I am searching for some program for scanning documents to PDF file, I am using samsung SCX-4300. I tried XSane but the files I get are to big (1-3 Mb). Is there some other application for scanner I don't want to star my Windows just for scan some document.
View 2 RepliesHow can I change the mountpoint of my partition /media/documents to /documents.This is a partition of sdb and a fixed disk.The reason is that /media/ sometimes creates ghostdirectories while /Windows/C never does so, programmes writing/reading from this partition therfore don't work if a ghostdir_ exists.(BTW Suse is on sdb5 and sdb6. on sda is windows and used to be Ubuntu, the Suse-swap is sda5. Windows is out of use.)

Workflow:
1. scan in the book pages: coverpage (=1), page 3, page 5, page 7 .... n (At this point the book is upside down)
2. scan in the book pages turn the book and scan from the back to the front:

scanimage is cool. It would be great if there was a command line that one can configure to scan without X, and with rather quite some options to configure... convert to jpgcapable of finding -d snap:lib... whatever you plug and replug the scanner
View 12 Replies View RelatedWhenever, I successfully save a new document, the document's icon does not display in the KDE File Dialog until OpenOffice restarts. The document exists, because trying to do a "Save As" on it produces a dialog that states if one wants to overwrite the document. Also, trying to export a PDF twice has the same outcome.

I can access my windows my documentsmusic by mounting my windows drive and browsing to it. I can then playwatch my movies and pics in Ubuntu.But what I really want to be able to do is re-map the Ubunbu docs folder like so:
Ubuntu Pics = Windows My Documents pics.
Ubuntu Videos = Windows My Documents Videos.
I'm not very unix savy so I've been using Ubuntu tweak PersonalDefault Folder Locations setting and browsing to my Windows folders. But it doesn't work.I have managed to make a desktop 'short cut' and that works but I'd rather set the system wide default document folders.
I was trying to install Ubuntu on a USB stick. Here is my problem. So I went to the ubuntu site and downloaded Ubuntu. Now I have the .iso file on my computer but if I click on it, it asks me to burn but I want to save it on a USB stick. I did that with Universal USB-Installer. It goes smooth but when its finished its not the .iso file thats in it but just some documents and stuff... How do I get the .iso ? ( I want to use it with VirtualBox but you need the .iso for that...)
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have only just got my first netbook and when I first installed 11.2 on it it would detect local networks and ask if I wanted to use any of them. Since they belonged to other people and I use a wired connection at home, I declined. I then took my netbook on travels and tried to connect to freely available networks there, but to my surprise it no longer detected them. I tried to go through YAsT and see what needs to be changed but no matter what I tried the wireless option was never offered again.
I have now come back and decided to get to the bottom of this. Here is what I get from iwlist scan:lo Interface doesn't support scanning eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning.It is as if there has never been a wireless capability. Can anyone advise on what to do to fix this?
What's the best program for filesharing? And could I share from opensuse to w7 starter?

View 2 Replies View RelatedThis week I installed OpenSuse 11.2 on a brand new system and I've found that if I'm using the mouse while I'm scanning or sometimes just flipping back and forth with my usb kvm the keyboard and mouse become useless. If I'm scanning while I use the mouse, the system locks up. Here is what I'm seeing in /var/log/messages. After executing xsane:

My friend have a pc with only Windows. She does not want to format it for Ubuntu but wants to have a temporal partition (without deleting the original-rented Windows machine) for Ubuntu. How can incorporate the Ubuntu (no demo) without altering beyond her pc?
Second, How can she read files of Ubuntu (documents- ODT File (.odt)) in Windows? How can she print the doc's when the printer only works for Windows?
Third, how can be deleted the Ubuntu from her machine when she be able to return the pc to thye dealer?
I just realized that the "Documents" folder in my home directory has changed to a file which is a link to the /home/user/Documents and it is unaccessible. It does not (no longer) show in the "file browser" when I try to click it from "places" it says:

I try to clear 'recently used documents' within the kmenu nothing happens, i.e. the list is not cleared, until I reboot or log out and back in again. It's an old issue but thought I'd just ask if there are some fix for this. There is another small flaw on my system as well which is with refreshing the content displayed in a directory using dolphin (and possibly other file-viewers/apps). For instance, if I unpack a tar/rar/zip package I have to manually refresh dolphin for having it display the new extracted folder.

