i used the terminal command: 'wine /media/INSTALL/install.exe' and I got "Please insert the CD labelled 'install Disc'" (even though the install disc was in the drive. I even tried the other discs. I tried searching another thread on another forum where a Fedora user had the same problem, which was solved, but it doesn't work for me for some reason.

I'm trying to install files and everytime I manage to install from the first disc I succeed. When I get the the second disc I just keep clicking the "OK" button instead of "Cancel" and it keeps neglecting it.

I downloaded the ISO for version 11.4-i586 DVD size from DirectLink on opensuse.org. I checked the Windows MD5CHECKSUM and verifyied it. The installation goes fine until it begins installing packages when it prompts:
"Insert Disc 1"
Which I believe is the Disc that I burned already with the ISO file and is in the DVD-ROM drive that it's asking for. This happens for several files, and prompt me to either
retry/skip/abort/cancel
If I click Retry I get "media1.media not found" or a similar message. If I click Abort/Skip/Cancel the installation stops and takes me to a text version of the installation which then stops and says that it can not find the Installation Package either.
I have looked for reasons behind this but all I could find was possibly Mounting the DVD-ROM but the installatin runs fine until it begins looking for specific files and says it can't find the files on the Disc, even though it's in the DVD drive.
I installed openSUSE 11.3 on my iMac along with "Mac Snow Leopard, Windows 7" to make it a "Triple Boot". But after installing the "GRUB/LILO", it does not chain with the boot loader "REFIT" that I use. Each time I try to boot into "Windows/openSUSE", it shows a message: no boot device found, insert boot disc". So why isn't the "GRUB/LILO" working?
View 4 Replies View RelatedOkay, so bear with me for the lack of detail, its 3:46am and I'm really a beginner at this. So here is my issue: I decided I wanted to try Linux, so i got a Disc Image of Opensuse 11.3. while burning this disc image to a DVD-R I had no issues. But after the Validation was done an error appeared stating the disc Image was not burnt due to some error (apologies for not paying too close attention here) although the entire burn completed without issue. So I closed it and figured I would try again with another Disk when i get one.
Well as it turns out I did burn the Disc Image, and decided to try the Install. I have previously installed Ubuntu a few times and figured it was just as easy.. so I restarted my computer and booted from the CD. went through the Installation up to the Partition part.. This kind of confused me at first but I eventually got that it wanted to shrink my existing windows partition in order to make room. so i went along with it and began the install. well about halfway through the installation error messages kept showing telling me there were missing Packs. after about 10 messages I aborted the install for fear of what would happen now i have a shrunken partition and i dont know how to fix or what to do. I would still like to install opensuse but i dont have anymore DVD-R's and my Flash drive is too small. I will try to provide any info i can upon request. Oh, I forgot to mention im Running windows 7. if that helps at all which I doubt it does. I can safely access windows, nothing happened to the information on my drive. Im just missing 50GB of space now.
I have just installed 11.3 x64. The installation went fine and worked for the first few hours. I ran the online update tool, and now it cannot find grub unless the installation disc is inserted and I select the "boot from hard disc" option.
I have read about the problem of the root partition being back, but not sure that's it.

There used to be a repair tool in the installation disks. I could not find that in this media. Is that still available?
i type wine /media/install/install.exe and it asks me to insert the install disc, when i do so it pops up over and over again. i don't know what's wrong it worked on my older version of ubuntu, now i have the latest and can't get it to work
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running 64-bit Fedora 12, and am trying to install Diablo 1 through Wine. I installed wine from Yum, installed Diablo fine, but when I try to run it I get this message: wine: '/home/obriem5/.wine' is a 32-bit prefix, it cannot be used with wow64 Wine. On a side note, I tried installing Diablo using the guide given here, but received errors when trying to use the patch. (i.e, instead of seeing 'Hunk #1 succeeded', etc, I see 'Hunk #1 failed', etc.)
View 2 Replies View RelatedToday, I was downloading some stuff from online. I left for a few minutes and came back to find that someone had hit my loose power cord, causing the computer to restart. When I completed the reboot (It always says "Insert system disk and press enter" after checking CD drives), and had it load OpenSuSE 11.3 Failsafe (Regular won't work for me), it loaded into Teal (BASH, Command Prompt, Kommand, whatever you want to call it). At first, I thought maybe I screwed up and told it to load into that. But, I tried again, and it did the same. I tried using Non-Failsafe, and got the same results. I am able to edit, add, or remove programs from the Linux partition, though.

