OpenSUSE Hardware :: Touchpad And Trackpoint Suddenly Stop Working
May 11, 2010
when starting my Latitude D830 from suspend to ram it was suddenly missing touchpad and trackpoint support. I restartet and updated but still, both devices aren't even listed in yast anymore. Keyboard and bluetooth mouse work fine, though.
Running synclient TouchpadOff=0 says Couldn't find synaptics properties. No synaptics driver loaded?. Now, i googled a bit and all i could find was some tinkering with the xorg.conf, what is especially ugly, since suse doesn't normally use one anymore. Plus, xorg.conf gives me flashbacks of allnighters trying to fix me system again

I'm running a Thinkpad Yoga, and in what I suspect was an Xorg update, my TrackPoint and touchpad are disabled, and Xorg does not show the synaptics driver being loaded.
Synclient produces a "Couldn't find synaptics properties. No synaptics driver loaded?"
I have tried rebuilding both xorg and xserver-xorg-input-synaptics to no avail.

Using Gnome and openSUSE 11.2 . Ok. I changed few keyboards to see if that is a hardware problem . Obviously its not. Whatever keyboard layout I choose .. same story repeats : USA , SRB, GER... I tried to change "key to chooose 3rd level option" in keyboard preferences: right alt, right win , left alt , left win ... but nothing works .

I installed F14 and I have been having some issues with the usage of the ram memory. Here is the situation: while working with firefox, amsn, and VLC, suddenly the system stop responding, I just can manage to check system monitor and the ram is at 89% (of 1GB) and the swap at 50% (of 1.4GB). I can do nothing then I just switch off the machine. After that using the same applications everything is fine. I was using F12.

I am running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx LTS. My laptop is an HP Pavilion TX1210AU (TX1000 series). After disabling the touchpad using the toggle button and reenabling it again, it stopped working. I tried restarting my laptop and the mouse worked again only up to the Login Screen. After logging in to my account, the mouse froze again. I tried making a new account and tried logging into it (I'm using it now) and it's now fixed. Does Ubuntu change any user settings everytime the touchpad toggle (on/off) button is switched? Maybe I could just reenable it myself.

It seems that the touchpad has stopped working on my Acer travelmate 2490. I don't use it often, so that I am not sure when it occurred, but I suspect it was after my update to KDE 4.3.

I can't use the touch pad in my laptop for clicking in the touch surface at the login screen. (and not the buttons) This was even a case in my desktop. but i solved it by choosing enable touchpad click option from control centre > mouse preference > touchpad. But how to enable touchpad click at the login screen?

Got this new Sony from BB on black friday. I also have the pcg-7184l that works fine and the specs looked very similar. Everything seems to work but the touch pad. I am running able to use a USB mouse with no issue. A search online has not been fruitful so now to ask the community. I am willing to start from basics because I am either overlooked something or missing something. On hardware info all I show is the Sony Jogdial and the USB mouse under mouse. That is making me think that HAL is not even detecting the hardware. According to Sony the windows driver is ALPS so for some reason this one is not being detected by the kernel. I had done a clean install and then updates but the touchpad still does not seem to work in Linux but it was working under Windows7 (has since been removed but I do have an image if I have to restore back to windows.

I've been using Ubuntu 10.x for several months without any major problems. Everything was fine until this week.
In the past few days there's been a strange new problem. When I turn my computer on, it works fine for 10 minutes, and then the hard drive suddenly starts spinning and won't stop. While this happens the computer is virtually unusable. Mouse moves slow and jerky; apps don't respond; and eventually the windows close by themselves, the whole screen goes blank, and the system reboots. The whole process takes a long time, sometimes 30 minutes.
The only change I made just before this problem started was upgrading Firefox Beta 4 version 10 to the latest version 11. So, I deleted it, and went back to the latest stable version 3.6.x. That seemed to fix the problem for a day or so. But then it started happening again. I deleted all signs of Firefox; it still happens. So it's not a browser issue.
I am stumped. Today I started my computer and just let it sit there without opening any programs at all except the system monitor. It ran fine for the usual 10-15 minutes, nothing changed out of the ordinary in terms of computer resources used in the system monitor, and then suddenly the drive started spinning wildly again .....
Right now my computer's been on for 10 minutes and I am typing this message .... but who knows what will happen right now.

