Although I don't face any problem visiting facebook,every time I try to connect to chat its impossible!!I get no explanation for that, but whenever I use another computer with windows I can connect without problem. what is going wrong with linux?

View 5 Replies View Relatedi got my facebook chat working in empathy, but for some reason i can not add my friends from this protocol into a custom group. I have my gmail contacts in a group, and my aim buddies in a group, allowing them to be minimized, but i cannot get my facebook friends to go into a facebook group for some reason. I can right click the friend, and create a new group called "Facebook", but the friend will not move to the group when i hit close.

When I first open pidgin it gives me an error it says at the bottom "You require encryption, but it is not available on this server." if I keep clicking on reconnect it will usually connect me at some point but it can take a long time I'm wondering on how to fix this. I have Facebook blocked in certain areas on my network. So certain machines cannot navigate Facebook. One other issue is chatting with 3rd party clients. How do I block that? Can I block a certain port on the firewall/router? I can't seem to find what Facebook uses.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi have a gnome debian squeeze fresh install. this new release is perfect except for one problem i am having. the sound will not work in empathy when i receive a message from somebody. i have it set to do this in the settings and i am sure that my sound works because i was watching videos before. when i run alsamixer, all of my channels are not on mute. is there a package that is missing from my system that i might need? i tried researching this but i could not find any help.

View 3 Replies View RelatedA number of Kopete bugs have appeared since I added Facebook chat with XMPP/Jabber this morning. Once I added it, Kopete took every regular & meta contact with a Facebook chat address and removed it from all the groups. Also, metacontacts were renamed to the name used on Facebook. This would not be a huge problem because I could simply move the contacts into groups and rename them, but every time Kopete is closed and re-opened it reverts back to how it was.
Kopete also forgets if I delete groups, because when I re-open the program they're back again. But those groups aren't related to the new Facebook Kopete account. It seems to forget all changes I make when the application is closed.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently removed Windows from a family member's laptop (Gateway NV52) and installed Ubuntu on it. I started out with Ubuntu 10.04 since it was an LTS. She's been very happy with it until a few days ago when it started acting up and refused to load almost any site she frequently visited. I decided to back up her data and do a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10 (64bit) which is what I use. It installed fine, wireless works seamlessly as well.
However, Facebook refuses to load on any web browser (chrome, firefox, minefield, midori, etc.). It's only Facebook as well. The login page will appear but it will absolutely not login. I've tried it with several different accounts and it just flat out refuses.y other site loads fine and fast, and logs in fine, but facebook just doesn't seem to load.I really do not want to have to move her back to windows 7 as she's prone to viruses and Ubuntu is just flat out awesome at virtually everything, but for her, social networking is her primary way of connecting to friends and it's critical for her to have access to that site. It's really her make or break feature, and if Ubuntu can't do it then she doesn't want anything to do with it.
I've looked everywhere for a solution to this. I've tried changing DNS servers, disabling and re-enabling the wifi, clearing the cache and cookies, even down to resetting the router we use, all to no avail. The site loads fine on every other PC regardless of the OS, and I've run out of places to look.My experience with the Ubuntu community has been top notch so far, and I'm not shy of any terminal work that may be needed, nor am I shy of fiddling with anything.
I am facing a problem in browsing website with F15 installation, both firefox and chrome browsers give me a headache. The main website that cannot be accessed is facebook.com, I only can browse it in certain of time after clearing cache, cookies and histories, this only happen for facebook web only.

What's the problem? Suddenly, I cannot access 2 websites: namely facebook and netflix. I just get a "waiting for facebook.com" status from my browser, and it waits there patiently until the browser finally gives up. I haven't found any other sites that give me this issue. Gmail, ....., flickr, etc all work fine.
This happens using both firefox and chrome browsers. I've tried using Ubuntu 10.10 (on my desktop) and Peppermint (distro based on ubuntu, runs on my laptop). Both machines access the internet via wifi. Both have the same problem! o_O
Both machines are up-to-date. I've rebooted many times. I've tried booting an old kernel. I haven't installed any new software lately. I've tried disabling all plugins for the browsers. I've tried power-cycling our internet modem. I've tried changing my DNS settings to use Google's Public DNS service. Nothing helps.
Actually, one small piece of information: If I put my browser in incognito mode, I can get to the "sign-in" page for both facebook and netflix. But upon putting in my credentials, I still cannot reach my custom user home page for either site.

looking for a chat program that would let me (ubuntu10.10) contact other windows users on the network, i found that Pidgin and Bonjour do the trick.
however i could not find a way to chat with several people at a time (eg. create a chat-room). is this a fault of bonjour? is there a different program that can do this?

I wasn't able to surf the net at first but after searching these forums, managed to get it right (changed setting in firefox). I was able to use update manager and the software program ok (downloading and installing). I am using a adsl via wifi. Networked pcs and my NAS/samba work fine
My current problem is that while I can surf the net and download updates etc, I can't seem to get email and chat working, it just gives a timeout error for some reason.
I can't add my facebook account to gwibber. Here is what i do:Click on envelope in the top panel. Click Broadcast.In Broadcast Accounts click dropdown and select Facebook. Then click Add.I then click Authorise. A blue facebook login page appears. I click on the small link at the bottom that says Log in with Facebook.Type in my credentials and click Connect. Wait a long time then goes back to Authorise window. With the words Facebook authorised.I click on Add and nothing happens. I did try to start using this on Alpha 2 but gave up but now I've done a full reinstall using RC version.
