My CPU has 2.19GHz (2190.000kHz)
but linux runs to fast if i watch the time 1 minute (real time) = 5 minutes (linux)
i checked the cpu freq with

I have a Dell Precision M6400 laptop with an Intel Core2 Duo 2.8 GHz processor.I have set Power Management to performance when on AC power and have also written a script that calls cpufreq-set to set the lower and upper limits to 2.80 GHz (cpufreq-info output below).However, sometimes when doing some heavy work the frequency suddenly gets reduced to 1.60 GHz on both cores and I cannot set them back to 2.80 GHz using the script (cpufreq-set says errors occurred). Performance is then totally gone and I have to reboot. The same script then works fine after a reboot.What is setting the lower limit back down to 1.60 GHz even though I set it to 2.80 GHz using my script? How can I stop/configure this or prevent it from happening?

During install, I can configure it but I now want something different. I thought that there was a topic with yast under software but no. Only "online update" which basically give me manual update. I click on configure but same screen appears.

Now both work fine with other products (9500GT works fine on my other display and my Windows laptop works fine with the syncmaster 570). I also installed nvidia drivers via yast2. But how do I change the frequency? I've been trying to solve the problem for hours. Oh yeah when I connect my 570b to my 9500gt, I sometimes get a picture and sometimes don't. However when I get a picture colors are very strange and it flickers hardly.
I am looking for a daemon that will set the CPU to lower frequency if its temperature is going too high. I used an application like this in Windows.

Once I click the cpu applet icon, The whole applet just freeze right there. Does not matter if what I do with it. Well, at least I hope some one just offer me a bit help on how to lock the cpu frequency in terminal. Other wise I can not run Folding@home due to cooling issue.

In the Firewall case, once I type in my password, the whole window just went blank. For the cpu applet case, nothing happen, the window ask for password does not show up. nothing. The system log did not have any entry...neither does the crash log. Which there are lot of entry there since I install F12
I am not entirely convinced that my CPU is actually changing frequency as it is meant to. It sometimes changes frequency, but most of the time it is stuck on 800MHz even when doing cpu intensive tasks. Here is information that may or may not be of help:

I notice here that it says between 800 and 800, but does that mean it is currently at 800, or can only be 800.
how to lock the CPU frequency under Fedora 15. I try to run cpufreq comand but the terminal tells me the comand is bad and ask me if I want to install the program. When I click yes. It says the program has already been installed. While I try to use software manager under GUI, same thing happend. Software manager clearly tells me I have not install that program. But once I choose to install, the system tells me all package has been install?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a n2pap-lite motherboard with a AMD Sempron 2800+. My host clock is at 133mhz when it needs to at least be at 166mhz to be a AMD Sempron 2800+... I installed the system on 100mhz clock not thinking that it mattered.

It says on guides that it will ask me to reboot but it doesn't, so I manually did it and put the CPU Frequency Monitor on my taskbar. It does not have the options like it shows in the screenshots to set my CPU frequency..

I'm running ubuntu 11.04 with a Pentium T2060 1.6ghz. Ubuntu only lets it go up to 1.2ghz. And no its not a cpu power saving feature. In Windows it gets to 1.6ghz fine

It won't change the speed to what I tell it to. I click on a different speed and it does nothing.
The CPU spins too slowly and videos lag or it spins at full speed and overheats even though I have nothing open! I really need to be able to adjust it.

To try and prevent auth.log rotating daily and change it to monthly but it doesnt seem to work.

