View 9 RepliesLike many others I recently upgraded to 10.04. So far it's generally an *excellent* upgrade. Very promising LTS release. However, mouse clicks are suddenly not behaving as expected in applications (including system config apps). In these, I must ctrl-click to get proper left and right click behavior. Strangely, on both the top panel and on the awn dock, clicks behave as they should. One final note, this behavior was not immediately present after the 10.04 installation. It started the day after the 10.04 release. Currently in the process of checking recent installs to see if anything would affect this.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter a reboot the mouse pointer suddenly started to act very strange...For example horizontal movements move the pointer verically and moving it to the left also scolls down... left click and right click still works, but not the scroll wheel.I have not done any changes related to X (X11R7).The mouse is a wireless usb logitech mouse, with this "nano reciever"-thing. View 3 Replies View RelatedSuddenly, today my mouse seems to have a mind of it's own. For no reason, it's suddenly jumping and scrolling all over the desktop in rapid fashion and apparently left-clicking at will. Reboot does not solve the problem, although it became less after the reboot.

Okay, dug through the drawers and found a Logitech usb optical mouse. Giving that a try as it seems to me that the mouse may be shot.
My keyboard has suddenly stopped working in Gnome (Ubuntu 10.4 LTS, Toshiba satellite laptop, P300). It works fine to logon, and with KDE.
The last thing I did before it stopped working was to hold down a shift key for too long, while I was thinking about what I wanted to do. The 'sticky keys' prompt popped up, which I killed. After that the keyboard has died - in *all* applications (e.g. gedit, terminal etc.)
The mouse still works. If I logout of Gnome, it comes alive again to type in the logon password. I had a look in messages, but without any enlightenment.
I run a set scripts running under cron which make tar backups to an external
USB HDD.
Wednesday (7 July) night backup 22GiB took about 15min
Thursday (8 July) night backup 22GiB took 5hours 44min :-o
Nothing changed between these runs, the machine wasn't rebooted, the USB
device wasn't unmounted and remounted.
This has been a basic speed change - everything prior to 7 July runs at a
similar speed and everything since then is dead slow.
I've googled around and come up with things like ...
* Make sure the device is mounted async - I believe it is (options:
rw,defaults) but it wasn't remounted in between.
* Make sure that ehc1_hcd is loaded before uhc1_hcd - the entry in
/etc/modprobe.conf looks like it is and anyway there wasn't a reboot
between.
I dread to think how long a full
backup is going to take so I could definitely do with getting back to the
sort of speeds I used to get.

I've removed, then reinstalled.. no improvement (program worked great until about two days ago. Only change had been a routine update that included a kernel update to 2.6.31.8-0.1-default x86-64)
Today I changed my home router's security setting from WPA to WPA2, and my openSUSE 11.4 Tumbleweed system's network stopped working.It is very strange, because it can connect to the wireless no problem and it gets ip address and everything, but I cannot access any websites. I tried to revert the router setting back to WPA, but still the same.Funny thing is I can actually open the router admin page.
Even I plugged the wired lan cable to my laptop, but still the same. It connects, but no internet.Where should I look? My the other laptop with openSUSE 11.4 connects to the same router without any problem.
when i tried to watch a videos video today, i noticed that i suddenly didn't have sound anymore just yesterday, it still worked fine. changing the video volume didn't do anything, so i looked at the mixer icon in the taskbar - and noticed to my surprise that it was suddenly set to mute, without me ever having touched it!
i set it back to full volume, but still nothing. i then tried to play ordinary videos in nmy video layer, but also there - no sound! so it's not limited to flash videos. the sound test in yast doesn't play any sound, either, it produced just a very short popping sound, that's all. i tried turning off pulse audio there, but that didn't change anything, so i turned it on again (i use pulse audio for sound).
next, i tried the kde control panel, but got no test sound either, just again the very short popping sound on htting the test button and nothing else. i've even tried switching the preference from xine (which i normally use) to gstreamer, but that didn't change anything either. then i did a reboot and tried things again, but no change. finally, i checked my headphones. they were plugged in properly, and plugging them out and back in again didn't do anything either.
so i'm out of ideas what i could still try. sound hardware is realtek hd onboard sound, which is identified as "hda ati sb alc889a analog". kde is 4.4 rc3, which i've been using already since over a week without problems, so i doubt that's the problem.
openSUSE 11.2 with KDE desktop, I have been using vlc to play .flv files without any difficulty or problems for months but it has suddenly stopped giving me any image on screen. The video is "running" according to progress bar and there is sound but just a black screen. Trouble is I cannot pin this down to any particular update so I am asking if anybody else has had this happen? I have run 1 click install multimedia and there were a few files updated but still no picture. I shall have to go through all the multimedia chacks and no time right now.

