OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Frame Tearing On 11.3?

Jul 20, 2010

I am getting frame tearing on my tv when I play videos using mplayer. I get no tearing when I play it on my primary monitor. I didnt have this problem with 11.2
I am using a nvidia 9500gt, I have a crt monitor and my hdtv hooked up to it. The tv is connected by hdmi. I am running 11.3 with nvidia driver from the site, and kde 4.4.93. Also it should be noted that the tearing happened as well in kde 4.4.4 that was default. Disabling compositing makes no difference. In nvidia setting opengl is set to sync to vblank, and x server xvideo settings is set to sync to the tv (although it wont save that setting) and still with the tearing.

my xorg.conf
# nvidia-settings: X configuration file generated by nvidia-settings
# nvidia-settings: version 256.35 (buildmeister@builder97.nvidia.com) Wed Jun 16 19:14:45 PDT 2010

Ubuntu Multimedia :: HDMI Frame Tearing + No Sound?

Oct 12, 2010

I have a nvidia 330m card with the proprietary driver and am currently on ubuntu 10.10Every time i play a video via hdmi, I get frame tearing on my tv and no sound. I used to get frame tearing on the primary display of my laptop as well but it stopped when I switched to metacity but it still didn't help with the hdmi output. And when I go to alsamixer, the nvidia card displayed there is different than what I have (It says GT220).

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Major Tearing In 10.10 With ATI

Nov 19, 2010

I've always had kind of an issue with tearing in Ubuntu but today I got round to updating to 10.10 64 bit, and decided to try and do something about the tearing. I followed this [URL] to the word except on the line "sudo aticonfig -initial" where I had to use "sudo aticonfig --initial" for the xorg.conf to regenerate. It worked great to start with but after a reboot the tearing got terrible. The tearing I used to experience was multiple tearing lines at random heights that appeared momentarily and could only really be noticed in fast moving scenes of films or games.

Now I get just one tear line which starts at the bottom of my monitor and slowly moves up to the top of the monitor over a period of about 10-15 seconds. Once it gets to the top it re-appears at the bottom and starts again, and the refresh difference on either side of the tear is at about 0.5 seconds it makes videos pretty much unwatchable. My graphics card is an ATI Radeon HD 8500, and the AA on it supports up to x8 sampling where as the tutorial only says to go up to x4 (I am unsure if this is because x4 is the max for most cards or because for some reason mid settings are better) but both seem to get the same result. Also I'm using the proprietary ATI drivers and Catalyst Control.

Debian Multimedia :: Compiz Antialiasing Causes Tearing?

Jun 25, 2011

I enabled Antialiasing in nvidia-settings and added "nvidia-settings -l" in a file /etc/X11/Xsession.d/, i knew it worked because sync to vblank works with glxgears and stuff. I enabled 4x antialiasing, allow flipping and texture sharpening in nvidia settings, i also enabled all instances of sync to vblank in nvidia-settings i disabled dynamic twinview i also enabled sync to vblank in ccsm and manually set the refresh rate to 60hz the cube is smoother now, but when i move windows around, i get slight tearing at the edges, when i disable AA and restart compiz, the tearing goes away. There is no tearing when i move windows vertically: It only happens when i move horizontally:

Debian stable 2.6.32-5 amd64
nvidia-glx 195.36.31-6 0

Ubuntu Multimedia :: AVI Video Playback Tearing?

Oct 23, 2010

I'm sorry if this was asked before (i know it was but never worked for me) 2 days ago I installed ubuntu 10.10, my very first linux OS and I immediately fell in love with it.The only problem now, is tearing during video playback (I'm a perfectionist with a thing for fine details, so this is literally killing me)

I have nVidia 9200M GS (HP laptop)
I've set nVidia setting to sync vblank and disabled it in compiz
I've also disabled PowerMizer..

I love the system to give up some vsync issues in moving windows, but i just can't get over video tearing. I'm ready to install anything, change anything, even do a new clean install to get it working. UPDATE: Installed SMPlayer, works fine but drops couple of frames every 5 secs or so (more annoying than tearing lol) is there any specific settings that can fix that?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Screen Tearing After Resolution Change?

May 15, 2011

After upgrading to 11.04, my screen resolution was reset to 1024x768. As the native resolution for my monitor is 1920x1080, I went to reset that. The resolution didn't exist in the Monitors applications, so I did the following:

Code:
kane@Griffin:~$ cvt 1920 1080 60
# 1920x1080 59.96 Hz (CVT 2.07M9) hsync: 67.16 kHz; pclk: 173.00 MHz
Modeline "1920x1080_60.00" 173.00 1920 2048 2248 2576 1080 1083 1088 1120 -hsync +vsync

[Code].....

The monitor adjust, but most of the screen shows tearing and doesn't update correctly. Hard to explain, so I attached a screenshot at 1024x768, working normally, and 1920x1080, fubar. I've cropped these images to get them to fit the forum limitations, but they still show the issue.

