Debian Configuration :: USB Wifi Adapter Frequently Disconnecting

May 20, 2015

Using a USB ISO, I recently installed Debian 8.0 Jessie (64-bit, Xfce DE) to a new computer. I usually lose my Wifi connection after 1-3 minutes when donwloading/uploading at around max. speed 4 Mbps/512 kbps. Sometimes it will last 15+ minutes.

When lightly browsing it can usually stay connected for 15-30 minutes. I have to disable and enable Wifi using NetworkManager to connect again. If I remember correctly, there were problems with the Wifi connection even during the installation of Debian.

This Wifi USB adapter works fine on my old computer with Debian 7.7 (32-bit). No problems with the Wifi connection yesterday on my old computer during 10+ hours of activity.

This Wifi adapter also works fine on this new computer when I boot from a live USB (Rescatux 0.30.2) downloading and uploading at max. speed for 1+ hour.

I already tried some suggestions I found online, but they didn't work:

* changing Wifi channels between 1, 6, 11 in my router settings
* changing WPA-WPA2 to WPA2 in my router settings
* ignore IPv6 in NetworkManager
* change probe_wait_ms from 500 ms to higher value by adding Code: Select alloptions mac80211  probe_wait_ms=1000 or Code: Select alloptions mac80211  probe_wait_ms=3000 to /etc/modprobe.d/mac80211.conf and rebooting
* disable Power Management for Wifi adapter (not supported)
* ...

I can also post the output of commands from Rescatux or my old computer if needed.

Output of commands on Debian 8.0 64-bit (I edited out some info, MAC, ...; not sure if that is important):

Code: Select alluname -a

Linux d8lnx 3.16.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.16.7-ckt9-2 (2015-04-13) x86_64 GNU/Linux
Code: Select alldmesg

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Wireless On Compaq Presario R3000 Doesn't Work

Nov 8, 2010

Sorry for repeating the same old complaint but there doesn't seem to be a common fix: Wireless does not work on my Presario R3000 although SUSE 11.x lists the hardware in the Hardware Information list and the hardware is turned on. Network Manager doesn't display any wireless networks in SUSE while Win 7 can see 4 of them on the same machine. Ubuntu has no problem either

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Wireless Not Working Compaq 6910p Intel 4965 AG Or AGN?

Feb 17, 2011

I am running openSUSE 11.3 updated with all the latest patches and I cannot connect to my wireless router. I am running Linux Mint 10 on the same type of notebook HP Compaq 6910p and it worked right after the install. If I take off the security WPA & WPA2 Personal I can connect. lspci -v | less shows this for my wireless card.

10:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN [Kedron] Network Connection (rev 61)
Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device 1000
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 29
Memory at e4000000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=8K]

[code]....

I am using the same settings for both notebooks just can't figure out why openSUSE 11.3 won't connect. I get the prompt to key in my password, I've even checked the box to show password to make sure I was keying it in correctly. Everything was good but it just goes right back to the password prompt after it fails trying to connect.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Wireless Not Working For Compaq Presario

Apr 29, 2011

I just finished putting openSUSE 11.4 on my Compaq Presario V5000. I have been trying for hours to find the answer of how to get my wireless card to work. I can't connect to my router wirelessly and the on/off button for the wireless mode does not light up when pressed.

As far as I can tell from what I have already tried, I have a broadcoamm wireless card. It is a bm4318. I have b43-fwcutter installed and I have tried updating my firmware through the terminal. I have also used 'sudo /usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware'. It appeared successful, but the laptop still cannot make a wireless connection.

OpenSUSE Network :: WiFi Adapter Does Not Seem To Be Recognized

Aug 11, 2011

I Have an HP Pavilion G6. I recently installed openSUSE after having no luck with another linux distribution. I was told openSUSE is more compatible with laptops, so I figured I'd give it a try. I am now facing the same problem I had been facing w/ the other distribution (Ubuntu). My Network Adapter doesn't seem to be recognized by any linux operating systems. It is a Ralink 802.11b/g/n WiFi adapter. When I open the "network" tab, my home wifi is not listed, nor are any around me. In fact, I can't even open the "wireless" tab.

I've installed any recent drivers for my adapter, and I went to extensive lengths to try to solve the issue on my previous linux distribution. I don't know what output to give you from the terminal, nor do I really know any commands to look for anything. On a side note, I had been messing with my touchpad application, trying to set my preferences. I check the boxes for horiz. and vertic. scrolling with two fingers, and apply. They don't work. I check the boxes for using two finger tap to do something, and three finger tap to do something else.

Fedora Installation :: Wireless Network Configuration - B43 Adapter Grayed Out

May 9, 2009

I am doing network config of my laptop. I'm new to Fedora, so I'm not sure how it goes ...
I have an Ethernet device (eth0) and a wireless device, wlan0
Status in system->administration->network:
Tab devices:
eth0 : active
wlan0: inactive
Tab Hardware:
eth0: system
wlan0: configured (description: b43)

Double clicking on the wlan0 line gets you to Network Adapters Configuration, where adapter b43 grayed out) is associated with device wlan0. So far, so good (I did all the fwcutter stuff, so I assume this is the result). When I installed the system (from installcd, then update, then install broadcom-wl, ...) I configured it to be started up with network manager, automatically on startup. I managed to get it working exactly once in that session.

Problem is, it doesn't start up and the wireless is not even visible when you click the network manager icon. For that matter, eth0 does not start automatically either, but at least there is a button to start it in network manager. Coming back to the tab devices, clicking on wlan0 allows you to click on the activate button ... but there it says: Cannot activate network device wlan0! b43 device wlan0 does not seem to be present.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: USB Wifi Adapter Works When Connected Directly But It Doesn't With Cable

Jun 4, 2010

I am using this usb wifi adapter, it uses zd1211rw and it works fine if I connect it directly to the usb port, but if I add a cable (around 5mts) between the usb port and the usb plug, the device doesn't appear (I used iwconfig to check). The green light on the wifi adapter turns on but it doesn't blink like it does when connecting it directly without the cable. What could be happening?

I use the same cable + usb wifi adapter in windows, and it works fine, I can scan and connect without problems. When I use the cable, lsusb doesn't show the device neither, it does when connecting the adapter directly.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Compaq CQ60 210TU Wireless Enable/Disable Button Not Working?

May 26, 2009

I installed SLED 11 (and openSuse 11.1 as well) but the wireless button(WIFI ON/OFF) which is next to power button of my laptop does not work. It worked in vista (formatted the HD and installed SLED 11 as soon as I bought the notebook ) the wireless driver is Ath5k. The button should actually light up the LED and if the Wireless card is active LED should be BLUE, and ORANGE if the wireless is disabled.. Now its always ORANGE!

I tried to capture the hardware address of the LED but it was a failure! (previously I configured Touchpad ON/OFF switch by myself writing a small script after retrieving values from dmesg)...

So the main issue I have is WIFI On/Off switch (and LED) doesn't work well...

OpenSUSE Wireless :: 11.2 Recognizing My Broadcom Adapter ?

Dec 14, 2009

I'm having some issues with openSUSE 11.2 recognizing my Broadcom adapter. Following the instructions in the two stickied topics, I can find the adapter both under YaST's Hardware Summary and using the console command /sbin/lspci. I cannot, however, find it with /sbin/lspci -n, and the boot log (viewed with dmesg | less) makes no mention of it either.

Do I need to turn it on or something? This is a dual boot machine, and it works fine under Windows, so I don't think there's a hardware failure at play here.
