Networking :: VSFTPD Multiple FTP Websites With Default Port?

May 30, 2011

I am trying to create multiple FTP sites on one Linux server (using multiple vsftpd-sitename.conf files) with default port '21'.

Below is the sample vsftpd site configuration,

# cat vsftpd-site1.conf
listen=YES
write_enable=YES

[code]....

I am unable to create above vsftpd site with port '21'. Below is the problem,

# vsftpd vsftpd-site1.conf &
[1] 14448
500 OOPS: could not bind listening IPv4 socket

I wonder, i can able to create above FTP site with another port (example, listen_port=60001 ). In Linux(vsftpd), can i use default ftp port '21' for multiple FTP sites?

Ubuntu Networking :: Multiple Port Forwarding Firestarter?

Apr 21, 2010

I have a system running 9.10 configured with Firestarter acting as a router. We have multiple Xbox 360's on the network. Unless some ports are forwarded, the Xbox has a NAT type of "Moderate". I have been able to set an Xbox with a Static IP and forward the necessary ports for that IP, which allows the Xbox's NAT to become "Open." My question is, how do I do this for multiple Xboxs? If the follow the same procedure for additional Xboxes, only one Xbox at a time can have an "Open" NAT type, and the rest would be "Moderate". The ports the Xbox uses cannot be changed via the Xbox.

Server :: Mysql For Multiple Websites?

Aug 1, 2011

I currently have a single mysql instance for a couple of websites. Both websites require that the user provide a username.

The thing I just noticed is that two people might choose the same username for both applications. Both of them would have grants to each others' tables, although neither would ever be able to access them, since they can only access through php scripts.

But, I'm now guessing this is not best practice. What does one do? Run multiple instances of mysql for several websites?

OpenSUSE Network :: Port Redirection - Multiple IP Addresses - Or Run On Port 80

Apr 7, 2011

In SuSE firewall0. I do have a openSuse 11.4 and multiple IP addresses on eth0 interface

I run (trying to/have to) multiple TOMCAT servers.

I am trying to have each tomcat instance listen to on separate IP address for example:

What i am trying to do is to redirect

a) tomcat 1 -

a) tomcat 2 -

And so on.

I know that it has to be possible.

I do have just eth0/

Is is it possible. Do I have to create "vittual interfaces"? eth0:1, .......... and do redirection ?

"Server" has got just single interface - just 1 ethernet calbe goes to that server. I am planning to have 10-15 tomcat's on that server (I have to unfortunatley) and each has to run on port 80

Is it possible to "grant" permissions to normal users to run app on port 80 - that would solve me lots of problems if impossible to redirect.

I tried to setcap 'cap_net_bind_service=+ep' /path/to/tomcat ...... but no luck

I have managed to configure AWstats to work from one server to access the log files for multiple websites on multiple servers and even managed to write a little front end php site to access all the different conf files. I want to know if there is a way of combing two conf files for the same site but are on two different servers in a loadbalanced situation. so my conf files look something like: [URL].. I have to monitor bandwidth for our websites and its gets tedious switching between the various conf files for the same site and totaling it up so I was hoping I could combine the output of both conf files on screen using some funky command in the awstats.pl script

Ubuntu Servers :: Multiple Websites On Single Host Machine Without Virtualisation

Jun 1, 2010

I have this intra net server project going on and now I moved to 10.04 however there are still some things that I would like to see clarification and instructions on. I am interested to set up multiple parallel websites for my apache server, however I am not sure how to do this exactly. Now I have solid address rivera.wippies.net and port 80 redirecting to my server. What I would like to get done is that I get multiple independent of each other websites for my server I was thinking of making websites like this

/var/www/site1 (which would be as rivera.wippies.net)
/var/www/site2 (which would be as rivera.wippies.net/othersite)
/var/www/site3 (which would be rivera.wippies.net/secondothersite)

etc, so that I have multiple "individual" websties for my server. Requirements would be that each of these websites could have SSL encryption as needed available too, since some of the website could have confidential information.