I have previous use karmic koala and the version before that (cant remember the name for that) on my old computer and now I am using ubuntu 10.4 on my new computer. Ever since I installed Ubuntu for the first time, I noticed that the sound quality wasn't... the best. There isn't so much wrong with it, but like that this example. I played a FLAC file with some headphones (thru Ubuntu) and the sound quality sucked.. and then I played a mp3 file (with an ipod) and the sound quality was much much much better than the FLAC file.
I tired to play an HD movie over ....., where on Windows XP it sounds perfect, but with Ubuntu it kinda sux. The MP3 (Ipod / windows XP) is still better, than anything that is being played in Ubuntu. This is with almost every sound format I have tried. No matter if I play it with Rythmbox or vlc or some other player, the sound is wrong. I cant describe how it sounds.. but it is like it is going with a low frequency... or it is compress some how... Ever since I tried Ubuntu for the first time Ive noticed that something was wrong, but couldn't never really put my finger on it. I have dual-booted with windows XP and the sound in XP is really, really good compared to Ubuntu.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am doing a project on how power consumption of a CPU can be improved by underclocking the lower P-states and overclocking the highest p-state.In this way you can increase both the performance of the chip and it's average power usage (assuming you don't run the chip at 100% 24/7).
To do this project I need to be able to change the voltage and frequency of the chip for all of the different p-states of the chip. On Windows I can use k10stat, RMClock or AMD Overdrive.
What can I use in Linux? I found k10ctl, but it always complained about not being able to find /dev/cpu/0, so I looked in /dev and noticed that their isn't even a cpu directory in there!
I have a moderate amount of experience so I don't mind changing kernels or doing other hard tasks to get this to work.
A week ago, after some daily update, my cpu frequency monitor stopped working, i'm stuck with 800 mhz now Yesterday i upgraded to 10.10 version, but this applet still doesn't work. or maybe there are alternative programs that change cpu frequency as well? I was looking in software center, but found only monitors so far.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using the latest kernel and after I boot up my computer the cpu governor changes from the fastest setting (2ghz) to the slowest setting (800mhz), and gets stuck there. Theres no obvious way to change the setting, the gnome applet to change the cpu frequency doesn't work - I've also tried to change the setting manually through the /sys/ directory but to no avail.
There was a suggestion to fallback on an older kernel, but my older kernels suffer from the same bug.Does anybody have any ideas? I can provide more information on request.
I'm not sure if this is an issue with Ubuntu or with the BIOS. Basically when I start up my computer, the ondemand governor seems to work just fine (ranging from 800 MHz to 2200 MHz). However after some indeterminate amount of time, it will get stuck at 800 MHz and I'm not able to figure out how to get it to scale properly again.
When I restart my computer, it acts normal again for some time before locking in at the lowest frequency.
It seems like it may be related to this post: [URL]. The last post in that thread mentioned that it could be related to the temperature, that may be the case in my situation. Even if the temperature is low after it locks to the lowest frequency, it won't increase the speed as needed
My question is, is there any way to override this and let the CPU continue to run at higher frequencies once it locks down to the lowest frequency? My computer doesn't feel like it's getting that hot (it's a laptop), and I'd like to not have to be able to restart it every time this happens.
On the weekend I installed and played Crayon Physics Deluxe, and when I closed it it caused some graphics problems. I thought nothing of it and shut down the system. When I next booted the computer it gave a warning about hard disk erros at first, then rebooted, and then just gave me an out of frequency error right after the BIOS splash screen.
As I did not know what to do and where to look for the root of the problem I eventually set up the system (Ubuntu 11.04) anew, and even completely formatted the partitions for / and /home, so that absolutely everything should have been as it was on day one. But since then, even though the partition for / had actually been deleted and then created anew, instead of the Ubuntu splash screen I continue to get this out of frequency error until the login manager appears. And what's much worse, I get it immediately as soon as I switch to any console with Ctrl + Alt + F2 or any other, so I cannot use any console.
Then yesterday Skype had a crash, and again the whole thing started, after rebooting I only got the out of frequency error, nothing else. So I set the system up again, but the situation is still the same, the out of frequency error up to the login screen remains, and it also remains on the consoles.
There is no problem whatsoever with any system booted from CD. As all actual data had been wiped during the reinstall, I suppose that the problem must be connected with grub 2, some misconfiguration in the boot loader - but I have no idea how to check or change what's there.
The graphics adapter is a GeForce 7025 with nvidia driver 270.41.06. The Ubuntu setup offers two drivers, this is the older one apparently, but it's the same thing with the newer one. The monitor is a PKB Viseo 230Ws at 1920x1080 pixels, H 67 kHz and V 60 Hz.

