View 6 Replies View Relatedi just installed fedora 9, but realized that i had installed the x86 version (it came on a dvd in linux format magazine). i didn't know that the "only-3gb-of-ram-for-x86" applied to linux, as my previous machines i used it on had under 3gb anyway. so anyway, is there a way to switch to the x86_64 version without downloading and reinstalling it? kinda like ubuntu's distro upgrade (not sure if other distros have it?)

I found out it had a kernel crash and the person tried to fix it by reinstalling the kernel, unfortunately they installed i686. Now some of our software that was setup to work with i386 is not cooperating. Is there a way to switch from the i686 kernel to i386 without reinstalling the system?

i've been trying to load F15 on a HP DV4 (switchable ati/intel graphics, no hardware switch). the system boots from dvd fine, but gets stuck right after the starting anaconda message with a non blinking cursor on black screen and nothing happens after that.

Noticed that ATI card is heating heavely with default installation and I would like disable it and switch to use Intel's GMA. Also tested ATI proprietary fglrx driver through Administration->Additional Drivers, after booting got empty screen so I switched back. Afterwards read from documentation that 5450 is not supported, so no wonder. So what is the simplest way of disabling ATI and using only Intel's gma? Here's what I got with lspci -v:

Can the fibre channel switch in the centOS5.3 cluster edition be switched for a regular router or hub?
If so how would one do this? If not why does the switch have to be fibre channel?

I've installed Suse linux 11.3 (kernel 2.6.34.7-0.5) on my brand new computer HP all in one 5130. Everything worked incredibly well : Wifi, wireless keyboard and mouse, sound, webcam.. There is only one remaining issue : I get a very poor resolution (1280x1024) instead of the 1920x1080 allowed by the screen. The graphic card is an intel chipset (HD graphics) integrated to an intel core i3 CPU. Here is (part of) the X11.org log :

My wireless switching mechanism has just gone the way of the saints but Belkin has supplied a software solution for this occurrence. There is a small app called Fling (surprising) that allows me to switch from the XP machine to the Linux machine but nothing to switch back to the XP. What I need to know is there a similar app for the Linux computer. (NB I have tried Synergy but have no idea how to set it up - I've been told that synergy might work).

I've tried several "fixes" that were supposed to work and none of them worked. I don't want to lose the Data that was on Ubuntu since I've already had to lose everything that was on Windows.

Somehow I've managed to break evolution, since it no longer does email, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling from the fedora 14 dvd and repos. attached is a screenshot to show you what it currently looks like

During the Win install the machine is restarting and normally continues to finish the setup. In my case after restart the following message appeared: Invalid partition table.I think that by reinstalling linux I will get access to the C and E partitions too but I need to reinstall win on D too. I went to F11 for the full screen and after I closed Picassa,my Firefox browser had been reset,creating all kinds of issues,taking out my status bar,making it impossible to access the three icons in the top right hand corner of the screen,and so forth.
When I removed and reinstalled Firefox from the Synaptic Package Manager,it did not give me the option of not saving the settings and the same issues pertained to the newly installed one.

I had Ubuntu 10.10 installed on an HP G72 laptop, and I wish to reinstall Win 7. I loaded from the recovery disks that I made before installing Ubuntu and all went fine. At the end, I need to restart. When restarting, I am getting the GRUB rescue prompt with "unknown filesystem." It surprises me that GRUB is still there. How can I get rid of it so I can boot windows?
