OpenSUSE Hardware :: 11.3 Fresh Install From DVD Did Not Recognize Internal Bluetooth

Jul 28, 2010

When I tried to upgrade via DVD I had numerous problems and most of them were fixed by installing with automatic configuration. My laptop is a Pavilion dv2000. I added on the bluetooth 2.1 Internal module and it worked perfect in 11.2.

Anyway, bluez won't start and the bluetooth hardware is not recognized by USB.

OpenSUSE Network :: NetworkManager Doesn't Update Resolv.conf

Apr 20, 2011

In previous openSUSE versions I was using WICD as network manager. I upgraded my openSUSE to 11.4 and resolved give a try to the NetworkManager. I can get network connection, but the dhcp doesn't update the /etc/resolv.conf, so I can't navigate because the dns isnt set.

I tried to reinstall all related packages (dhcp, dns and networkmanager) without success.

If I run dhcpcd the resolv.conf get updated, but dhclient doesn't do the same. It seems that's a dhclient script issues, but I don't know how to test.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: NetworkManager Doesn't Configure Default Route And Nameserve

Nov 15, 2009

yesterday I installed openSUSE 11.2 on my laptop. But I'm having problem getting the wifi configured properly. During the installation I got the message "No network running" (which I also saw after the installation when using the network configuration module of YaST after switching from ifup to NetworkManager). After installation NetworkManager seemed to work fine, it detected my wifi card, found the network, and I could even connect to it. Then the problems began, no Internet connection. The first thing I tried was pinging Google which yielded an "unknown host" message. So I checked /etc/resolv.conf, to look for the DNS servers, which where missing.

I added them manually and tried again. Still no luck, so I started pinging my router, which worked, tried again pinging Google using one of there IP addresses, which failed. So I ran route to find out which routes where being used, this one gave an unexpected result, because it only showed the route to the local network (I'm not sure about the loopback one, because this was also a lot of times missing when testing):

OpenSUSE :: Banshee Doesn't Recognize Ipod?

Nov 14, 2009

I've just installed openSUSE 11.2 (with Gnome). Everything works fine except the Ipod support in Banshee (Ver. 1.6 Beta 2).

When I connect my Ipod Video 30GB to my Computer it is recognised in openSUSE and also a new Nautilus windows with the Ipod content is opened. But in Banshee there is no Ipod button or anything else which allows me to sync my music with Ipod.

I've already tried to delete the /home/{user}/.config/banshee-1 folder and installed the banshee-1-dmp-ipod package. The Ipod plugin (Ver. 1.0) is also installed in Banshee.

OpenSUSE Install :: VMWare Doesn't Recognize Usb Devices?

Aug 20, 2009

After a few tribulations, I managed to get VMWare server installed. The only problem is that it will not recognize any usb devices. I installed usb in the virtual machine using the VMWare interface and in preparation for that, I followed the instructions in the tutorial to the letter regarding fstab and the vmx file. Supposedly, at least according to Windows control panel, the usb controllers and interfaces are installed. The VMware web interface says the same thing. However, neither the Device tab on VMWare nor VMware Tools show any usb devices. The usb devices - a printer, removable drive, and magicjack - are all recognized by Linux. How can I get the virtual Windows machine to recognize the devices?

This is crucial since my major use for it is to run the magicjack which is not supported in Linux.

OpenSUSE Install :: Not Booting And 11.2 Repair Doesn't Recognize Itself?

Jun 11, 2010

but I know a fair amount about the OS. I really like openSuSE, and I was trying to install 11.2 on my laptop, completely blank hdd. It installed just fine;I used the default options (the partition scheme was /boot, swap, root, /home) and started thesktop without a hitch. However, when I restarted, my BIOS would not even recognize an OS on the hard drive. I was also unable to boot using the installation DVD. I tried to use the repair feature, and I would either get a message saying that the boot loader was corrupt,d could not be repaired, or that the package database didn't match the version of openSUSE installed. I've tried re-installing multiple times, all with the same results. I have tried different partition schemes and I've tried different booting settings, such as enabling boot from root or /boot partition

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: K3B Doesn't Recognize Disc In Drive?

Jul 20, 2010

My K3B doesn't seem to recognise a blank CD in the drive tray.

I'm on OS 11.2, K3B & codecs from 11.2 packman, and 11.2 KDE4 factory (ie kde4.4).

When I put a blank cd in, the kde4 device notifier shows me a blank cd and offers to create a project with k3b. I create a data project & click burn, the burn dialog has a greyed out Burn button, and the media selector dropdown says please insert an empty or appendable medium.

If I eject & re-insert the disc at this point, the device notifier again tells me I've inserted a blank cd, k3b's dialog freezes for a second (seems to notice something has happened) but still does not list my cd and remains as it was before.

k3bsetup reports no problems. Burning from commandline (cdrecord) works fine. Dolphin also knows about the blank cd. I've burned to these discs before with no problems (K3B used to work quite recently, perhaps 4 or 5 weeks ago). Updates have been applied in the meantime.

OpenSUSE Network :: System Doesn't Recognize Video Card

Mar 26, 2010

So the only experience I have with Linux is all from Ubuntu, and I just spontaneously decided that I needed a change...two days later my triple boot Macbook Pro got slimmed down to a dual boot OSX/OpenSUSE 11.2 machine. But there are some general problems, and I have absolutely no idea how to solve them. First, wireless isn't recognized at all...there isn't even a space for wireless connections. Second, I haven't been able to get compiz to work yet, and I can only suspect that the system doesn't recognize my video card, or the driver isn't installed. Yet again, no idea how to fix this.