Ubuntu Servers :: Running Multiple Websites On Single Server - VirtualHost

Aug 25, 2010

I currently am running 10.04.1 and have successfully setup my home web server to run a single website. My current settings are:

-I have registered the domain name annarrankings.com through godaddy
-A record is - host = @ and points to = 71.114.220.3
-CName is - host = www and points to = @
-on my server I have the site running in /var/www

I've done some research and found that to run multiple websites I need to setup VirtualHost.

-So I created a folder /var/www/annarrankings.com and moved my site to that folder

-Edited Apache2.conf to add the following line

-I then went to /etc/apache2/sites-enabled and copied the default file to a new file called annarrankings.com. Here's the annarrankings.com file after I edited it

-I then created a link in /etc/apache2/sites-enabled to the annarrankings.com file in /etc/apache2/sites-available

-Next I editied /etc/hosts

-When i went to enable the site using a2ensite annarrankings.com I got the following

I figured this was ok since I had already created a symbolic link earlier (a result of trying to following multiple tutorials and ..... videos at once) so I reloaded apache2. I created an index.html file in /var/www/ just for testing purposes and when I load www.annarrankings.com I get the file located in /var/www/ instead of the website located in /var/www/annarrankings.com Do I need to change my A record or CName in godaddy or did I just do this completely wrong?

Programming :: Multiple Protocols On Serial Port

Mar 24, 2011

I'm attempting to write an application that needs to read and reply to messages that will appear via 3 different methods:

1) Standard serial communications
2) TCPIP over serial via PPP
3) TCPIP over Ethernet

The problem is that I'd like for the application to be able to receive packets from any and all of the three interfaces simultaneously. I shouldnt have much trouble with performing #1 and #3 at the same time, as I think I can just get a file descriptor from termios and another for a socket and then use select to wait for data. But #2 is problematic.

First I dont know how to set up a socket that uses PPP as the data link layer. And secondly, (here's the big one) this PPP data is coming over the same port that the serial data is. There's no chance for data collision, and I am guaranteed not to receive another packet until I respond to the last one (in the same protocol at that) but incoming packets may or may not be PPP/TCP/IP framed.

My app will act like the PPP client, so I was just thinking "somehow" that I could run a standard termios application on the serial port which would begin to interpret the packet. If its PPP framed then it would have to get passed to a PPP client, which would be listening to my application rather than a physical port. And I have no idea how to do that. Is there an API available that will help me with the PPP packets?

How hard would it be to write a device driver that simulates a serial port. The device can listen on a real serial port, interpret its contents to an extent, and then distribute the incoming data to multiple "virtual" serial ports, which the main application can then listen to for incoming traffic.

Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Connect To A Small Number Of Random Websites: Otherwise Networking Is Fine

Dec 29, 2010

I was having no problems (that I knew of) browsing the web since installing Ubuntu 10.10 a week or so ago. I was previously trialling Win7 as my customers will likely be using that in the future. Then I wanted to go to internode.on.net. Got the following: Quote: Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at internode.on.net. or Quote: Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to internode.on.net

As it was just after Christmas I thought it must be down, for upgrades or maintenance etc. I later tried to go to Freebsd.org; same error. I've been having a small number of other websites give the same error. I thought nothing of this until I tried it on my wife's macpro. I could log onto all the websites I wanted to and none gave any indication of having been down. Both boxes are on the same adsl connection. I still can't access internode or freebsd on 10.10 yet have been able to access every website on OSX. Now, I was only looking at them for info but am worried I won't be able to access something important. (so far everything I 'need' is working)

ping just drops out. edit: weirdest thing! I just retried and now can not emulate the problem for internode. freebsd still won't show. that is less than five minutes between problems and resolution! I hadn't even posted! But I still would like to have an idea of what is going on. Here is the ping error for freebsd: Quote:
