Ubuntu Multimedia :: Getting NVidia ION To Output A 852 X 480 Signal?
Jan 20, 2010On an Asrock ION 330HT-BD box Im running Ubuntu 9.10 (2.6.31-17-generic) with the nVidia driver 185.18.36. The Asrock box uses the nVidia ION chip and the nVidia driver appears to be working without any problems.
My problem is, that I what to use the box as a MythTV frontend with an (old) SD Plasma screen as display, which have a native resolution of 852 x 480 and I cant get the box to output a 852 x 480 signal. The Plasma is connected with a HDMI -> DVI cable. No matter what settings I have tried in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, the box keeps outputting a 1024 x 768 (or higher) signal
Questions:
1) Is the nVidia ION chip capable of outputting a 852 x 480 signal?
2) If Yes to above, how do I configure my xorg.conf file?
OpenSUSE Hardware :: Force X To Output Video Signal
Jan 25, 2010I have a new cluster of four OpenSuSE servers serving VM's for a development lab. I have been fighting the good Linux/OpenSuSE fight against established Windows environment and I am embarrassed by certain hardware behavior in X.The four machines are in a cluster with an inexpensive TrendNet TK-407 KVM. The Linux Boxes are Dell T3500's with NVidia Quadro NVS290. I am not running the NVidia proprietary driver.
The behavior is that X keeps placing the display in sleep/powersave mode. If I boot the machine everything works until X takes over upon which point it decides that the display is not there and places it into standby.I don't care whether the KVM may or may not be responding correctly to some monitor protocol, and neither do I care to know or learn about the various DPMS or monitor protocols. The important thing here is that Windows experiences no such behavior. The solution I seek is to configure X to force the signal out of the card, disregarding any DPMS or other protocols.

Sep 29, 2010I listen to some voice mail messages over the web. Firefox downloads the message as a ".wav" file, and then invokes amarok to play it.What I have been noticing, is that amarok seems to cut the message short.As an additional test, today after playing a message on amarok, I tried playing the same message with kaffeine. There was significantly more to the message when played on kaffeine. The particular message ended with the phone number I should call back (if I wanted to). None of that ending sentence showed in the amarok playback

Jun 10, 2011I have a StarTech USB audio adapter which I have been unable to get output from in Suse. Pavucontrol allows me to adjust the output to this device, and even shows some signal when playing media. However, no output makes it to the headset/speaker jack of the USB device. There does not appear to be any issues with playing media to the internal sound card & speakers of the computer. I booted up a Live Ubuntu disk, the device was recognized, and output made it with no problem. This leads me to discount a hardware problem. I'm running Suse 11.4 on a Lenovo Thinkpad T420s.

Nov 20, 2010Having some problems with HDMI-Audio on my HTPC: I don't get sound out of HDMI port! For system info look there: Sysprofile
OS is Suse11.3 64Bit with KDE now!
At "System-Settings/Multimedia/Audio Output" there are the following devices in the given order:
HDA NVidia (ALC662 rev1 Analog)
HDA NVidia (ALC662 rev2 Digital)
HDA NVidia, NVIDIA HDMI (HDMI Audio)
That's consistent with the connector layout of the mainboard. Playing "Test sound" while marked the HDMI Audio is not causing any output with HDMI, while analog works just fine!
I also installed the nVidia prop drivers with the packet manager.
In YAST there is one card found in the sound section::
Idex=0 and Card Model=MCP79 High Definition Audio
OpenSUSE Multimedia :: 11.4 - Lost Digital Surround Output
Mar 10, 2011Alright so I just upgraded my 11.3 x64 to 11.4 using zypper dup and have now lost the ability to play digital output 5.1. Before doing the upgrade I was running alsa rather than phonon but apparently the upgrade decided to enable phonon, and I no longer show digital surround output. The soundcard I have is a CM8738 and I am using the coaxial output on it hooked into my receiver. In system settings->multimedia->phonon->speaker setup the soundcard shows and I have the ability to select different profiles.
However the digital output settings only show stereo and the sound output device the only one listed is CM8738 Digital Stereo (IEC958). I have selections for analog 5.1 and analog 7.1 but neither put anything out of the digital connection. As I said I was running alsa before and was able to do straight digital pass through which allowed my receiver to do the decoding and use all of my channels. How can I setup phonon to use digital passthrough, or switch back to alsa and get that setup again.

