I've got a fresh install of 11.3 on a x64 machine. I've managed to work through most of the initial hiccups and get a smooth system.However I've noticed that the 'System Logs' option in YAST is missing. Has anyone else noticed this? Is there some supplimental package that I should install? If it was removed from 11.3, is there an easy way to find and read these logs?
View 7 RepliesI agree that this is a problem in making every NTFS partition a boot selection option in your grub menu.lst file during the installation of openSUSE. Someone should consider asking help from please_try_again in the openSUSE forums on how to find a bootable Windows partition and add that fuction to the openSUSE installer. Looking for Grub and Windows bootloader in all partitions.The basic situation is that there is normally is only ONE booting copy of Windows, so why would you create three or four menu entries due to the number of NTFS partitions found on a hard drive? Finally, just as indicated by Jean-Daniel Dodin, If one of those partitions in the restore partition and a user boots it, it could be all over for the user copy of Windows, for the openSUSE install and for ever getting this user to try openSUSE again.
on opensuse 11.1, i was able to see my system logs using yast. but on opensuse 11.3 i'm not able to find it

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen using the Yast partitioner to partition a USB stick, I noticed there was no option for the ntfs format, but has the fat option. Is this a missing functionality/lib or by design? I have all of the ntfs stuff installed. I used to use gparted for this, but decided to make my self use the Yast tools. I like to keep them in ntfs format to get around the 4GB data transfer limit and have them readable by Linux and Windows.

Now I'm noticing that applications are missing from (pacman) repo, but when I browse the repo with firefox, the rpms are there, they're just not being found by a yast search... Both mplayer and kdelnive are not found by yast. There are probably others...

I hate having to configure the firewall, runlevels, samba shares, samba workgroup, apparmor, and all the other junk after every install. It's not like I install often, but should suse 11.5 or 12 roll out, I'd like it to be a snappy upgrade.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am relatively new at Linux and am having some problems with an install of openSUSE 11.2. I installed 11.2 on my Thinkpad X31 dual boot with WinXP. It seems to work very well except the network. I looked up swerdna's instructions on setting network cards up. I used YaST to try and set the system up as described in swerdna's instructions. Everything looks fine my network card and wireless card show up in the overview settings screen and everything sets up fine. But when I exit YaST the network doest show up no icon in the system tray and it doesn't even try to connect.
I did go into hardware to see if it was identifying my hardware and my network card shows up as "Thinkpad R40" and the wireless shows up as Cisco Aironet Wireless 802.11b. As far as I know this is correct. I have tried three other distro's and this one has gotten the closest to working so far.
It used to be that the dvd menu offered an option to "repair the installed system". THis was really very convenient. The openSUSE 11.3 dvd for x86 now only gives a "system rescue" option which leads to command line directl. Where have been "the repair the installed system" tools? How can we access them now? What is a reasonable set of tips that's supposed to be used after logging into "system rescue"?

Should there be an option to download an ISO option for a CD installation on this page along with the DVD version? Some of our older machines can only read CD's with a max size of 500+ megs.

No more, and I see that everyone leaves the option, as in version 11.2, to "System Restore / Repair System" Is there any way to get it? I need to repair GRUB, as I appear, I had it in a logical partition and therefore I have GRUB errors, since the re-installation of windows and then deleting it, I thought of this. Any way to get this option by the Live CD or what? Is it a BUG in version 11.3?
I have downloaded Kubuntu 11.04 Desktop ISO. When I fire up Wubi then there is no Install inside Windows option! Why?

So my question is what exactly does removing and applying the Gnome pattern do. Because it seems to change alot more than just branding. It changes the default environment to GTK. How would go about reverting the pattern back to KDE after the install of all the correct Gnome Dependencies.

Is it not possible to get it from YaST in the same way as you can in Synaptic? It would not only be nice to see a basic list, but also what has been pulled in as dependencies and have it grouped by 'installation sets'. Too much to ask?
I don't know why this is happening, however, all of a sudden I am unable to install any packages (from OpenSUSE repos of course) using either Zypper from the CLI or YaST2. Every time I try and install anything, or perfom a zypper dup, I am greeted with the below error message.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install OpenSUSE on an external usb drive but when I boot from USB, all I get is a message saying "Missing Operating System". I've tried different ways of partitioning the drive either by letting OpenSUSE do it automatically or doing it myself. It's just a basic partitioning scheme, with swap on one partition sdb2 and the rest on root sdb1 .
I made sure to have GRUB be installed on the root partition of sdb (usb drive) instead of in the MBR (I've installed Fedora and Ubuntu on usb drives this way).
I get the following error when YAST tries to install the latest updates----Subprocess failed. Error: RPM failed: error: db3 error(-30987) from dbcursor->c_get: DB_PAGE_NOTFOUND: Requested page not found error: error(-30987) getting "" records from Requireversion index----could it be from removing KWALLET? The Vuze package needs the swt libraries pre-installed, so download that one first. In just two clicks, you'll have the latest version of Vuze installed by YaST on your system! Is it possible to configure Yast Software Manager module so that it does not completely exit when done installing a package? It get's annoying to search for a package and install it, the software manager exits, you then have to reopen it, install another etc. a few minutes later.
Seems this would be a config option, but if so I can't seem to find it.
I cannot open YaST nor 'install software' in the GUI. A new window is appears in the panel, but after 10 seconds or so it disappears. When in terminal, i can open YaST.
This happens from time to time and often after a while I can open it again in GUI (also when rebooting). It's very annoying when I want to install something and I cannot open Yast2 (I'm not familiar with terminal, so that's why i want to stay with GUI, which is KDE btw).

During and post installation there were neither of those languages available.
As I have had some problems using kpagager I've used file asociations to set yast as the default. When I download an rpm the yast icon bounces around for a while and then dies. I assume this means I need another set of yast launch instructions. Suppose I could download to a directory and set it as a repo but would rather just have it launch for rpms as it's quicker. 11.4 KDE 4.6.0

Now i can suf the internet with a browser but YAST is still unable to access the repositories which are accessible with a browser. Can someone please help me what the problem with YAST is?
