has a small company with an opensuse linux computer and their ISP just told them that something's sending spam. The person who set this computer up is long since gone. They don't know anything about linux and have no idea what programs are on there.How would I figure out:
1. If there's an emailing program on there
2. Whether it's sending or capable of sending spam
3. Lock it down

View 4 Replies View RelatedI set up an exim4 server successfully and was able to send/receive mail! I fired off a couple emails to my friend and never got a response. Oh well, I thought, must be because my domain name might be considered spam.Flash forward to today and I get an email from the people who host my server, telling me that I have left my exim4 relay open. Looking through some of my users' email, I see a series of messages with the subject 'Message frozen':

My issue is that i'm trying to send emails with postfix and gmail as the mail relay,i'm trying to send emails to my self by sendmail -bv user@gmail.com
In the logs, i can understand that it been delivered to the destination,

When login in my gmail account i can't see nothing under the sent / inbox / spam folder.
it's seems like the mail are been sent.. but nothing is happening.

The main.cf file is the openSUSE default one (see below). Part of my problems seems to come from the reverse. I *could once* receive one test messsage to " ks3095514.kimsufi.com" (the default reverse/domain name) (below, commented out), but not for my own domain (dodin.org). Most of the time the only necessary lines are mydomain, myhostname, myorigin and mydestination, but this don't work anymore. New defaults??. local (from and to the server) mail works, root can send to jdd and I read it from home.

I have setup up an Opensuse as a simple we/application server.It handles requests for various things and will need to send out email on occasion for things like password reset requests, information / warnings etc. etc.This is a standard OPenSuse 11.x install with defaults so it comes with Postfix as the mta.I do not want a mail server I just want to send out via my clients mail server which is hosted exchange rackspace, which simply requires SMTP auth to do so.What would be the proper way to do this so ALL e-mail send from this machine, regardless of account like WWWRun or when logged in and sending from the command line has the same sender all the time.
View 6 Replies View RelatedOn my opensuse 11.4 box (although I assume the version is irrelevant), I'm trying to figure out how to do something with the mail command. We have multiple smtp relay servers and sometimes I have to test to verify that mail is bouncing off of them successfully. On my laptop, in my main.cf file for postfix, I've got the relay server listed. But to test multiple servers, I have to change the main.cf, restart postfix, send message, and then repeat for each test.
I'm trying to figure out a way to specify the smtp relay on the command line. I've been playing with the -S option which is supposed to allow variables and one of the variables in the man page is 'smtp'. I've tried several different syntaxes but nothing seems to work.
The closest I've come is:
mail -S smtp 10.1.0.63 -s "test" user@email.com < main.cf
That syntax doesn't give me an error but it still routes the message off the smtp server listed in main.cf which is not 10.1.0.63.
For about a week now I've been seeing mass attempts to relay through postfix and login to dovecot from the same 2 addresses, none are successful due to how postfix/dovecot are configured and I wouldn't be overly worried but my isp have picked up on it and are nagging at me
What ways do people go about just dropping connection attempts from offending addresses/ranges when stuff like that happens? An ideal thing would be something that detects repeated failed attempts from a host or range and subsequently ignore/ban them, perhaps for a specified length of time, something along the lines of denyhosts and fail2ban for ssh would be great Don't know if there's anything out there or just a plain tried and trusted method anyone might use for stuff like this, if not a hint on the most appropriate way to go about it 'manually' would do

We have a digital signage appliance built on SUSE 11.3 with a LAMP server that uses the flashplayer application to play a .swf file from localhost. It is a AOpen GP7A mini pc that has the nVidia drivers loaded. We have lots of customers that have been running the exact same system for over 6 months (we image the drive for each sale).
For some reason, my last customer is seeing the following problem shown below, and this linux configuration is way over my head. Everything else is working (local LAMP server is working, communicating with our production servers to get information works, etc). I have verified that it is screen 0 that is running (at least it shows with Ctrl-Alt-F7). I thought that it may have occurred because of updating the software with zypper up. I had the customer rebuild from the image being careful not to upgrade the software. The result was the same. The pc is a newer version compared to my bench pc, but there are multiple other customers running that same version just fine. So I am not sure if it is
The command is issued by a php script that is run in a root cron job. As I said, it works great on all other customer pc's including my bench system. I also tried to execute the command on a ssh terminal as the root user with the same result. I also upgraded my bench pc and it still worked properly.

A few years ago I started a family tree project on my old computer, but now I can't seem to find a program that will open it. The old project consists of a file structure like this:

Where the zed file contains 'family tree.txt'. Does anyone know what program produces this file structure when saving or how to open it?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install the drivers for the Advantech PCI 1761 relay card, and annoyingly, I have to compile them from the source, since Advantech doesn't offer preset drivers for any form of linux beside RedHat and Debian. I have two .ko files

the first one is required for all advantech cards, the second one is specific to my relay card. I installed the first module fine by using:
sudo insmod advdrv_core.ko
but when I do:
sudo insmod pci1761.ko
I get the following errors:

[14192.558236] pci1761: no symbol version for advdrv_unregister_driver
theses are actually only two, there are like 100 sets of unknown symbol errors. The strange thing is that the first .ko file,advdrv.ko, references the same symbols, yet it installed fine. What Gives? Any ideas? I really need this module to get installed. These drivers were updated March 10th, 2010.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a CentOS server, and am using Sendmail to relay for various domains. However, I also need to have users send their outgoing mail via this server. I want to have them enter a username and password in Outlook, Thunderbird, etc in their smtp server settings. I currently have this set up via an Exchange server, but I cannot get it to work with Sendmail. I know little about Sendmail, and have done all the config via Webmin, which has worked fine as far as relaying domains. But even though I have added the CentOS user account for the smtp relaying, the clients mail apps give an error saying relaying denied.
