Hardware :: Micro Innovations Kb400i Keyboard. Fkeys, Left Ctl And Others Don't Work Nor For Bios

Jun 3, 2010

now using a micro innovations kb400i turbo-trak keyboard and I can't even access the bios before bootup (f2). It's a standard ps/2 plug and it's gotta a qwerty setup (small backspace with big enter key). So basically the fkeys don't work and the 6 key doesn't work (it does on number lock pad). There are some others that don't work as well. I can't use left ctl to copy and paste which I always use however right ctl works. I'm running absolute linux 13.1.0 fully updated and the keyboard layout was set to u.s.a. and basic by default. I've changed it now to be usa and dvorak but I still gotta reboot. So far I don't know if it's a faulty keyboard or maybe this ones just quirky to setup. According to various websites it's a qwerty keyboard and dvorak is the next closes thing.

Ubuntu :: "Swap Left Alt And Left Win" Keyboard Layout Works Intermittently?

Jul 10, 2011

When I swap my left alt with my left win key using the gnome keyboard layout options, the swap only works intermittently. I have an aluminum Apple keyboard with no numpad. No matter what layout options I choose, I can't seem to get it working.I also have the same setup on my laptop and work desktop and it works without issue. I've ensured my .Xmodmap doesn't exist. When I say "works intermittently" I mean when I'm trying to use "alt+b, alt+f" navigation in emacs or bash, it doesn't work but if I click around a bit then try again, it works. Also, I use alt+arrows to switch workspaces and that always works

General :: Alternative To Alt-ctrl-fkeys For VT?

Mar 7, 2010

Recently alt-ctrl-F1-6 to drop into a VT stopped working. I don't use that everyday so cannot really isolate why it may have happened (investigating WM rebuild).

Could something in a kernel rebuild do those? I don't recall seeing such an option.

Anyway, does anyone know of another way to get into a VT from X?

Ubuntu :: 9.1 - USB Keyboard Not Working (Even In BIOS)

Apr 15, 2010

I have a Dell Studio XPS desktop 435MT, with Ubuntu 9.1 64 bit version. There is no ps/2 port in this computer. It worked perfectly fine until yesterday I switched it on and my keyboard lights switch on, but no key pressed works from the very beginning Dell BIOS screen! I have tried to use LiveCD but keyboard doesn't work even there, so it automatically selects english and loads from cd... once it installs the livecd version and loads it, the keyboard starts working again (good thing as I recovered my data). I have also tried inserting norton ghost or other dell setup cds but don't work because a key needs to be pressed and so goes on loading grub (which doesn't work). I will try to fresh install from the terminal screen of the livecd ubuntu.

Hardware :: Keyboard Failure And Updating BIOS?

May 12, 2010

I am using a Dell dimension 4550 with pentium 4 processor. My current BOIS is A01. I am running Slackware 13. My current problem is that whenever I reboot, the keyboard fails just before the kernel selection page. This isn't a huge problem because I only have one kernel to boot but it is quite annoying. Whenever I shutdown the computer and boot it up again the keyboard works fine. The problem only occurs when I reboot. How do I fix this? Would updating the BIOS solve the problem?

Ubuntu :: Botloader W/o Enter Key Or Remap Keyboard In Bios?

Oct 16, 2010

So, for some reason the right side ENTER, period, semi colon, SHIFT, and UP, Down, Left arrow keys have all stopped working on my laptop. I just set up a dual boot with windows xp, and ubuntu.

I checked under the keys, and cleaned them, and no problem. This wouldn't be that bad of a sutuation, I could just re-map the keys. However, when my computer starts, and I enter Bios > Bootloader, I get stuck.

I can use home/end to move up and down, but no way to select which OS I want. I have to plug in a USB keyboard to get into my OS. I don't want to be carrying around a keyboard, otherwise I wouldn't have a laptop.

So, I either need a different bootloader which can use some other keys, or I need a way to remap the enter key all the way back at the bios, so I can trick it and enter my OS,

Edit: Actually, I'll probably need a new keyboard. Ubuntu is pretty good with battery life, so I could boot into ubuntu, then hibernate. So, I need a good key mapper for Ubuntu

Problem seemed to be solved. This morning, the down arrow cursor key again was not working. I thought that was a weird coincidence, so I plugged in the old usb keyboard, and the down arrow cursor key was again working!

