When I am burning iso with k3b its slow, buffer is underrunning. Burning under root account is fine, no buffer underruns. I think this is permission problem....

View 2 Replies View RelatedIm getting very slow DVD burning. Quite often in Turbojet2 or using growisofs or whatever, Im getting 0.5x DVD burning speeds.
I set the burn speed to 12x on Turbojet, but it hovers from 0.5x to maybe bursts of 5x.
I will get maybe 9 minute burn times in Brasero for single DVDs but 15 to 25 minutes in Turbojet2 and longer using growisofs or other CLI burning when doing multiple DVDs.
Im running 11.04 on a box w/ SATA drives, SATA DVD-RW's 12gb of Ram an Intel I-5 4 core processor

Just switched from a pata dvd burner to a brand new sata dvd burner. I cannot believe how slow it is! My write speeds in any program I use tops out at .9 and slows dramatically down to .3 alot.

I use Brasero 2.32.0 to burn DVD's and the max speed I reach writing on my 16x DVD's is 2.5x (more or less).

I when I burn a dvdrw with K3B, it remains at 1x speed even tough I chose the maximum speed in the dialog(don't know whether this is also the case with dvd-r or cdr since i don't have any with me at the moment). So, I guess there is something wrong. I read that it could have something to do with DMA, Or could it be something else?

Segmentation fault I know what segmentation fault is, but the rest is a mystery to me. This is on OpenSuse 11.3, 64bit.
I get it from some games I installed for the kids to play, but obviously they can't until I've managed to fix that. It happens in Ppracer and Super Maryo Chronicles, and the games worked fine in 11.2. Same graphics card too, and the same xorg.conf file. DRI is enabled in that config-file.
The gfx-card works fine otherwise, and it's an Intel G33 GPU. I do get some lock-ups now and then, but I'm not sure if it's the gfx-card/driver or something else.

My Current / Old box (WinXP)can burn 2.9GB of data over a LAN from a mapped drive using Nero in 7 minutes and maintain file & directory names as they are complete with upper and lower characters, spaces between words and special characters without shortening file / directory names out of the box. My new box (SuSE 11.2) was initially incapable of burning anything, ?Access Denied? I added the user to the cdrom group this allowed the burning of data but the process changed file and directory names. It changed all letters to capitols, replaced blank spaces and special characters with underscores. I still can?t burn ISO files, ?Access Denied?. The time it took to burn the 2.9GB of data on the hard drive of the SuSE install was sort of acceptable but a full 5 to 6 minutes longer and I was forced to shorten file names too.
I changed a setting to allow the full ascii character set hoping this would preserve file and directory names as they are during the burn process. I changed a setting to allow long file names too. I now have another problem, on starting the burn process and after a minute'sh K3B displayed the fact that it was going to take over 1 ? hours to finish! Yikes. After an hour it was going to take a further 2hrs and 10mins. This didn't include read varify. I aborted the burn process, this can?t be correct. I placed the LG drive in my old box, burn process took a second or two less than 7mins to complete using the same data over the same LAN. I've tested the drive for hardware errors, the drive is perfect. Am i missing something, failing to do something or doing things wrong. Is the optical drive or some other component incompatible in some way.
I'll be burning many gigabytes of data on a daily basis and i'm hoping to be able to burn a full DVD disc of mixed data types in less than 10mins whilst preserving the full ascii character set, file & directory names inc special characters and blank spaces. I still need to resolve my "access denied" problem when trying to burn ISO files too.
I was able to burn a DVD-RW with K3B (after changing "sudo chmod 4755 /usr/bin/wodim") but when I try to burn to a CD-R it fails after the opc check. I tried changing the write-speed to 8X (since that's the max for this CD-R) but it still fails.

Today i tried to burn a dvd but i failed. When i was adding the folders, brasero poped up a message saying that it need to rename some files to make them windows compatible,i accepted the change and proceed. Everything was looking good, but qhen it tried to burn, brasero said it cannot burn the image and failed. Asked if i want to save the log file and i did it, but it has no info!
I tried diferent combinations to burn the dvd (removing the files that need to be renamed, even i tried to burn the files to a iso image) and alwas fail exactly with te same error in the same step.I instaled the gstreamer packages from packman and all looks good.Any idea whats going on? I seem to be having a problem with burning CDs. Whenever I launch k3b, it says 'No optical drive found.' However, When I insert a CD while in KDE, it properly mounts it. What do I do? It seems like udev/hal is working fine. Also, I can't get KDE to recognize any inserted flash drive or external usb storage device inserted on demand.

Before you burn your CD/DVD images, you should check the files for errors. Two files named *.iso.md5 and *.iso.sha1 are available. These files contains hashes for each ISO image that is available from that download location. The relevant line would look like the following:
8abac6680ecc152f103006b02f9ff67f some.iso
To be sure that download did not contain any errors, you should create this number using MS5 or SHA1 algorithm for your own ISO image.

On Linux, run one of the command,:
md5sum some.iso
sha1sum some.iso
If there is any difference between the output of the checksum command and the above number, the download is broken and should be repeated.'

I'm trying to install OpenSuse 11.2 from iso image without burning it in a DVD.. because I don't have a CD or DVD drive.I'm using Windows Vista.firstly I mounted the dvd image .. but thought that was wrong because when rebooting instillation won't find the image.. is that true?so, I extracted it and I opened openSUSE11_2_ LOCAL.exe. and then reboot.. got two choices (Vista or install OpenSuse) and selected install OpenSuse but my screen went "out of range" !!

