Just after boot of my opensuse 11.2, the /dev is less than 10% full. But, as time runs, it becomes full, leading to problems. I have searched for the reason, and find an ever growing file, named preloadtrace.log.May I rotate this log as other ones with webmin (and should I use special commands to do it), or is it possible to avoid the creation (or the filling) of this file ?

The rsync module "opensuse-full" which worked well so far seems currently broken. It tries to mirror a huge number of additional stuff (factory?) but fails with "permission denied". Any place where I could report this?Command:

I tried to delete some files when I tried to delete a 1.8gig file it said wastebin full do manuel delete I emptied bin manuely but still wont let me delete file, the file is a downloaded file I deleted smaller files ok from same folder, I,m using 11.2 kde. Also I noticed that there is not a button to empty wastebin

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a problem that I can't login to SUSE in graphical mode. I get to the login prompt; enter my username and password; SUSE starts to do the login but then crashes back to the login prompt. Looking in /var/log/messages doesn't tell me anything useful. However, I noticed that my SUSE system partition is full (at 20 GB). So I think this is the culprit that is stopping my login.
Unfortunately, I can't extend my system partition as it is ext4 (SUSE default) but parted (from SUSE 11.2 live cd) complains that it can't do anything with ext4.

I have Suse 11.3 KDE dual boot with Win 7. There is a Desktop Folder on the main screen, with one icon named "My Computer". when I click this icon, Konqueror opens a window with detailed information of the System along with Disk Information (detailed partitions of Windows 7). Once I select any one of these partitions, it opens the one said partition.
One thing I have noticed, if I "Right Click" a folder in this Win 7 partition, there is an option of opening that folder with Dolphin Super user Mode. After using this, I can edit the contained subfolders or files.On the other hand if there is a file (i.e. outside a folder), there is no option of Super user Mode and I cannot edit these files. at times I have to rename them or delete them. But for doing so I have to restart computer and go into Windows (which I don't like)is there any way of having a full control of Suse and Windows (permanently). i recently bought a pre-Win7 loaded netbook, and soon discovered anytime i moved a window and even accidently bumped the top edge of the screen the window would instantly pop to full screen side to side and top to bottom..i figured it was just another Redmond 'innovation' and just got in the habit of not bumping the top..but, now on KDE i see exactly the same behavior...is this something new in 4.6 or, is it just on this machine (maybe a BIOS intercept) or what the heck is it??
i have looked for and not found a way to turn off this abomination in user interface 'innovation' in either openSUSE 11.4 or Lose7..(i'm kinda tired of having to click it down from full screen--this is a MULTI-threaded system and i do not use just one app at a time..)

I have 11.2 installed on my laptop but have a bit of an issue. When I boot it normally, it will not use my full screen, instead it only uses about a 5"x5" box in the center and displays there, but when i boot into failsafe, it uses the full screen.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI can't login due to my file-system being full. I found the main area with the large usage. Var/log is taking 99.5% of my var folder. On a full file-system scan Var/log is taking up 85% of disk use. File-system capacity is 36 gig. Temp is cleared after each boot.
What can I do to clean up any unnecessary files. I can only boot in safe mode and have limited navigation skills. To get scan results I booted a live-disc.

I was copying a file to my pendrive it was taking a very log time which was ridiculous so I cancelled it but when I reboot my sysem next time my root drive became almost full (20gb partition, 12gb was free before. now its only 3 gb is free) also my pendrive is dead in linux in window it says you have to format the pendrive before use it when I click on format, format stops and says you don't have permission. also Now I cannot write anything on my winodws c or d drive because of permission.

This obnoxious bar has just appeared in Smplayer at the top of the screen. It stays there even when I go full screen. Now full screen isn't full screen and there are black edges on both sides of the screen. I have not be able to figure out how to hide it. I do not need or want this onscreen display. How can I configure Smplayer to make this go away? How can I get my 16:9 full screen aspect ratio back? I have done nothing to mplayer or smplayer as far as editing any or changing any configuration files. I tried several videos and it displays on all of them. It was not there last time I used Smplayer.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my graphics card from a Geforce 7600GS to a Gefore 560Ti. And while most things are normal, during boot up my screen isn't "full screen" until X is started, after which everything else is fine. Essentially, all display, the grub menu, the splash screen, console text, etc, is within a box on the screen, with 2" on the left and right, and 1" top and bottom of empty blackness.
From what I understand, this is because the framebuffer is using the wrong resolution, but the maximum resolution that hwinfo --framebuffer returns is 1280x1024 (which I am already using "0x031a".) (My monitors is natively 1920x1080) Is it possible to do something about this? If not increase resolution than at least stretch the screen to full screen?