I have a strange problem where my machine will suddenly stop responding to connections while still remaining partially connectible. Here's an example sequence of events I have taken (numerous times). If anyone can spot something else I should check or has seen these symptoms before please let me know.1) System is using an Edimax 7318-usg, Ubuntu 10.042) Wifi connection is working, with power management turned off (iwconfig)3) Signal strength does not cause the connection to drop (confirmed with router logs)4) When in a ssh session on the problem machine suddenly the ssh session is dropped "host is down"5) When I attempt to re-initiate ssh it fails, no route to host...6) Pinging it fails, accessing a webpage hosted on it fails, all access fails7) The machine I'm pinging/sshing from still has a good network connection8 ) I check my routers DHCP leases, problem machine still has a valid lease.
9) Router still shows problem machine in routing & arp table & shows active traffic going to and from (I checked the routers states and bandwidth monitor for this)10) I try sshing and pinging the problem machine from the laptop on the local network, it still fails, no route to host, wtf?11) I go to the problem machine physically, wifi connection is up with decent signal12) ifconfig indicates it still holds an IP address13) I open a browser on the problem machine, any webpage loads fine14) I ping the laptop from the problem machine, ok15) I ssh from the problem machine to my laptop, it works16) At this point I ssh from the laptop to the problem machine, sometimes it works sometimes it fails(it seems that pinging/sshing the laptop FROM the problem machine sometimes makes it connectable again).
17) Usually if I wait a while the problem machine will randomly become connectable again at random intervals18 ) The only reliable way to make the problem machine connectable again is manually reconnecting it to the wireless network19) I tailed auth.log ufw.log, etc. nothing suspicious disallowing my ssh connection20) dmesg shows nothing unusual, as far as I can tell, just some activity negotiating WPA keys and suchBy looking at the timestamp for the WPA negotiation and cross referencing the router bandwidth monitor I can tell the WPAnegotiation doesn't make it drop the conectionSo that's it, lol.

About some days ago my sound card (an Nvidia CK804 integrated with motherboard, OS ver is 11.3) stop working. I receive a notification each time I start KDE and if I try to test the card from Multiedia Control Module
I suspect that maybe some recent update could produce the problem, if it is so probably there are someone here that has faced the same issue.
The card works fine on windows, so there isn't a hardware problem.

Every time I try to reproduce a MKV file I get the following error:
No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format "h264". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this.
This was working a few days ago with no issues. I think stop working after the last update (not 100% sure). I have tried to uninstall and installed back again, but didn't work.

Upon logging into kde 4.4 the left mouse button (3 button usb mouse) becomes unresponsive on certain windows. For instance the toolbar may still respond to left-click while other windows on the desktop do not register it. However more and more windows/panels become unresponsive rather quickly. The same happens for right-click sometimes but far less often. Some functionality can be recovered by re-plugging the mouse.
Logging out and logging back in solves the problem until the next reboot. I have tried different users and wiping the .kde and .kde4 folders. The problem persists. I can stil work by relogging every time I turn on my computer but it does waste a lot of time so if there are any ideas I'd apreciate it. KDE 4.4 release 3 (There seems to be no updates in YAST available)

I have Lenovo G550 and openSUSE 11.4. Everything's ok, wifi without problems, I could connect to anywhere I wanted to, but yesterday while laptop was running and was connected actually by wire to internet, after removing the wire I realized that I cannot connect to wifi (the laptop was hibernated during night) - even the light diode in the front of the laptop was not shining. I went to yast and realized that the wlan0 isn't enabled and there's new eth1 port. But the wlan by ifup I cannot start and the eth1 I cannot start as well.

When originally installing 11.04 I had problems getting my Ralink 5390 wireless card to work.
Today my computer froze completely and I had to turn it off via the power switch. When I turned it back on, wireless was no longer recognized! My iPod can connect to the network just fine, so it must be an Ubuntu problem. There are no problems with my ethernet connection either.
I researched this and found several threads about blocking and unblocking wireless devices using the rfkill command. Well, unfortunately for me the rfkill command doesn't work. When I type sudo rfkill list or sudo rfkill unblock all, nothing happens; it just returns me to my bash prompt. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling rfkill...nothing.