Apr 8, 2010A few days ago I setup a pc. It contains an "Intel ICH5" sound card. Before I begin posting all the configuration stuff I've tried so far what the standard procedures are to set it all up for recording the sound card output (with Audacity)?
On my older computer it all worked fine but now I only get silent recordings. However sometimes (when I played on the controls the right way...) I get recordings where you can (amoung some noise) recognize the stuff I actually wanted to record very low... Apart from Audacity I've also tried

Aug 2, 2011I have a TV card connected to my Dish box, and I would like to use it on my computer. The tv card works fine, and the audio is connected to my line in. The audio card receives the audio signal, and I can set the volume and record it without any problem, but I can't get it to redirect to an output in order to hear the sound. I have been battling with this issue since a kernel update back when 11.2 was about to come out. Back then, the alsa mixer had an option called audio loop-back, which did the trick. Since I know I ca record the audio and play it back without any problem, is there an application that can do this automatically and simultaneously?

Both my speakers and headphones have output, are affected by the volume control and it even detects when I plug in headphones and stops output to the speakers. OpenSUSE Multimedia :: No Sound On HDMI Output - No Beeps - No System Sounds ?
Jun 25, 2011I am attempting to set up a machine to use as a movie/video viewer. When I connect this machine using an HDMI cable to an HDMI TV, I get video, but no audio. No beeps, no system sounds, no noise of any kind.
I've run the following mixers and set all volume controls to maximum:Gmixer, Kmix, AlsaMixer and pavucontrol.
When playing a video, pavucontrol meter shows signal from the application and shows output signal to the HDMI device, but where that output is going to is beyond me.
Using the Sound setup of Yast, I attempt to play a test sound on the HDMI, nothing.
Built in Audio adapter works fine. I have disabled it in pavucontrol in attempts to get the sound directed to the HDMI output, but, silence is all I get. I've also tried enabling and disabling simultaneous output with no difference in results.
I've tried a few suggestions from other posts with the same issue (creating /etc/asoundrc.conf, modifying /etc/pulse/default.pa), but no joy.
If I boot up that other operating system (starts with a W), all sounds (system & video) show up on the HDMI input with no adjustments needed.
Why must this be so difficult?

Jun 9, 2011Is it possible to output one playback stream to multiple devices simultaneously with the current PulseAudio / Phonon setup? The PulseAudio mixer only has radio buttons to choose one device per playback stream. I believe the hardware is capable of this, since I remember doing that before we had PulseAudio. How can I duplicate an audio stream?
Here's one application scenario: I am travelling with my family, all crammed in small hotel room. My wife and me want to watch a movie on my laptop without waking up our kids. I just happen to have one analogue headphone available and one wireless USB headset with me. (Of course, the low tech solution is to bring an 3,5mm Y-cable to attach two analogue headsets, but I would really love to use the USB headset together with the analogue one.)
Another similar thing that bugs me is that my laptop's built-in speakers now always seem dead when an analogue headphone is plugged in. This is mostly what one wants, and before PulseAudio, one had to manually switch them off which was generally annoying. However, the downside is for example with notifications.
For example, before PulseAudio, I could configure Skype to always ring over the laptop's built-in speakers, regardless of whether the analogue headphones were plugged in. This is no longer possible, since PulseAudio does not distinguish between built-in speakers and built-in analogue port any more, while old Alsa did. So in my office, where some analogue headphones are plugged into the docking station, I never hear Skype ringing if I don't wear the headphones.

My capture card that I am having issues with is a Hauppauge Wintv-HVR-1850 card, I followed the instructions on installation from linuxtv.org and did not get any errors. I tried to set up Mythtv and it didn't get a signal and couldn't find any channels. I would like to know if my card is even working so I tried using xawtv but still could not get a signal from my card.

Jul 17, 2011I installed edubuntu 11.04 a couple months ago on the kids computer. Everytime we would boot up, we received the signal out of range during the entire boot sequence. However once the login screen showed up, we could see the desktop fine. However, now it will not display anything from the time grub loads it is just Signal out of range. I even let it sit for about 10 minutes. I can boot from the live cd fine...but I'm not sure what to change. How can I fix this issue from the live cd?

Jul 21, 2011I am running 11.04 on a new Gateway with 8 gigs of ram. It is a solo installation. The monitor is connected via an HDMI cable. Everything was great (installation running smoothly for over a month) until last night. I just installed a netgear router and was setting it up with the system to try to get Stanza on my IPAD to connect to Calibre. Anyway, i suffered a severe freeze up warranting a hard boot. I could see the drive working, ancillary drives lit up, keyboard lit up so I know the system is working. The monitor did not come on, It shows a yellow light indication no signal. It is a 28" Hansspree. I tested the monitor by hooking it to a laptop. The monitor is fine. I cannot see anything on the screen so I can't boot to repair mode or use a CD. There is no signal.
