's Online Update to select repositories, but at the end of the repository refresh they keep coming back with 'No active update source is available. Exit Online Update now?' I get this error:

It appears to connect to remote repositories, but always fails. Is it realistic for me to expect to update 10.3, or is it a lost cause? I am not ready to jump to 11 yet, but I am required to update them. I am a newb, so I am not clear on the process. Are package versions locked in place for specific versions of OpenSUSE? If so, how can I find out what the final versions were for 10.3 so that I can at least tell my auditors that they are as up-to-date as they can be?
Is there any way to update firefox to the latest stable version, like 3.6.x through the repos on OpenSUSE 11.2?
And will it cause any problems if it can be done?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've noticed that Synaptic shows VLC 1.0.6 as the latest version of VLC. Except this is not true and 1.0.6 is way out of date. Version 1.0.6 does not even have a REPEAT icon button for the control panel. But newer versions do. Running Windows I can download VLC version 1.1.5 and make use of a REPEAT icon.Is there a way to update the repository? Or a way to tell Ubuntu developers that the VLC repository is way out of date and needs updating? I'm running 10.04 LTS--I thought this was supposed to deliver longterm updates?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm currently running a dual boot system of Win XP & Ubuntu 9.1. When first installed, about a month ago, all was working fine then I started running the update manager and for a while that was good also. Suddenly I started having problems, for example, I couldn't download new software. I kept getting a message about waiting on other software managers or something. (since the re-install that is no longer an issue). Next I was having problems installing updates for some reason. Apparently something got corrupted. When my wife tried to boot up the computer last night we got a message that had to do with the kernel and Ubuntu wouldn't load at all and I wound up re-installing the OS.
Obviously something got screwed up with some of the updates and now that I've got Ubuntu up and running again I'm afraid to download ANY updates at all. What is a person to do if you can't trust downloading updates from supposedly trusted sources? My attitude now is, if it ain't broke don't fix it.
I'm trying to install libboost-all and libboost-all-dev, but it says the package couldn't be found! Any idea how to install this via putty now? Also, how can I update my cmake to 2.6.x ? it's at 2.4.7

I have been through a number of attempted fixes via the thread 434687-software-repository-corruption but have not managed to resolve the issue. There is no one at the location that could repeat the "update" to hopefully fix the issue that way. I have a copy of the 11.2 DVD iso file on the remote computer. Is there some way that I can get the repository DB rebuilt or reinstalled so that I can then install other software and do Online Updates? Whatever I try has to be doable with the system running so that I can OpenVPN connect and issue commands remotely.

I upgrade fedora 10 to Fedora 11. Up-gradation is successful but after upgrade I cannot use fedora 10 repo. If I want install any fedora 10 package it gives error. Fedora 11 packages I can update fine.
