Just installed OpenSUSE 11.4, and so far I love everything about it, the only thing that's not working is the sound. I have my sound card setup in YaST -> Sound like I always have, and it recognizes it as M-Audio Delta Audiophile 24/96. I also installed alsa-tools-gui to get Envy24Control for ICE1712 chipsets, and I unmuted all the outputs, and raised the DAC volume. My speakers are on, and all the cables check out. My sound was working fine except I couldn't get system sounds (notifications) to work. So I decided to install pulseaudio to see if it would fix it. Now I get system sounds and my other sounds, but now in most things (such as firefox and warcraft 3) the sound is choppy. I've tried SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE and a couple other things I've googled but it's not working for me. I'd like to be able to fix it or at least go back to the way it was.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIn Gnome and XFCE I always have a choppy music playback. The music is never played smoothly. There is always hesitations in the playback, as if the CPU is running on 100% and cannot cope with the system load.
One of the reasons for that is (in my case) Pulseaudio.
Another reason is Gstreamer. When I choose Gstreamer as backend in KDE, I get the same choppy musicplayback as in Gnome or XFCE. With Xine as backend in KDE, everything is fine. So my conclusion is: with Xine, the sound would be fine in Gnome too.
So, I wonder if it is possible to use Xine as backend in Gnome too. Does anyone have experience with running Xine in Gnome and/or XFCE? What do I need to do to set Gnome/XFCE, so that it uses Xine instead of Gstreamer?
Or is there maybe a special setting, I have to apply? In gstreamer-properties I have tried all possible settings, but this didnīt change anything to the quality of sound.
My experience is also: this choppy sound is hardware-independend. It doesnīt matter which hardware I use, the sound is choppy. It is also distro-independend. The sound is choppy in openSUSE (gnome and in KDE with applied Gstreamer backend), in Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Fedora with Gnome, Linux Mint with Gnome.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter spending a full day messing with my dual monitors displays-should-not-be-cloned-by-default, I have now come to the sound. The config looks like the 11.3 setup (I alternate partitions from one install to the next), but all I get is silence. KMix won't run. Amrok is silent. "Sound Configuration" gets me to a window showing two cards I know nothing about. I've got an nVIDIA chip on the mother board and the two cards listed are "M2N72-D w/ snd-hda-intel" and "Creative Tech, Ltd. w/ snd-usb-audio". I'd have gone back to 11.3 where this stuff works, but my configuration files were all auto-updated and don't really work any more. I guess I ought to have archived the config files, but I didn't and I'm here now.

My sound was working fine when I was trying out Ubuntu on a partition, I was so chuffed with it I did a fresh install. I have no sound. VLC, Amarok, Clementine, Audacity, Audacious, every audio player in the Ubuntu Universe doesn't play sound. Obviously it's something 'hardware' or 'driver' connected because it all worked perfectly when I still had Windows as the 'host' partition. I'm not going back to Windows I'll try out OpenSuse or something to see if the sound thing happens on that.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed karmic on my media server. With Jaunty, everything worked fine. I tried an upgrade, and go no sound. After poking around in the forms and trying some solutions still no sound.
So I decided to try a fresh install, again, no sound. I have cheched the obvious, mixer volumes, mute, output device, etc. But I can't seem to get it to work. I poked around in the forms and I've tried many of the solutions, but still no luck.

I just installed lubuntu 10.04 on an old machine and cant get the sound to work. I have been through the sticky but cant seem to see the problem. Heres the useful output:

I've never had any problems before,but I just did a fresh install of 10.04.1 on a brand new drive yesterday. I noticed this morning that I have no sound drivers(under the hardware tab of sound preferences, there is nothing listed). I found a thread that had this line to run:

I will tell you this: The hard ware is a MSI mother board [AMD flavored] [exact numbers, not known at the moment, but can be recovered]. The audio is built into the mother board. It worked fine with Ubuntu 10.04 I read a few posts here and there, and ran a hardware diagnostic. It came back and said no sound card was installed.
View 3 Replies View RelatedFollowing some problems of kernel upgrade, I have resinstalled my system. I now have some issues with sound. CD are recognized and played but no sound is coming out of my speakers (tested with amarok and caffeine). Same thing on .....: I see the video and get no sound.
However, I can hear the test sound form Configure Desktop / Multimedia
Any clue about what is going on?
I can hear everyone clearly but when I go to talk, my voice comes out choppy. However, when I use Sound Recorder to record myself, everything plays back clearly.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi'm having choppy sound in 10.04. i didn't have it in 9.10 and i don't know enough about how it works to try to fix it.
here are some things i have noticed, however.
1. the choppy sound is present in a 64bit and 32bit install. at first i thought it may just be a 64bit issue so i reinstalled to 32bit and it is still present.
2. it does not seem to matter what media type i am playing. i notice it most with videos from videos and music from pandora.
3. it seems to occur more often at intense moments of music. i'm not really sure how to describe it, but it is typically the climax of a song where it is a little louder and more intense.
When I am scrolling using my touchpad on my Dell E1505 regardless of which program, my sound skips. Its like it becomes scratchy or similar. I had the same problem with 10.04 and fixed it by modifying some modset file. Said it had something to do with my ATI X1400 GFX card too.

