Ubuntu Networking :: Install Modem Driver For The Alcatel X200 USB Modem?

find and install modem driver for the Alcatel X200 USB modem?

I've been all over the internet trying to locate Linux drivers but no success. Alcatel's website says is not supported, only in Windows. I'm sure there's gotta be a way to use the X200 in Linux.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Disappeared From Applet X220 + Realtek Wifi?

Jul 29, 2011

I am having issues with wifi on my Lenovo X220. What has occurred is that the network applet in the notification bar no longer shows me any wireless network options. When I click on the applet, the drop down shows me: Wired network: disconnected (greyed out), VPN connections, Enable networking (checked), Connection information (greyed out), and Edit connections. Missing is Wireless connections. This occurred "out of the blue" in the middle of using the computer (i.e. NOT just after a reboot or new driver installation, etc.)

I have noted that:

1. Wired ethernet works just fine.

2. Wireless (wifi) works when I boot into Windows 7 or into a fresh Ubuntu USB Start up disk (implying that this is a software issue, not hardware).

3. The hardware led for wifi is OFF (whereas the Bluetooth light is on.) In Windows or using a fresh ubuntu from USB, this light turns on normally.

This may be irrelevant, but the issue started yesterday when I noticed that the trackpoint scrolling that I had enabled using gpointing-device-settings was not working. I ran that app and checked the settings, which were normal. I then reset the computer, and found the trackpoint was working just fine, but I had no wifi. A few resets later, the problem was not solved.

Ubuntu Networking :: No DHCP Offers Received After Modem Change?

Jul 5, 2011

I used to connect to the internet via a Linksys router using the following terminal commands (Network Manager has never worked for me on any Ubuntu install):

Code:

sudo ifconfig wlan0 down
sudo dhclient -r wlan0
sudo ifconfig wlan0 up

[code]....

However, I recently changed the old modem + router for a new wireless modem (a Thomson TG585v8 ). Now, the result of that last command is this:

Code:

amosupremo@amosupremo:~$ sudo dhclient wlan0
Internet Systems Consortium DHCP Client V3.1.3

[code]....

No working leases in persistent database-sleeping. I've tried to connect in Natty(both Ubuntu and Kubuntu) and it's not working either.I also purged Network Manager and installed wicd and I managed to get an intermittent, slow connection.

1 ) Machine Brand and Model (PC/Laptop): No brand. I built it with the following specs:

AMD Athlon II X4 2.6GHz
2 HD: 100GB Sata (Ubuntu and XP64 install) / 80GB IDE (XP)
4GB RAM
Gigabyte Motherboard

2 ) Wireless Brand, Model and Wireless Chipset:

Code:

amosupremo@amosupremo:~$ lsusb
Bus 002 Device 005: ID 0ace:1201 ZyDAS 802.11b
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 049f:000e Compaq Computer Corp. Internet Keyboard

[code]....

3 ) check interface:

Code:

amosupremo@amosupremo:~$ ifconfig wlan0
wlan0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:02:72:04:d0:04

[code]...

I am also attaching the wicd log. It contains a session where I got the intermittent connection. I stopped that connection and restarted it (with the same results) two times.

Networking :: ASCII / Binary FTP Transfer Modes

Sep 14, 2009

I had a problem with the old good ascii/binary FTP transfer modes. I transferred some files (SQL scripting files, in which carriage returns DO matter) using FTP from a windows system to a linux system using filezilla "auto" mode, that should have resulted in ASCII mode for my sql files. These files are well formed and identical to the originals.

Then, someone else picked these files and moved them to another ftp server. I finally found that all <CR><LF> couples have been transformed in <CR><CR><LF>. I guessed that the problem was in the ASCII transfer mode - but, how comes that <CR><LF> => <CR><CR><LF>? I would have rather expected <CR><LF> to become <CR>.

Ubuntu Networking :: Consulting Regarding Edimax Wifi-usb Supported Modes At Jaunty (master And Ad-hoc)?

Jan 25, 2010

After purchasing few wifi-usb-dongles for my jaunty and lost many hours, i had no success in bringing them to operate as master or ad-hoc.The devices were Belkin, Level1, and a TP-Link 620 Though the Belkin could work as ad-hoc, but very often disconnects due to buffers issue (though I couldn't build the zd1211b driver for jaunty and it seems that no one can really help with that).

Now I would like to consult with you ahead regarding new potential devices, whether you know it operates as master mode or ad-hoc mode under jaunty (9.04)?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Flash Video Consumes All CPU Resources On X220?

Jun 5, 2011

I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 (64bit) on my Thinkpad X220. When I watch flash videos I see that Xorg consumes a lot of resources (CPU time). Flash videos in full screen are extremely choppy. I found lots of posts by other people with similar problems but they had different graphics cards so their solutions were not applicable in my case.

Software :: Xrandr Not Finding Modes?

Jul 14, 2010

I'm on Debian Squeeze, my PC has a Radeon HD4770 card. I honestly don't know if it's currently running on OS or proprietary fglrx drivers; I installed fglrx, but the control panel app insists the driver isn't loaded. I'm following these instructions to try to get my screen running at 1280x960x85. It's currently at 1280x1024x85, but it's an old CRT that, for some reason, works fine at 1280x960 but gets unfocused at 1280x1024. I'm following the step "adding undetected resolutions", and here's the result:

Code:

fallingwater@longcat:~$ xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1280 x 1024, maximum 2048 x 2048
DVI-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

Fedora Installation :: Xserver Set To Display Modes Above 800*600

Dec 27, 2009

I use 3 computers attached to a kvm switch (not the hypervisor) and this works fine w/ windows xp and ubuntu 9.04 and earlier. However I am having a problem w/ Fedora 12. It seems that it cannot read the EDID block, so I am not able to set the display above 800x600. There is no xorg.conf file, so I had one generated by Xorg -configure :1. I also tried using the modeline instructions, but the Xserver would not start until I removed modeline. I have tried adding to Section "Screen"

Subsection "Display"
Modes "1280x800"
EndSubSection

but it seems that this is ignored. how can I get the Xserver to set display modes above 800x600 when it cannot read EDID (thru a kvm switch) and it seems to be ignoring settings in xorg.conf?
