OpenSUSE :: FireFTP Can't Delete Local Files?
Jul 7, 2011
i've used the firefox add-on FireFTPseveral years and like it a lot...simple and handy..but the version 1.99.4 loaded on my openSUSE 11.4 is unable to deleteocal files..previous versions, a right click on a local file and select "Delete"would result in the file being deleted...current version: same action results in a pop-up error "Unable to deletefile." _and_ the creation, in the local directory of a new sub-directory/home, it including an empty sub-directory /.Trashi'd wish another user to confirm that undesired action and join my bug

Can I just go in a delete all the files in tmp? Or, do I need to be more careful? I noticed that a lot of flv fragments go in there. I did just delete those because I couldn't see how they could be useful again. What about all the other stuff?

I can't delete any files bigger than 4 Go. I got a message telling me that my trash is full and I should empty it. But there is nothing in it. Is there any thing I can do to be able to delete files over 4 Go?

I noticed in my system that my root partition is getting full. I found a lot of old compacted syslogfiles. Had a look at etc/sysconfig editor eg cron but could not find a setting which allows to delete files older than a month. Where and how could I influence this ? I deleted manually all syslog files older than a month. Approx 6GB

I have 2 folders that are synced using rsync. Right now if I delete a file in the source folder, the destination folder still retains that file. Is there a way to get rsync to delete files if they were deleting at the source?I could not find anything in the man page.not sure if I'm missing something or if that feature just doesn't exist.

I am trying to use an old box as backup server. I have tried a couple of possibilities along the lines of:
Quote:
rsync -a --delete --progress --log-file=/home/$USER/info.txt -e ssh /home /etc root@192.168.0.106:/mnt/back
The problem is it does not delete files that has been removed from my local system?
I run the command as root on the local system.
(I realize I should properly not ssh into the server as the server's root but I'm having trouble with the permissions and I want to make sure everything else works before messing around with it)

One of Konqueror's unique features is that i can name a local process as the action in a form. When i submit that form, the local process is executed. Very helpful for certain offline tasks. What would make it even better is if i could find a way to pass some data to that local process from the html page. This could be the content of a hidden input item, etc. Alternatively, if there is a way for Konqueror to create or update a local file with data from the html page, that would acheive the same end.

Should I be able to transfer files between computers wired to the same router? Is the router bridging function used to transfer data between wired computers? I just got DSL and I'm new to networking. I have openSuse 11.4 on two computers plugged into a Belkin router. The internet connection to my ISP works from either computer. If I ping $HOSTNAME from either computer, the hostnames are different, but the IP address is the same which is that of my ISP. I only have the one router, but it has a bridging option. I don't know if it can do both bridging and routing simultaneously.

I just can't stand knowing that there's a slight problem with my PC.I have roughly 12.5 Gigs of files, mostly movies that are multiple clones of a particular movie (which was an entirely different problem altogether) and I CANNOT DELETE THESE THINGS! There has to be a simple way to do it from terminal, problem is, I can't seem to find the trash directory in terminal.

KDE 4.6 - opensuse 11.4.
I have a separate ext4 partition which contains all my data (music, movies, etc). When I delete files from this partition it is very slow because it copies files from my data partition to the Trash folder in my home partition. How can I avoid this? Can't the trash be configured so that it uses a trash folder in each partition instead of copying files to another partition (which is slow).

I had been copying "vmkd" files all of which are very large (11gig) each and later deleted them and it appears some I had deleted using "root" I reached a point when it couldn't do it and it said it couldn't because trash bin was full. Sure enough I found my root partition (20gigs) was full. I went root and emptied its trash bin which freed up about (4gigs) of space. I just set up a new system (11.2) on another drive and have setup it up with exactly the same programs as the system I'm having a problem with and the new systems root partition only has (6gigs) in the root partition. Question; how do I clean out my problem root partition?

I am using FC11 and have an external USB drive attached which was originally formatted and used with OS X. I'm pretty sure it's an HFS+ filesystem, but fdisk-l simply reports "unknown". I moved a ton of files to it from an older OS X drive, including a bunch of backups that were done with Time Machine in OS X.
Now I've moved them all back to where I want them (onto an EXT2 formatted drive) and I'm trying to clear those Time Machine files off the HFS+. The drive will ultimately be used with a Mac, so I don't want to wipe the whole disk (aside from the fact I have a ton of other stuff on there that I don't want to move).
The problem is that I cannot get FC11 to delete the Time Machine files. When I try to delete the top level folder ('rm -rf topfolder'), the command looks like it's running (and goes load crazy on the CPU), but I left it running all night, then cancelled it this morning, no files were deleted. It just sits there. When I try to delete folders a little lower in the tree using 'rm -rf myfolder' I get an error telling me the folder is not empty. When I go down to the lowest level folder, I can only find DS_Store and .localized files in it. The properties are rather odd... output of ls -als is this:

I'm setting up a single stand-alone computer in my classroom to be used by my students at the school where I teach. I've installed Ubuntu, as it smashes Windoze out of the court every time.
I want the students to be able to log on to the computer using just one account: 'Student'. This computer will be attached to a printer so they can type up and print oOfice documents, web pages, etc. However, once they log out, I want any files they might have saved (such as a word processed document) to be removed/deleted from the account so that when another pupil logs on to the 'Student' account they start with a clean slate. I suppose you could call it a sort-of Kiosk account.
How can I get Ubuntu to clear any saved documents on log-out?

I am using Ubuntu 10.04. I have a small HDD and I noticed that the weight of the folder .Trash-0/lost+found on my computer was of 2.6 gb.
I tried to delete the files in this folder, but it seems impossible. Even with using sudo I can't delete them because I am not authorized to do so. The files in the folder are quite weird, there are folder and files named like this: #7614692, #7613635 etc. Their groups and their users are also quite weird: -1933023744, 1624453254... Even from a live cd it is not possible to delete them. Also the date of the files is ****ed up, example:
- last access: "mar. 13 juil. 1943 15:26:11 CEST"
- last modification: "mer. 12 oct. 2022 15:59:51 CEST"
I recently upgraded this partition from ext3 to ext4, so I would guess that it comes from here. But I don't know if these files where there before or not.

I've got a computer with numerous media files,(video and music). It's a dual boot Windows XP , Ubuntu 10.04 install.I use it as a media box for my large LCD TV. I was wondering if anyone else has deleted the Windows system files and program folders and left the media files. Edit grub deleting Windows XP and leaving the large number of media files alone. I don't want to spend the time to backup and transfer, as it would be to time consuming. I don't want to bork the system just to clean out XP.

I have recently done a clean install of Ubuntu 10.04 [and it is all going very nicely unlike some others] on my dual boot Dell Dimension 5100.After seeing some advice about advanced partitioning I decided to expand my partition table during the 10.04 install process from swap, / and /home (where I keep My Documents) to swap, /, /home, /var, /tmp and /usr, all of which was achieved without problem.I am now getting "Low Disk Space" messages on my home partition (488 MB remaining!!!) I have emptied the trash and cleaned up any obviously large but surplus files. (I did find two that concern me but they aren't HUGE and I am unsure of what they do: file-meta.db and file-index.db in /home/john/.cache/tracker/ which are 290 MB and 108 MB respectively, last modified five months ago and something to do with SQLite3.)
Anyway, am I right in saying that my new /var, /tmp and particularly /usr partitions now contain some of what was previously held on / and /home, leaving old files that can be removed? If so, what is now surplus and how do I delete it safely? I had a bit of a dig but, as the properties in Nautilus of, for example, /usr do not indicate what partition it is on, I can't safely tell what is current and what is old.
