OpenSUSE Install :: Mount A UFS2 Partition As Read And Write
Jun 23, 2010I need some assistance mount a UFS2 partition as read and write. if its not possible, then I may have to copy a few hundred GBs of data. Currently using the command: Code: mount -r -t ufs -o ufstype=UFS2 /dev/sdb /Data Thats just read only.

Apr 10, 2010When I installed OpenSuse 11.2 it mounted I configured to mount all of my windows/NTFS partition. However, one problem is that only root can write to it. I was trying to change it to '777' permission. However, as root I can't change permission. chmod doesn't work and neither does using nautilus (as root) work.I even tried unmounting it and then doing a chmod. That didn't work either.

Dec 19, 2009I've got a triple boot system here (W7,XP,OpenSUSE 11.1). Several windows partitions are mounted as part of the standard opensuse install. I can write to them from opensuse only when I am superuser. I suspect I need to tweak mtab? Here is my ftab followed by mtab: Any ideas?

OpenSUSE Install :: Can Only Write NTFS As Root
May 16, 2011After the fresh installation of openSUSE 11.4 x64 (Gnome 2.32.1) my NTFS drives were mounted automatically. However, I can only write those partitions as root. I' ve already tried everything I found on the internet, but none of those solutions worked and as a rookie, I haven't got any idea how to proceed. My original FSTAB looked like this:

I also installed ntfs-config and according to it my drives are supposed to be writeable (although that might refer to my root account). But none of the above steps made my NTFS partitions writeable for a non-root account. I restarted my system after each time I changed the content of FTSAB.

Dec 21, 2009I have 64GB USB stick NTFS formated. I'd like to exchange files much bigger than 4GB between windows and linux. FAT32 doesn't support files bigger than 4GB. Is it possible to mount NTFS RW under Debian Lenny?

Jan 8, 2010In one of our client system there is a partition which shows NTFS and other partitions are ext3...the partition which shows NTFS is a seperate HDD...The NTFS partition has been mounted...but we are not able to write anything to it...but we checked in /etc/fstab....it shows 'ro' so we changed to defaults....after making chnages when we tried to remount using the command mount -o remount /partition.it shows the device is already been in use try using the command fuser or lsof.we tried fuser /partition and then killed that process..still same error.....I would also like to know is there a way that we convert the NTFS partition to ext3 without losing the datas.

May 2, 2010About dual boot system with winxp and lenny.
Storage information:
1st primary:SG 160G ATA 100
1st secondary:WD 160 ATA 133
SATA:WD 1000
2nd primary:DVD
2nd secondary:DVD±RW
Winxp in 1st primary.I did a fresh install of lenny on 1st secondary.
info about lenny setup:
1.Partition list:/boot,/,/home,swap
2.Every partition is XFS except swap.
At the end of installion,lenny installed grub on (hd0) that is 1st primary.
Everything seems OK.Lenny runs OK.
But when I switch back to windows xp,the diskmgmt can not detect hdd's info and the system meets a problem of shutting down.
After many times of trying.
I solved the problem by the following way.
1.Boot with windows xp's install CD and use fixmbr on (hd0).
2.Boot with lenny's install DVD , do a grub>root (1,0)>setup (hd1)
After that,edit /boot/grub/menu.lst and change (hd0,0) to (hd1,0) and also (hd1,0) to (hd0,0).
3.Reboot and Press F8 for a boot menu then I can select which disk to boot.
windows boot from 1st primary's mbr,lenny boot from lenny's grub.
The problem is caused by a bug between GRUB and windows' mbr and maybe more about GRUB and XFS.

Feb 21, 2010so i have a main drive (320gb) which currently has kubuntu 9.04 installed.i also have a side drive (60gb) on which i made a backup of all my windows files (i wanted to migrate to new windows OS but messed up, long stupid story...) and also had opensuse 11.0 installed.now when i open either 2 linux versions, the ntfs partition isnt recognised anymore.there are files on it that i need, including the iso of the windows version i want to install next to opensuse (just like my old windows version)

Jun 4, 2011I have installed Ubuntu 11.04 64 bit desktop version on ext4 partition without swap. I have maximus iv extreme motherboard with 8 Gbytes RAM. Using 3 internal ntfs formatted hard drives and 3 external ntfs usb 2.0 hard drives.When I am trying to copy or move files FROM or TO any ntfs partiton it is 90 percent chance it is going to freeze.For copy/moving files I am using krusader run as ROOT or as user without root privilege or Nautilus as user without root privilege. It wasn't possible to switch to another terminal - it simply does not react on keyboard or mouse input and only hard reset is possible (scares me because of ntfs disks)From this point of view I have suspicious on ntfs driver but:I am completely beginner in linux and I am looking for help to navigate me how to investigate to find what is causing the problem eventually to solve it?
According to my experience it seems to does not matter if hard disk is internal or external connected through SATA II or SATA III or USB 2.0. I have tried to manipulate with ntfspartitions through the vmware or virualbox or truecrypt software or just do a simplecopy/move files - it have has always the same results - freeze. There is not possible to say how long it is going to work properly and when it is going to freeze - sometimes it's working hour, sometimes it's working couple of seconds - no matter if it is read or write operation/s within ntfs partition.

Apr 22, 2010I used QParted to size one my hard drive's NTFS partition to make unallocated space available to install SUSE. QParted created the the unalloacted space fine and I got SUSE up and running.
However, the NTFS partition is messed up. The QParted GUI and the SUSE's Disk management GUI shows it as NTFS drive with 319 GB space. However, nothing seem to be able to read/write to it. QParted gives a warning "Unable to read contents of this file system! Because of this some operations maybe unavailable." Is there any way to fix this NTFS partition so I can recover data from it?

Even the windows version I had is 7, the NTFS partition I want to access for writing, comes from a previous XP install. Is there a way to have "write" access for data stored in NTFS? I recall an install I had on a laptop with Windows XP and Ubuntu... and Ubuntu was able to write on NTFS; would it be possible in OpenSuse?

Mar 23, 2011im looking for a command for mounting an ntfs partition. what i want to do is to put that command to the "after startup applications" option. that's because that ntfs partition is my storage partition, i play steam games [win7 dualboot, thats why that partition is ntfs], download movies etc. in my places menu, its called 190GB Filesystem, and when i click it, it mounts up. but that means i have to click it everytime i boot up, because vuze can't locate the files if it isnt mounted.

In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows
then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very important! If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g. /dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation for more details.
