OpenSUSE :: Swapping Between Primary And Secondary Language?

How do you swap between primary and secondary languages for the keyboard (using GUI not terminal codes since this is for someone else who is a beginner at computing)? I installed the secondary language in the "language" section of yast, but can't see any options for swapping on the fly. Lets say they do 99% of stuff in english, but get an email they want to respond to in the secondary language or want to write a text document using the secondary language, is there a way to switch back and forth on the fly?

OpenSUSE :: Apps Opening On Secondary Monitor Not The Primary Screen

I have openSUSE 11.2 KDE with NVIDIA drivers. I have a TV on the left and a monitor on the right. In the Nvidia drivers this has also been setup as stated. The TV is on position 0:0 and the monitor is in position 1920:0. The monitor has been ticked in the drivers as the primary screen.

My problem is that all application open on the secondary screen and not the primary screen (monitor) as I expect. How to the OS/drivers that will ensure that application always open on the monitor situated on the right are welcome.

Ubuntu Installation :: Moving HD From Secondary To Primary?

Currently I am running Ubuntu 9.10 on an older P4 system with EIDE harddrives. My primary HD has a WinXP installation and GRUB. Ubuntu is installed on the secondary HD.

I am happy enough running Ubuntu that I would like to remove my WinXP disk, move the disk with Ubuntu on it to be the primary boot drive, and then install a new drive as the secondary.

However when I tried to simply move the drive with Ubuntu on it from the secondary to the primary EIDE position the system would not boot. I assume that this is because there is no boot loader currently on that drive.

how do I put GRUB on the Ubuntu drive so that it can become the boot drive? Or is there some other way to accomplish what I am after without having to reinstall Ubuntu?

I have an Ubuntu 9.10 machine with three ethernet interfaces, eth0, eth1 and eth2. eth2 is connected to a private network. eth0 and eth2 are connected to two different LANs. Either one will provide access to the internet. All three networks have DHCP servers. Using Ubuntu's the default settings (And Gnome), when I boot up all the interfaces are active and my system gets three IP addresses. However any attempt to access the internet results in connection timeouts and other weirdness.

I suspect that traffic is going out on one NIC (like eth0) and coming back in on another (like eth1). I'm not sure what's going on. The only way I can access the internet at the moment is to bring two of the devices down with ifdown. How can I configure eth0 as my primary interface so all trafic goes out by default on that interface, while keeping the other two active? Also, I want to make sure Avahi broadcasts properly on all three IPs so that the computers on the LAN of eth1 can still connect to myHostname.local...

I want the 172.16.30.2 network to be the primary one and the 10.1.0.0 network to be the secondary one. My nameservers are also incorrect. It seems like Ubuntu is bringing the networks up in order, eth0, then 1, then 2, and the DHCP information from eth1 is overriding eth0, and eth2 is overriding eth1. How can I reverse this so the DHCP information from eth0 is the "master"? This seems to be an issue with Gnome's NetworkManager.

I'm pensioning off my 10-years-old home server and replacing it with an Ubuntu 10.04 box. The two storage devices are a Western Digital Caviar Green 2.0TB HD and an Intel X25-M 34nm Gen 2 80GB SATA II 2.5inch SSD (the box has 8GB RAM and an i5 750, if it matters).

I don't care much about boot times (since I don't plan to reboot all that often;-); the main frequent, performance-demanding task will be (re)building large open source C or C++ software packages from sources (as an open source contributor, I do that often).

So, I thought I'd keep the SSD as the secondary drive and the HD as the primary one, using the SSD mostly for the files that can otherwise demand a lot of seeking (esp. in a parallel make).

However, the friendly vendor (perhaps more experienced in Windows systems than in Linux ones) thinks the "normal" way to configure the machine would be with the SSD as the primary drive. I'm pretty rusty on configuring and tuning systems, so, I thought I'd better double check on SuperUser.

We have a four socket amd machine, running barcelona processors, with 64gb ram.The system runs for extended periods just fine when the system is running up to or below the 64gb memory limit. A typical load on the machine has short periods where the machine uses heavy amounts of swap space (30+ Gb). We have a swap partition of around 96Gb. When we push the machine into heavy swapping, the machine will fail within 24hrs. Has anyone experienced this problem and is there a solution other than buying more physical memory? Or am I wrong and maybe the physical memory is the issue? I thought maybe it was the memory itself, and after stripping the memory down, I get the same problem...failure upon heavy swapping

I have some music in another language, but when I open the songs in Banshee, their song names just come up as weird characters (like μ).I went to [System --> Administration --> Language Support] and installed support for that language, but the songs still come up like μ. (But in Nautilus, their proper names show).

I know the solution is to change my whole system language to that language, but I don't want to do that, as I am not very fluent in it. Is there any way to enable support for that language while keeping English as the language used to display my desktop?

User B needs to use Chinese and would like the full system in Chinese. User C needs to use Thai and Chinese. They would prefer their menus to be in Thai and can use iBus for Chinese entry. While installing Ubuntu 10.10 I chose the wrong language for my keyboard. I tried to fix this in keyboard preferences and it seemed to work. The correct one I need is USA (and don't know exactly the difference between USA and USA alternative international). But every time I boot my laptop I get the old language back (Dutch) while USA is above the others in my preferences.

i recently got a french msi wind U100x running on linux suse enterprise 10 sp1. (i am french and wanted a light netbook with french keyboard)i am totally new to linux and i believe that msi wind is not helping.because i am more used to english for settings, i set the main language to english, but it seems that it automatically reconfigures my keyboard mapping to english as well, so that azerty becomes qwerty.i reset it back to french, so now my keyboard is french, but so is the system.is there a way to differentiate keyboard from main user setting language?

I have installed opensuse 11.3 by DVD (bad ; maybe bad DVD burner HW; tried several times); XKDE live CD (recognized Primary HDD as SDA); and now KDE live CD; originally recognized as SDA; now reinstalled 3 times and always SDB. And it will not boot to anything; and cannot find grub menu list. I do have 2 HDDs, but secondary is just used for personal file storage.

I installed openSUSE 11.3 on my Dell studio laptop with Mobility Radeon HD 4500 graphics card and everything worked straight out of the box.

Now.. I am connecting my tv through HDMI cable as second monitor. Basically I just want to play movies on my tv while still having the laptop screen free to work. This also works, I just plugged it in and I had two screens.

My problem is that my tv is the primary monitor so basically my laptop background (and all the buttons that go with it) moves to the tv and my laptop background is just a background. See attached image at the bottom of this post(Laptop on the left and tv on the right).

This is exactly what I want but the other way around. I can't seem to change this in System Settings/Display. Is there a file somewhere I can change this?

OpenSUSE :: Keyboard Randomly Changes Language And Layout?

I installed open suse 11.2 yesterday stock Education edition DVD.

I changed the keyboard because it was generating garbage instead of english chars. (everything was stock from the CD)

The replacement kb is a newer one (I favor the old kb's).

eventually the language and layout of the keyboard changes - usually to Arabic or some Eastern alphabet.

I was really starting to like open suse, but if this persists it is unusable.

Something is misbehaving - any Ideas would be appreciated.

I'm running the default desktop env - gnome.