Debian Hardware :: USB Keyboard Not Working (No BIOS Or Grub Menu Selection)

Sep 15, 2014

I have Debian Jessie 8.0 amd-64 installed. It is a dual boot system with Widnows 8.1 alongside. Both the systems work fine with a few glitches coming at times on jessie. But I assume it should get stabilised with time.

Problem is:

The usb keyboard is no longer detected until the GRUB stage crosses.

* This implies I am unable to press F2 to enter into BIOS
* I am unable to chose Windows 8.1 by using arrow key on the keyboard.

When the default system (first in the grub list), in this case Debian is selected after time runs out then the keyboard comes back to life and works properly thereafter.

So far I have tried the possible solution given at [URL] .... but it did not work.

Some Information
================

$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID:Debian
Description:Debian GNU/Linux testing (jessie)
Release:testing
Codename:jessie

$ uname -r
3.13-1-amd64

I've tried removing legacy usb support and changing usb2.0 speed from high to full. Nothing changed.

Anybody with this strange problem? (kernel of setup seems also to detect it correctly as a trust keyboard).

Oct 16, 2010

Mouse pointer can be moved, however left click shows no reaction(when i move the mouse pointer to some certain icon, the icon can be highlighted just as usual but left click still shows no reaction).

I doubted this may be firefox's problem, but when I kill firefox-bin and firefox process through the terminal(keyboard is ok and i can use ALT+F2 to enter gnome-terminal), Left mouse button still cannot work. And then I have to Ctrl+Alt+Delete and reboot the system. My ubuntu is 10.10, updated several days ago(this problem has been existed before the update)

OpenSUSE :: Map "Present Windows - All Desktops" Action Which Is Invoked By Activating The Top Left Corner Of Active Screens Via A Keyboard Shortcut?

Aug 25, 2010

Is it possible to map the same "Present Windows - All Desktops" action which is invoked by activating the top left corner of active screens via a keyboard shortcut? I basically want to ape OSX and have an expose-like button, the screen edge works fine for now, but I would love a keyboard shortcut also. Is it possible? Also, when I set up a custom keyboard shortcut to run yast, I initially tried using the same command from the KDE menu: /usr/bin/xdg-su -c /sbin/yast2

However, when I use the keyboard shortcut to launch this command, I get problems when trying to use zypper after the initial launch using the keyboard shortcut(from yast GUI or CLI). The error basically states another instance of yast2 already exists. The problem is only with the app/repo management modules though; for instance I can launch yast (using keyboard shortcut or start menu) and access hardware info, sudo users etc, I just can't access software/repo management stuff. Even when I kill the offending PID from the CLI I still get the error and have to restart the box to rectify it proper. So I changed the keyboard shortcut command to : /usr/bin/kdesu /sbin/yast2

and this seems to have resolved the problem. My second question is what is the difference between the two in this particular instance and why does one cause problems (xdg-su) and the other does not (kdesu).

Ubuntu :: Mouse Intermittently Double Left Clicks / When Single Left Click

Jun 15, 2011

I'm not sure if I should post this question in "hardware & laptops", or "Desktop Environments", because this is a hardware problem on a desktop computer.

Description of Problem:There is another thread that discussed this same problem that I'm having: However that thread is so old that the suggestions in it no longer work in Ubuntu 10.04 and for whatever reason I can not make a reply to that thread. As in the above thread, I've tried other input devices and rebooting the computer and using other USB ports, and my mouse still intermittently double left clicks randomly at times when I've only clicked the left mouse button once and at times and places when it should only produce a single click such as when selecting a drop down menu.

Has any one else had this problem, and does any one have any idea how to fix it or to trouble shoot this a bit more? Please let me know if there is any other information I can provide to further clarify or troubleshoot this issue.

Programming :: Implement Left-associative Operators In Parser That Does Not Allow Left Recursion?

Jan 20, 2011

The first is about implementing function calls. The way I currently have it is that functions are called with a C++ std::vector of nodes as the parameters. How would I turn a comma-seperated list of expressions into a C++ vector in the grammar?Second, how do you implement left-associative operators in a parser that does not allow left recursion?

And third, what would be the best internal representation of integers? A C++ int seems simplest, but limited. Using GMP seems more versatile, but I'm afraid it might seriously slow down the interpreter compared to C++ ints.