I had been copying "vmkd" files all of which are very large (11gig) each and later deleted them and it appears some I had deleted using "root" I reached a point when it couldn't do it and it said it couldn't because trash bin was full. Sure enough I found my root partition (20gigs) was full. I went root and emptied its trash bin which freed up about (4gigs) of space. I just set up a new system (11.2) on another drive and have setup it up with exactly the same programs as the system I'm having a problem with and the new systems root partition only has (6gigs) in the root partition. Question; how do I clean out my problem root partition?
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhat is the easiest and/or safest way to migrate my Wubi 10.04 install to a full install? Currently, my Dell XPS M1530 is currently dual-booting Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and Windows Vista Home Premium, and I've decided after using Windows a total of around 4 hours over the past 6 months that I can probably let it go. So, I don't need Windows anymore and I believe I'm ready for a full install of Ubuntu. Though, I probably will wait for 11.04 to come out first.
A few ways I've thought of already are: 1) Find an external hard drive to put the Wubi files on. 2) Upload files to an storage website. 3) Temporarily put the Wubi files onto another computer (Windows). All these meaning I would then wipe my harddrive and install Ubuntu from a CD. And by "files", I mean Documents, Pictures, Downloads, etc.
EDIT: deleting all my applications, because OpenOffice.org won't reinstall on my computer due to dependency issues while attempting to install LibreOffice. So a fresh install would be nice.
If I start the software installer, I see my tmp is almost full. I tried to find cleansweep, but in vain. What can I do to clean tmp? Can all files be removed?

i have a failing hdd and need to run ubuntu from a usb stick instead of normal.i dont need to know how to have a live image on a usb stick and install to the hdd cause i dont have a hdd that works (or the money to buy a new one) what i need to know is if there is a way for me to run a full featured install of ubuntu from my usb stick.by full featured i mean, able to save options and general usage and not the "try" feeling of a live os.
btw the reason for all this is having a computer telling me all the time since installing ubuntu 9.10 that i have many bad sectors.when trying to erase the whole hdd with dnk (dariks nuke somthhing) i get the same message so i dont think its a scam (read about a bug in 9.10 causing working hardware to look like failing)i really need some help.also if anyone knows if theres a way to make a bad sectored hdd work again.
I installed Slackware quite awhile ago now, and am starting to wish that I'd done a full install instead of cherry-picking my packages. Is there any way I can do it retroactively... you know, just add all the stuff I didn't install? I'm running -current.

How can I correct this?
Konqueror opens in full screen every time which is more a nuance than an issue, I just haven't had time to search why; I'm seeing if anyone else has this issue or knows the preset to change how K. starts up. I don't use Konqueror enough. I can right click to take it off full screen mode, but for who ever else who uses it, it can be a nuance.
I also have this same issue with Thunderbird, but I can't get it out of full screen mode there is no menu bar up top to reduce, minimize or close out.
I was playing a game called "BZFlag", it's a full screen game, and I saw someone sent me an message on skype and I pressed "alt+tab" trying to get out from the game... but nothing happens, i was still in game, and i couldn't quit the game, the game wasn't catching my keyboard input at all.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi'm curently compressing a big 100GB file with 7zip on a system with an intel 2,66Ghz quadcore processor. Allthough 7zip uses 4 cores to compress the file, it still uses only about 40% of the cpu performance. The cpu isn't doing anything else, nothing heavy anyway.
I started compressing 8 hours ago and the compression is currently 47% done. Reading and writing the files isn't very fast so my harddrive isn't slowing the process down.
So what's the holdup? There is still 53% of work to be done. Is it for some reason impossible to do this faster?
Could anyone recommend a method of creating a full disk image. I have the Acronis bootable media, would this work to backup Linux partitions? I'm thinking that Acronis doesn't know or care what is written to the disk as it works at a lower level.

Now suddenly it won't use a higher resolution than 1024x768.I never added any mods to the configuration and have not added any software other than recommended updates it quite a while.Any ideas what happened or how to fix it? I checked and the monitor/graphics card will still do upper resolutions with windoze so I'm guessing the hardware is alright.Using OpenSuse 11.3, 64bit, on a dual core athalon with a Sapphire ATI x1600 graphics card and a 22 inch flat screen that is supposed to go 1600 x 1050.