How do I get the middle button on my X220 to toggle scrolling with the Trackpoint?
And when I installed I couldn't get it to boot from USB in UEFI only. Why is that? How do I fix that so I can do a quick reinstall before I do too much else.
And before I do that reinstall is there anyway to backup the 300MB+ update that I just downloaded because I have appalling internet?

I am connecting servers using NFS4 the shared directories are on servers running Debian 4 while the one who read from them is Debian 5.0.3. The problem is one of these shared servers suddenly stop responding and you cannot list it from Debian 5 server, also df hang, and the web application that is using it does not respond to requests that use this shared directory since it is blocked. Then the load on the server start to increase until the server cannot respond (over 90). I have found many entries in the syslog that refer to this like:
ma25555 kernel: [1200285.732919] nfs: server 10.xxx.xxx.xxx not responding, still trying
Dec 31 08:16:33 ma25555 kernel: [1200289.815378] INFO: task java:9702 blocked for more than 120 seconds.
Dec 31 08:16:33 ma25555 kernel: [1200289.835249] "echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/hung_task_timeout_secs" disables this message.
code....
I have tried the connection between the 2 servers using ping for one day and all are OK (zero lost)
There are 3 other servers that are running Debian 4 and are working fine.

My touchpad mysteriously stopped working in KDE, I had messed with touchpad settings a while back, just general stuff, and on reboot, the touchpad didn't work at all! I purged the entirety of kubuntu-desktop packages, and thought that would fix it. I reinstalled kubuntu-desktop but the problem is still there! It works for the login screen and for gnome, just not kde.

I run Windows 7 (Boo! Hiss!) on my netbook (HP Mini 311c), and I would like to dual boot with Ubuntu. Not the netbook remix, as I just don't like it.
I created a bootable USB with unetbootin, out of the iso, and loaded up. It all loaded fine, except for the fact that the touchpad didn't work. I had to ctrl+alt+del to shut down. What could be causing this?

I can log into ubuntu using my keyboard and mouse but about 5 seconds after I hit enter my mouse quits working. Keyboard still works so I can open terminal and use all keyboard. But, if I hit the touchpad toggle button over and over again many many times in a row, the mouse will start to work and my keyboard stops. I don't know what my course of action is to fix this strange problem. It just started today.

I have been using Ubuntu 10.10 for about a week now, I have had many, many problems, but usually figure them out by searching through this forum, except this time:I have an HP touchsmart tx2 1025dx laptop. When I installed it, everything worked great, sound, mouse, and even the touchscreen. Right now I noticed that when I press the button on by laptop which toggles the touchpad, it works but after it would freeze the menus, so that they would not drop down, I have confirmed this after many restarts. Now the touchpad has stopped working completely. Although if use the toggle button, it will still freeze by menus. It also somehow stops my keyboard from typing things into programs, like firefox, but still somehow the control-alt delete still lets me restart it.
My question is how can I reset the mouse settings/preferances to how they were when I installed? I found something a while back that was xorgconfig??? but it has since been taken out of ubuntu 10.10 (I read this somewhere, please correct me if I'm wrong.) I hope this is enough information for someone to point me in the right direction.Recap:Laptop Touchpad not workingWhen I press the toggle Touchpad button, messes up the menusUsing HP Touchsmart Tx2 1025dx LaptopLooking for a way to reset/restore sound preferences/settings or enable touchpad/ps: I was able to come here because the touchscreen is still working I ended up doing this:rm -rf .gnome .gnome2 .gconf .gconfd .metacitywhich reset ALL of my settings back to when I installed it, without deleting my programs or files.I found this here: http://linuxfud.wordpress.com/2007/0...re-installing/

I have Fedora 12 and I am only running ALSA (not PulseAudio) for my sound.[URL}.. It was working fine until one day I noticed I'm getting no sound. There have been countless Fedora updates (prompted by the Fedora updater) so I'm suspecting some update horsed it up somewhere.
So when I go into System > Preferences > Sound it just hangs waiting for the sound system to respond. The sound card works fine because when I dual boot to Windows XP I do indeed get sound and I haven't changed anything since it worked before under Fedora. Everything is unmuted and turned up in my alsamixer settings.