I've tried all of them but the error is the same. I also rebooted to the huge kernel, however, it gave me the same error.
My AMD processor is a 5200 + and has its minimum frequency at 1GHz.
The ferquencias are used by cpufreq: 2700 Mhz, 2600 Mhz, 2400 Mhz, 2200 Mhz, 2000 Mhz, 1800 Mhz and 1000 Mhz .
My question is:
How could I tell for cpufreq use 1800Mhz as my minimum frequency?

I've recently reinstalled a computer with 10.04 for my parents to use, and it worked fine at mine, but after transporting it to theirs and hooking it up to their existing monitor it doesn't seem to work anymore!Well, it boots and I hear it login but I don't get a splash screen and at some point between the bios and the login sound it comes up with Frequency out of Range. On the warning message it displays a frequency of "72.9 kHz / 90.2 Hz" but in the monitor settings its reporting that its operating at horizontal 64,0 kHz and vertical 60.0 Hz. I also don't get any splash screen when starting up, just a flashing _ before the monitor stops things
What I can do however is drop into a the tty console (alt+ctrl+1) and login to the shell but don't really know what things to change from there.Having googled things a bit I've found references to xorg.conf but there's no such thing on my system so I can't edit that to fix this. Likewise I also have found references to fiddling with grub to get into the recovery, but grub doesn't even appear when I boot and I don't know what to press to get it to drop into its menu...
This is really urgent as I need to go home tomorrow at the latest and I want to get my parents system working before then. I also have no spare monitors here and I didn't think to bring with me a liveCD to fiddle with things (only a UNR netbook which I'm posting this from), so the console is the only access I have to the machine.Some specs: Ubuntu 10.04. ATi Radeon 9100 IGP, no proprietary drivers are installed. The monitor is an old CRT that still works beautifully and whose replacement is not an option.
Question: Installation had me entering my password many times, seemed like for most everything I did during install & setting up the desktops. It was a little frustrating compared to what I was used to with Ubuntu. I know this frequency will reduce once settled in although Linux and "fiddling" go together so some will continue. When using Ubuntu I was able to set that up to bypass some password need, not all. I was hoping there are options for that with Debian but my efforts all day yesterday failed to find any. I am not looking to eliminate password use entirely and I don't expect it to be just like Ubuntu either, however...
My main areas of frequent password use that are new to me with Debian Squeeze are:
1)All partition mounting. Using Ubuntu I edited fstab using a tool called "Storage Device Manager" so that only myself, not "users", had full read-write access to all partitions at boot time. However, none of those fstab codes or any new ones that I tried seemed to work in Squeeze. Besides Squeeze, I have two ntfs and one ext3 partition to access. Example: my music files are on an ntfs partition and I have to enter a password to listen to music.
2)Opening a root nautilus folder. In Ubuntu I made a custom application launcher with "gksu nautilus" and that gives you a no-password one-click access. In Squeeze, I enter a password every time.
3)Reboot & Shutdown. This one surprised me. Every reboot or shutdown requires my password unless I logout first but that adds a step. It may have something to do with a second desktop I installed (kde), I'm not sure. I tried making a script linked to an application launcher that runs "init 0" but that asked for my password too.
I'd like to be able to do 1,2 & 3 above without password entry other than maybe at the main log-in.
About me: This is my first post here, and am trying to be courteous. I checked the DebWiki, Google & this forum for answers. I found a little about ntfs partitions and saved it to a file. My situation is a Debian beginner but using Ubuntu for 7 or 8 months. My technical skills are mid-range. I use Debian on a newer dell laptop with Intel chipset and Intel CPU, triple booting Windows 7, Ubuntu 10.10 and Debian-Sqeeze-di-rc1-amd64. I installed using DVD #1, and made a local repository with DVD 1&2 and added a second kde desktop. Gnome Debian is my favorite now, it runs very well and will probably replace Ubuntu as my primary OS. Everything works that I can tell, except the Software Sources GUI does not load but I go into the source.list file and edit it manually.