All of a sudden, Dolphin is identifying .xls files as "OLE2 compound document storage (application/x-ole-storage)." I searched for xls in Configure desktop, file associations and it still appears as application-vnd.ms-excel. It does not appear as x-ole-storage.
Other spreadsheets (ods, xlsx) are still identified correctly and open automatically in the proper program. This is a new behavior, and I'm assuming it has to do with something I updated in Yast. I'm using KDE 4.6.2 under 11.4.
As a workaround, I added the .xls extension to the file association for x-ole-storage, which allows Dolphin to open the file automatically, but it still asks me to install software to handle the file type. I answer no and then the file opens in Libre Office.
Before adding .xls to the file association, I tried to get this to happen automatically by going through the open with other application menu and checking always use this application. This had no effect.
suddenly it stop detecting a memorystick being plugged in. I connect but nothing happens. At this time i can plug in any memorystick and it want detect it. Then i need to reboot to get it to work and then after avail it stop working again. I also have problems with unmounting (Safely remove device) in the GUI-tool. It works in terminal with "umount". In Dolphin i get error about problem accessing HAL or something like that. This problem is resisting even after reboot. Is there a bug?

At first, all seemed normal on the gnome-terminal except for the scroll bar but my theme settings don't seem to have changed. I guess that's because, they haven't as I can see in programs like iceweasel where all is normal.I am using testing/wheezy. I tried removing /home/deniz/.gconf/apps/gnome-terminal and restarting my computer but that did not work. Did an update screw things up or what? How do I bring things back to normal?

I have a older dell inspiron laptop running xubuntu 9.10. It has run fine for quite a while. I recently hooked it up to my plasma tv to watch some some movies and now it crashes when I try to log in. The process I used to hook it to the TV was: connect VGA cable then boot into the external monitor, then shutdown. I have done this in the past with other laptops and it always went back to normal when I boot without the VGA cord attached.
What happens now is I try to log in then the screen flashes and sends me back to the login screen. One more thing to add, I didn't have to use the login screen prior to this problem, it was set for auto-login.How can I fix this? I can get to the terminal via CTRL + F2 and via SSH.
I actually wanted to create partitions on my usbstick, but instead I fdisked new partitions onto my boot + datadrive. It is still running. Is there a chance I can recover that?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI plugged in a second monitor to my new Meerkat installation and xorg stopped working.
When I took the monitor away it still wouldn't work, so I tried entering with safe graphics and that wouldn't work.
I uninstalled xorg and reinstalled and ran the dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg but still no luck.
I have tried reverting the vesa driver but it still won't work. The screen flashes like it's trying but just gives up.
I don't know what to do now except reinstall the partition.
This hasn't happened to me before, but I develop for the Android platform and (perhaps needless to say) I really need to be able to debug on a real device. On past installs, my device was recognized automatically and debugging was as easy as checking "debug" in the Android's settings, but now (after updating to Maverick from Lucid) the phone registers with adb as?It mentions some necessary tasks for set-up on Ubuntu, but only mentions this process for Dapper/Gutsy/Hardy. Is there any personal experience out there that can confirm that this works and/or is necessary on Maverick?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a HP ZE2000 laptop with an ATI XPress 200M graphics card that worked great with 10.04, but when I upgraded to the 11.04 the screen is now all screwed up and I cannot figure out what happened. I even downloaded the .iso and booted up on the LiveCD and it is still screwed up. I am assuming something is screwed up in the graphics setting, but how do you change it if you cannot see it?