Every now and then, someone clicks "shutdown", "reboot", or "hibernate" and ruins my afternoon.
I've searched Google and these forums for ways to prevent a normal user from shutting down the system, but so far haven't had any luck in finding a solution. I have found instructions for just about every other Linux OS, except openSUSE though. These machines are running LXDE, but my preferred solution wouldn't depend on the particular desktop solution in use.

I have a small home-office network. On that network I have two linux computers, one is a client the other a server.
On the server I have NFS Server setup and mount some NFS exports on the client computer.
On the server I have the firewall on and here it becomes a little tricky.
Since both the server and the client connect to the router the interface (eth1) is theoretically both an internal & external zone.
The router is commercial grade and therefore has a good firewall on it which is also setup. Therefore the firewall on the server is really more of a backup than a necessity. But that's fine, and by having the server's firewall on 'fail2ban' is able to work which I like to have working so I don't want to just turn off the server firewall even though I have good security from the router.
However, when I turn on the server's firewall, the client computer cannot see the NFS server when scanning for server -- done by: clicking on "Choose" next to "NFS Server Hostname" when adding an NFS share in the NFS Client in YaST. Clearly something is being blocked even though I have both "NFS Client" and "NFS Server Service" allowed in the server firewall. The Firewall config. files for these are below.
The Firewall configuration is pretty much "out of the box". That is I have the services I need opened up for the external zone, the other zones are left at their default which means the internal zone, although not used (i.e.: attached to any interface), is completely open.
The perfect solution I guess would be to setup my client computer to connect through a different NIC (perhaps eth0), make that the "Internal Zone" and therefore allow all traffic through to it while still blocking the server from the external zone. However, I cannot make that physical change to my network for now so I am looking for an in between (non-perfect) solution.
In this case I am guessing that means opening up extra NFS ports to the external zone so I have full NFS functionality. I don't mind this because like I said, the router firewall is the main line of defense anyway.
So, given all of the above could someone tell me what I would need to additionally open up in the server firewall to make the NFS server detection work on the client while the firewall was on. Or, if you have a cleverer/better solution without me changing my physical network that would be great.
Hopefully I have written this in enough detail and clearly enough so that all the parameters are clear but if not, feel free to ask me what you like and I'll try to make it clear.

Current solution is to print docs one page at a time and all works well but this is more than inconvenient.Note my CUPS package is as downloaded from SUSE 11.4 repos and packman repos per standard software management tool. Note also that the version number label of 1.4.6.70.1 was transmitted using software management from SUSE and doesn't look like a proper version number based upon CUPS version sequence.I've posted this message on CUPS forum and received notice that this version is 3rd party software and not theirs and they have no responsibility. I assume then that the version is really from SUSE. That is why I am posting message at SUSE forum.I have found and made a change to increase ghostscript memory by pasting a line into the cups conf file. I am using an HP G60 laptop with a built in wireless NIC but am unable to get the wireless connection working. I have followed the advice in the sticky messages above and have included the information below. I know the wireless modem is working as I have got a spare USB wireless dongle running on the desktop (ironically - I can only get it working where it is not needed!!!). The same dongle will not work on the laptop. So it is a config thing and not a hardware issue On a trivial level, left clicking on the Network Manager icon shows the "enable wireless" greyed out. For instance, when I save the content of this link [url] on my hard-drive and open the file in Kate, Kwrite or Eclipse, all accentuated characters are displayed as black lozenge signs with a ? inside. What should I fix in my configuration to have those characters show correctly?
A related but maybe slightly different situation is the following: In Eclipse, when I use a French keyboard layout in Eclipse (using the shortcut Ctrl + Alt + K after setup in Configure Desktop > Regional & Language), I can type and display accentuated characters correctly. However, as soon as I spell check my document (I believe Eclipse use aspell for that), all the words containing the accentuated characters that I typed are shown as being wrong.