Software :: NetworkManager Doesn't Connect To Wi-fi

Mar 12, 2011

I've just upgraded my netbook from Jumping Jalopy, was it? to Karmic Karla 9.10 and I was obviously remiss in not taking note of the various sub-programs, libraries etc, that it was deleting. Now NetworkManager doesn't connect to my wi-fi whereas before it picked up immediately and was as solid as a rock thereafter. This version is apparently 0.7.996 although I cannot see this number on the Synaptic list. My wife's laptop is ok so the problem is on the netbook; I've checked "Edit Connections" and they're both the same.

So presumably the upgrade has removed something NetworkManager needed, but what? I've looked down Synaptic but there's just too much stuff there that I don't understand, likewise an attempt to trawl back through past threads on here. I'm barely computer literate, all assistance very gratefully received! How do I find out what dependencies it's lacking?

I know I can just edit /etc/network/interfaces file to set my IP, but I need about 20 different IP:s at work, so that is just stupid do it that way...

Fedora Networking :: NetworkManager Doesn't Autoconnect On Login

Jun 14, 2009

Kinda fed up with NetworkManager. Since trying the betas of F11 on my laptop, i've had endless bad experience with it.

Installed version: 0.7.1

Aside from the description below, please let me know what detailed system info you want to see (specific commands appreciated).

When i log in, the applet loads. However, it doesn't connect to the last Wifi connection i used. My SSID is hidden, so i click on the applet and choose "Connect to hidden wireless network". i see my stored connection in the drop-list. i select it, and all fields are greyed out, the WPA key is blank, and the Connect button is disabled.

Leaving that dialog, i delete my stored connection and re-create it manually, setting all the information correctly. i have DSL, using my DSL modem in bridging mode, and for some reason NetworkManager doesn't retrieve the DNS entries from the modem, whereas Windows does. So i have to set the connection to "DHCP (Address Only)" and manually add the IPs for my DNS.

However, the connection doesn't initiate, so i click the applet again and attempt again to connect to my hidden SSID, using the newly created profile. Same problem: no WPA key, all boxed disabled, and Connect also disabled.

The ONLY way i can get this thing to connect is by deleting my stored connection, clicking to connect to a hidden SSID, and create the connection from the New dialog. However, then i still have to go into Edit Connections and set the DHCP and DNS correcly before i can reach outside.

This is ridiculous, and i haven't been messing with any other configuration. i had a thread when F11 was still in beta where i had inconsistent results with NetworkManager. After thinking i got it fixed with some help, and discovering it wasn't, i decided to wait for the final release to see if it would work any better.

(automatically connect to the last active connection), consistently (connects when it loads at login every time), Otherwise, if there's a different connection manager, i'm open to that as well. Especially if the alternate connection manager can automatically retrieve DNS settings the way Windows can.

Ubuntu Networking :: Openvpn Through Networkmanager Doesn't Connect On Lucid

Jul 27, 2010

i have added a vpn connection on my Lucid desktop machine, but every time i try and connect, it fails. I also have the same, identical vpn connection on my karmic install on my laptop. everything works perfectly on Karmic, but Lucid is having problems. I have followed identical steps for creating the vpn connection on both machines: vpn connections can be made in 2 ways, the first is through the network manager, but trying to connect through the nm-applet returns an error about vpn failing to connect and "no valid vpn secrets".

I suspect this is at the root of the problem. The only way for my Lucid machine to successfully connect through the command line is if I run the openvpn command under sudo.

Fedora Networking :: Disabled NetworkManager And Internet Doesn't Work Anymore?

Aug 1, 2011

I recently installed Fedora 15 x86_64 on my new AMD Machine and I'm quite pleased with things thus far.Here's where my problem comes. I mainly bought that machine to help me with Development. More specifically, Virtual Machines for testing purposes. I have installed Fedora 15 x86_64 as a qemu-kvm Virtual Machine and it's working.. for the most part. I am having a whole lot of trouble getting it to connect to the Internet.

My guess is the only way I'm going to reliably do that is to setup a Bridge. Yes/no? However, in order to setup a Bridge I need to disable NetworkManager and that where the fun happens. It completely disables my network connection. I'm probably missing something small, but I can't figure out what I'm missing. I've double checked my ifcfg-em1 multiple times(I've been trying for ~24 hours so far) and all the settings are as they should be.

I've turned NetworkManager off and stopped it(chkconfig and service) and turned network on(chkconfig and service). Theoretically I should simply need to turn off NM and turn on network and things should be fine. no?

Well, aside from adding:

ONBOOT=yes
NM_CONTROLED=no
to ifcfg-em1.

Fedora Networking :: WiFi Auto Connect Doesn't Work (NetworkManager Applet)

Mar 3, 2010

The auto connect feature of NetworkManager Applet (version 0.7.997) isn't working on my system. If the WiFi connection dies, Network Manager doesn't detect that the connection has been lost and try to reestablish the connection. I have to manually click on the WiFi hotspot to reestablish the connection. This appears to be the case both while the computer is running and when I first boot it up (i.e. when booting, if the first attempt at establishing a WiFi connection doesn't succeed, Network Manager doesn't retry or try another hotspot).Is this "normal" behavior for Network Manager? If not, does anyone know a fix? Here's some more info about my system:
