I just want to tell everyone how good the Garmin/Asus A10 mobile phone is as an internet modem.I am in Australia and Mobile internet is an expensive thing to have. cheapest is dodo but i had a few problems trying out a friends usb modem.Anyway i was in the market for a Gps phone and discover this one. it is Android phone and pretty cheap so far it is very good gps, camera, mp3, and phone is excellent.BUT here is the clincher. when you plug it into the computer, the phone screen lights up and gives you 3 options.

Installed Orange 515m as per fix shared on this and other forums; however while it works great at home, it will only 'connect' once at work - on subsequent attempts it connects, but browser etc behave as though they cannot find the modem and I cannot make further connections via gmail and Firefox. I had just made the swap from Win 7 to Ubuntu 9.10 for work as well as home, but I cannot be in the position of being unable to access my emails and so swapped my hard drive back to Win 7 drive today

When my wireless network is connected every application in ubuntu (Meerkat) tries to use it for inernet access (as neededobviously). As soon as i disconnect from the wireless network (and assuming the mobile broadband is on) everything has access to the internet again using the mobile brodband.
How do i tell ubuntu that i don't want it to use my wireless network for internet access?
is there any tool (terminal command preferably) which can show the frequency and the type of the connected mobile broadband network. I mean HSDPA/GPRS etc and 900/2100MHz. At my country there are 2 frequencies used for UMTS, 900MHz for rural areas and 2100MHz for urban and I need to know what type is the connection and what is the used atm frequency. I am using wvdial for connecting to the internet.

i recently-ish bought a netbook, and a mobile-broadband toggle to go with it, and set it aside to use later. i promptly installed the Netbook remix on the laptop. Well, I goofed, and didn't notice until well after I bought the WAN toggle that it was made for windows.
so, I downloaded Wine in an attempt to run the start.exe and get my internet. the executable (and the entire drive, i found) are marked by ubuntu as read only. Is there anyway to change this to allow me to run the file? if i did, would it even work?
I can pair my phone and laptop using bluetooth, from Network manager I can select my phone and make a connection. But then I can't access anything.I looked at the connection info from nm and tried to ping the given dns addresses. That failed. And I pinged those addresses when I reconnected with wireless and it failed. So, where are these setup? I didn't do it

View 9 Replies View RelatedYesterday I updated my kernel, and then i could not run my wireless card, since I use the broadcom STA driver and there was no update on rpmfusion yet.
I googled and downloaded akmod, and all got fixed after a reboot.
Latter last night, i got an update message in wich, among other updates, was rmpfusion's aforementioned update, I installed it.
After a reboot, I am connected to my network, ifconfig throws normal stuff (default gateway, ip adresses and subnet mask) and i LOOKS like there should be no problem
however I'm unable to connect to any website, or access any remote server via ssh, or ping anything.
Also, i disabled ipv6 in firefox just in case, and it was no use.
This is my second day with ubuntu on a dell mini 10v with broadcom wireless card. I hooked up to a wired connection and ubuntu installed the drivers for the broadcom card.When I put the cursor over the wireless icon on the desktop it shows the name of my wireless connection,active,and my ip address but when I open firefox I get a "server not found". View 1 Replies View RelatedI can connect to my router but no web pages will load etc... I can connect my phone to the router and USB tether it to my laptop and everything works fine. I can also connect to my neighbors router and everything works fine.
I have tried put my routers IP in /etc/resolve.conf but to no avail. I also tried putting 8.8.8.8.
Edit: Toshiba Sattelite A215 laptop (RS690 wireless card?) and a Linksys router.
im using mandrake linux 2010.0 , and i connected my router cable (dlink) to the computer, and it detects without needing configuration to the 'eth0' and it shows me the ip the dns and gateway, everything ok, but then i go in firefox it says that i couldent connect because theres no internet connection,ive looked at the proxys the firewall, tried to uninstal the eth0, the ppp0 and install then again and still the same,does any one have an idea of what could be?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed Fedora 15 today and after a few very long hours finally got the broadcom driver to work and my laptop is now connected to my router. Yay! But now when I try going to a website in firefox it says server not found. I can ping anything inside my network but when I try to ping outside the network, for example google, it says ping: unknown host google.com. So I thought it might be a DNS problem but the network settings point to the router for DNS so I'm not sure what else could be wrong. All of the other settings look correct.