Im getting warning messages saying that I only have about 75 MB left on linux. Windows has lots of space available (especially the "d" partition which I use for storing stuff in like music and video) but I do not know how to "claim" that partition for for Suse.

I need to keep Windows as the machine is not "officially" mine, and so might need to go back at some point to a Windows user. All my normal Windows access is via VirtualBox. I have made my Windows partitions as small as possible, and now have an empty D partition as follows:
It's the D* partition that I would like to add to my home directory. Is there an easy way of doing this, or am I looking at a complete re-install of openSUSE?
I have three drives on my system and I want to put 11.4 on the third drive. My BIOS can select which drive I am going to boot from. I don't want my Windows 7 or Windows XP drives included in grub or grub to over write/install the bootloader on any other drive except the one I am installing 11.4 on how do I do that?

I have been running ONLY linux (ubuntu) on my computer for years now. However, a friend sucked me back into the world of MMO's (angry fist @ RIFT). So, I decided to pick up a new disc, slap windows 7 on it and now want to dual boot.Basically I had to do some disc juggling to get windows to play nice. So my windows drive is now first, then my Ubuntu drive second.Its been a while so I'm wondering how involved / what would be the steps to get grub2 to chainload into windows7 (in my head I want to say I'm going to boot into the live cd, mount the windows disc and reinstall the loader to the windows drive since its the first disc in the chain?)

View 3 Replies View RelatedI bought a t770.uk HP desktop PC, which came without a Hard drive as the pervious owner had removed it for security reasons. A week later I got a hold of a brand new - out of an anti-static sealed bag - compatible Western Digital Caviar SE 80GB SATA150 7200 HDD, and installed it as directed by my t770.uk manual. Up until now, things looked to be on a roll. As I don't have any windows OS, I figured Ubunutu would be the way to go (and it certainly is from what I've heard and read about it. I can't wait!).
So I sent off for a CD and it popped through my mail a few weeks back. The problem that I am having is after booting past a very brief view of the HP POST screen, the screen goes black with the error "Disc boot failure-insert system disk and press enter". I've tried placing the Ubuntu disc in (assuming it is asking for that? An OS disc) and restarting, and changing the boot order around, but no matter what I do the error persists and I can't install Ubuntu. I really want to get this PC running with Ubuntu.
I did a fresh install of SuSE 11.4 (WIN7 TOO) and changed my Larger HD1 to the first HD. I am not able to install 11.3 x86_64 on an OCZ 120 GB Agility 2 SSD. I receive a system error -3030 when it tries to format the drive. If I use go into rescue mode and either format or partition the drive, the installer crashes.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI would like to test 12.1 M5 on my real hardware, so I have special for this purpose two additional partitions (sda2 (to install milestone) and sda3 (to store installation ISO files)). I am running my stable 11.4 with Grub on sda1.
I do not like to burn DVDs just for short test of one milestone, so I was used to download DVD ISO, to unpack it to sda3 partition with all its files, then I changed Grub to boot install Linux from sda3. Installation complains there is no DVD or CD, then I chose to force installation from hard disk and select sda3 partition and select root directory "/". As I was used to from 11.4 this will start installation as it would be started from DVD.
But I think the problem has appeared since 12.1, where I get message: No repository found. (on sda3 / ), so the installation does not start.
I know this is not official way to install openSuse, but it worked before, and it was fast and easy for me, to install from hard disk.
After a disk crash I reinstalled openSuSE 11.2 and as always downloaded the latest Nvidia driver for my geforce 8200 graphics.
Unlike all previous cases, this time the driver does not install. The contents of /var/log/nvidia-installer.log are below. The error refers to being unable to to locate version.h

md2 swap
or my problem, after configuration and install over the dvd and yast installation menu, after the first reboot I have a grub error -> nothing found.If i try to setup suse 11.2 over the same method, it works.after a system upgrade to 11.3 all is working fine. The only problem is by installing directly the 11.3 I also re-download the dvd and try over the netcd and it's all the time the same error.I searched in the forum but nothing found (perhaps i do a wrong search)

I have been having a problem with my 11.1 recently, in that it gets stuck at a point in the boot process that tells me "INIT cannot execute /bin/sh" then it says "INIT: id 1 is respawning too fast please wait 5 minutes" and tells me there are no more preocesses in this runlevel and repeats this no matter how long I wait. Since I couldnt find any information on fixing that, I decided to just upgrade to 11.3 with a boot disc. Now my computer wont recognize the disc to boot from it and still gets stuck at the same screen.