Having some problems with HDMI-Audio on my HTPC: I don't get sound out of HDMI port! For system info look there: Sysprofile
OS is Suse11.3 64Bit with KDE now!
At "System-Settings/Multimedia/Audio Output" there are the following devices in the given order:
HDA NVidia (ALC662 rev1 Analog)
HDA NVidia (ALC662 rev2 Digital)
HDA NVidia, NVIDIA HDMI (HDMI Audio)
That's consistent with the connector layout of the mainboard. Playing "Test sound" while marked the HDMI Audio is not causing any output with HDMI, while analog works just fine!
I also installed the nVidia prop drivers with the packet manager.
In YAST there is one card found in the sound section::
Idex=0 and Card Model=MCP79 High Definition Audio
A few days ago I setup a pc. It contains an "Intel ICH5" sound card. Before I begin posting all the configuration stuff I've tried so far what the standard procedures are to set it all up for recording the sound card output (with Audacity)?
On my older computer it all worked fine but now I only get silent recordings. However sometimes (when I played on the controls the right way...) I get recordings where you can (amoung some noise) recognize the stuff I actually wanted to record very low... Apart from Audacity I've also tried

Is the combination of OpenSuse 11.2 + ALSA + Intel ICH5 commonly known to cause such trouble?
I'm using pulse audio sound server in opnsuse 11.3 and latest version of flash player, The problem is playing video or sound with flash player in firefox, Once I play something in firefox sound output it seem like closed to other applications like amarok.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to set up a machine to use as a movie/video viewer. When I connect this machine using an HDMI cable to an HDMI TV, I get video, but no audio. No beeps, no system sounds, no noise of any kind.
I've run the following mixers and set all volume controls to maximum:Gmixer, Kmix, AlsaMixer and pavucontrol.
When playing a video, pavucontrol meter shows signal from the application and shows output signal to the HDMI device, but where that output is going to is beyond me.
Using the Sound setup of Yast, I attempt to play a test sound on the HDMI, nothing.
Built in Audio adapter works fine. I have disabled it in pavucontrol in attempts to get the sound directed to the HDMI output, but, silence is all I get. I've also tried enabling and disabling simultaneous output with no difference in results.
I've tried a few suggestions from other posts with the same issue (creating /etc/asoundrc.conf, modifying /etc/pulse/default.pa), but no joy.
If I boot up that other operating system (starts with a W), all sounds (system & video) show up on the HDMI input with no adjustments needed.
Why must this be so difficult?

I run ubuntu 10.10 with an 870-g45 motherboard which contains a VIA VT1828S integrated sound chip with 8 audio channels as it states on [URL]... I am having issues with getting microphones to work properly on my computer. Sound output works great but microphones don't. I've noticed when I tested mic's on the sound configuration it would act like it gets input but it would be choppy or laggy sound. Anytime i talk to people on voice chat they say my voice sounds like it keeps clipping in and out and they can't understand a thing I say. First how do I get HDMI audio output to my TV? I think I have just a integrated Intel graphics card. It works fine in windows but I can't seem to get it to work in Ubuntu. I tried searching but couldn't find anything pertaining to this issue.
Recently installed Ubuntu 9.1 following an easy how to. The install session went really well, smooth and only had one little speed bump when deciding which drive to install to (running raid and did not want to loose other partition). Like most speed bumps I got passed it. Ran all the updates then decided to start listening to music with Rythmbox Music Player. The sound coming out of my Klipsch Pro Media 4.1 was muffled and sounded like just the subwoofer was on. I checked all connections and they were fine. I tried looking for equalizer but did not find it and then noticed the sound was like a skipping record. So I looked it up and came across some posts that I could not figure out if they were for my problem. Seemed to me they were just leading me in circles.

I have a fresh install of Natty and i'm having some issues getting sound to work. My laptop has a built in sound card which works just fine. However, i also have a usb 5.1 sound card which isn't working at all. Both devices show up in 'Sound Preferences' but when i select the 5.1 device as the output device sound doesnt work. 1. When I change the sound to internal sound the webcam works in Skype but I have not sound.
2. When I change the sound to the USB headset (sound output) the webcam does not work in Skype.

I'm getting choppy playback in flash, 32bit. It's fine until I go fullscreen. Anyone have any ideas? I was thinking of installing the 64bit version of opensuse. My experience of Flash at 64 bit on Ubuntu was very stable and choppy free. I'm running Core 2 Duo Processor with and ATI Radeon and 2 gig of ram.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently installed openSUSE on a new Toshiba and i'm getting very choppy video while watching videos on ....., justin.tv, etc. The video is fine as long as I don't full screen. However, when I try to fullscreen a stream on justin.tv or a ..... video, it instantly becomes choppy and video is extremely delayed in relation to the sound. The sound still continues at it's regular pace, however the video lags behind and is just choppy in general.Also, not sure if this helps, but i'm running an i3 2310M.