My monitor is an LG Flatron W2253TQ, my graphics card is an ATI Radeon HD 4650, although the manufacturer is Biostar. I'm using the default free drivers.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Tearing And Choppy Video W/ ION 330 Vdpau In Xinerama

Aug 24, 2010

I have a ASRock ION 330 with 512 Mbyte shared graphics memory. I use the 256.44 closed source nvidia drivers and have a Xinerama display consisting of one Asus 1440x900 monitor and one video projector with displaysize of 1280x720. Display: 1440x900 + 1280x720 in Xinerama

I have tried with and without desktop effects enabled, and I have followed the http://tombuntu.com/index.php/2009/0...thout-tearing/ guide to manually set the refresh rate to 60 Hz. The sync to Vblank option is checked, both in CCSM and nvidia-settings under X Server Xvideo Settings and under OpenGL Settings, to no avail.

The files I play are MPEG-2 Transport Stream in 720p. Some are and some are not in Matroska containers. I use SMplayer with vdpau enabled. I've made a comparison of Windows Vista and Ubuntu 10.04 below:[URL].. It's not entirely clear from the video, but the end scroller is choppy on Ubuntu and relatively smooth in Windows Vista.

This setup is to be run in a public cinema, and the chopping and tearing is a complete showstopper. It would be a nice showcase to have Ubuntu in the wild like this, but it can't be used if these issues are not resolved.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Maverick Meerkat - ATI X9150 Pro - No Hardware Acceleration And Page Tearing

Oct 19, 2010

Running Meerkat 10.10 with an ATI X1950 PRO, and with no visual enhancements I get page tearing on minimising windows and things like that.

If I turn on even basic visual effects, then Maverick slows down and becomes quite unresponsive. There are noticeably long delays between closing windows or clicking on a menu etc.

Is this because the open source ATI driver does not support hardware acceleration on my X1950 yet?

Is there any hope for me? Recent versions of Ubuntu seems to have taken a step back in that respect. I remember 8.04 worked really well!

Ubuntu Multimedia :: ATI X1650 Poor GLXgears Frame Rate

Jul 26, 2011

11.04 x86
4Gb RAM
Dual 2.8 AMD
ATI x1650 radeon (512mb)

I've been struggling with this for months now and I've tried some many things, I've forgotten half of them!

Basically, 11.04 picks up my card fine using the open xorg driver. I've got compize desktop effects (wobbly windows) but I can't play any HD video as it stutters and is completely unwatchable.

So to do any video editing, I have to boot into my Windows 7 install where the performance is considerably better.

Now then, I once managed to get a glxgears frame rate of 11,000 before I broke my install and had to re-install. Now I can't get above 300fps

rb@ub:~/Desktop$ glxgears Running synchronized to the vertical refresh. The framerate should be approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate.

302 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.258 FPS
301 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.023 FPS
301 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.019 FPS
301 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.022 FPS

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Frame Tear On Intel HD GMA And NVidia GeForce 310M?

Jul 25, 2011

I bought an asus U33JC and except for one major issue (frame tear) it works fine out of the box using 11.04 64bit, with some minor issues easily solved (suspend, upside down cam on skype, flash and java). The U33JC has optimus, but also a bios option to disable the Intel GMA. So I could use the on chip Intel GMA or disable it and use the discrete GF310M.

The major issue I have now is poor video playback. Frame tear occurs in every single configuration I tried: Either using the internal Intel GMA, or disabling the Intel via bios option and using the NVidia proprietary drivers or even using bumblebee. This frame tear occurs also on the desktop, but the real problem is that it's very noticeable on video, specially when connecting my HD TV via HDMI. I tested 720p h264 mkv videos and even low res xvid avis in totem and mplayer/Smplayer all equally poor. Using mplayer I tried several vo options, such as xv (intel? xv) and x11, and playback is poor on all of them. Oh, and I don't use compiz (don't care for it). Refresh rate is 60Hz, and should be the right one. It works fine with vlc on the soon to be transformed into free space windows7, but that's not an option for me. I used Ubuntu before on a laptop, but I usually use Gentoo, so I'm not familiar with the ubuntu distro.

The purpose of this laptop was to be my "tv media center" when at home and my work laptop for travelling (13 inch ! ). But it failed miserably on the first count. I'm still using my old celeron based Gentoo laptop with RGB out to my tv for that, still with much better results (it can decode only up to 720p, which is fine). But it is dying! I really don't understand why playback is so poor. Could messing with xconf be the answer?

EDIT: Here's my xorg log. NO VSYNC? Is this right? Please help.

Code:
[ 20.743]
X.Org X Server 1.10.1
Release Date: 2011-04-15

OpenSUSE :: Digital Phot Frame - Which Graphics Application To Use

May 14, 2011

I've just bought my first digital photo frame, so now I have to choose which photos to load to it, and then rescale them all to the correct size. So I'm wondering what's the best application to let me browse through my photos and select a subset, which I can then make a copy of.

I normally use F-Spot and I just tried selecting by using a tag, but that rapidly got tiresome using several clicks to select each picture. So then I started building up a set using ctrl-click, intending to add the tag to them all. But I got a rude shock when I right-clicked on one to rotate it and discovered that had the side-effect of deselecting all the other photos.

Code:

I inevitably get some weird green band at the bottom of the frame in the converted video. I know that there's some weird pixel stretching going on here, because the NTSC standard for 16:9 is 720x480 with rectangular pixels, and the 1080 version has square pixels, so I'm guessing the green band is an artifact of that process?