I've noticed tracker-store burning CPU and thrashing disk when I login to a KDE session. I'm tempted to disable it by modifying /etc/xdg/autostart/tracker-store.desktop. But before I do that, what added value does it bring to the party? It seems like it's mainly involved with desktop indexing, which I never use (does anyone?).
View 4 Replies View RelatedI downloaded the DVD ISO version of OpenSuSe version 11.2 64bit from openSUSE. I checked the iso file checksum after downloading and it was correct. However after burning to DVD i booted from the disc and started the install. After getting passed the initial settings and it starts to extract all of the packages each file fails the checksum and will not install. I tried downloading again on a different computer and burning again using UltraISO using the Disc-At-Once method, again checking the ISO file's checksum before burning.
It still gives the same errors. So i loaded windows and started the windows based install and my anti-virus (Kaspersky) says the disc is infected with a trojan. How can the disc be infected when the ISO file's checksum is correct?. The computer that i am using to burn the disc is virus free according to Kaspersky and Norton Technician Toolkit.
I've been trying to burn Suse 11.2 to a DVD now for a couple of days but I keep running into trouble. When verifying a disk after burning Suse on it it keeps giving me errors. I've tried Nero and ImgBurn, different burners, different ISOs, different burning speeds (downloaded via torrent and http) but it keeps giving me the verification error.
The only thing I haven't tried is a different brand of DVDs but until now I've never had any problems with this brand.
i cant seem to load mp3s into the stock burning program - "Brasero". i get this error message when i drop an mp3 into the program: "xxx.mp3" is not suitable for audio or video media.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an 1TB hard drive, half of it for Windows XP SP3, another half for OpenSUSE 11.4. After installing OpenSUSE, it didn't take me much time to notice that there was something wrong with KDE: sometimes it loaded quite fast, as expected, but most of the time I'd have to wait around 1 minute in that loading screen. Then I updated the kernel, as well as KDE itself, but that didn't solve the problem.
After that I tried to start the system using Enlightnment, and it was lightning fast compared to KDE, however, I didn't quite like its interface, and for some reason GNOME refused to start. All that was too frustrating to me, so I gave up and have been using Windows for the last few weeks. Got sick of it now and here I am on OpenSUSE again. Oh, it feels sooo much better! BUT, I'm still with the same problem.
My specs are as follow:
Motherboard: Gigabyte MA78GM-S2H (with updated BIOS, version F11)
Processor: AMD Phenom X3 8450
Memory: 2GB
Videocard: Nvidia Geforce 8500GT (using NVIDIA proprietary drivers)
OpenSUSE 11.4
KDE 4.6.0
Did I forget anything important?
Ps.: I didn't have these problems with Mandriva 2010.2, which, if I'm correct, used the same KDE version.
Does anyone know how to revert network speeds to those attained with openSUSE11.2-64? On openSUSE11.2-64 the reported network download speed was,
max : 420 kB/s
ave : ~ 200 kB/s
After upgrade to openSUSE 11.3-64 the figures dropped to about 25% of the previous values. After upgrade to KDE 4.5 and plasmoid-networkmanagement the initial values did not change but the average value dropped after about 30 seconds to ~ 15 kB/s. Approach so far:
1. The motherboard's (A780GM-LE) build in LAN (Realtek RLT8111DL) was originally detected by openSUSE 11.3 as the Realtek RLT8169 and kernel module r8169 installed. This was replaced by the latest module r8168-8.019.00 from Realtek.
2. After kernel update to Linux 2.6.34.4-0.1-desktop x86_64 the plasmoid-networkmanagement was replace by NetworkManager-kde4. This improved flow with,
max : 140 kB/s
ave : ~ 80 kB/s
I'm installing opensuse 11.2 x64 on my machine.I have win7 installation so I'm making it dual boot.The problem is that the installation is extremely slow. I've started it 20 min ago and it is still at 3% in preparing disks part of the setup.The installation is standard (no shrinking or etc) - I'm installing it on a separate empty partition on my raid volume.

It'll often spin down and it often takes 5-10 seconds to spin back up in order to keep reading files. This is really terrible for video playback, as it'll often completely hang until the drive spins back up. Is there a way that I can tell VLC to set a larger buffer to at least give me more buffer into the future so the drive will have time to spin up when the buffer runs out?

View 7 Replies View RelatedIssue: My wife can type about 70wpm. And uses the computer to write short stories. She has been bitten before and as a results saves often. In fact she CTRL+S (saves) at the end of most sentences and every paragraph out of habit. In MS Word she could keep typing while the computer saved, and once MS Word was done saving it would drop all the buffered text onto the page. OpenOffice3.2 doesn't work this way. She has discovered that while it is saving and she is still typing the text doesn't go into the buffer and she looses the text she has typed. She is reporting to me that she looses a couple of words since the saving takes about 1-3 seconds.
My thoughts before I get home tonight: I was thinking of whipping out the video camera and showing everyone.Switch to LibreOfficeSee if it happens in other applications, maybe plop her down in gedit and see what happens, it could be an when writing to HDD keyboard buffer doesn't work.
