Ubuntu Networking :: Find A Driver For A Sprint 3G/4G Modem?

Jan 3, 2010

I need to find a driver for a Sprint 3G/4G modem. I am running 9.04.

Sprint lists this as a U300 but the actual part is a Franklin Wireless FW300DOWMX.

lsusb shows this as ID 16d8:6002 CMOTECH Co., Ltd. and ID 0409:005a NEC Corp. HighSpeed Hub

so my box can see the part.

If I can get just the 3G working that would help a lot. I would be happy to do beta, even alpha, testing.

OpenSUSE Network :: 11.2 - 3G USB Broadband Modem Keeps Disconnecting

Jan 23, 2010

I am running a 3-G wireless USB broadband modem, and connecting with Network Manager, but I keep getting disconnected when idle after 5-6 minutes. I am used to using Kinternet to connect with my 3-G wireless USB broadband modem, and setting it up in Yast / Network / Modems, but was not able to configure my modem there (for some mysterious reason) so ended up using Network Manager instead.

What's going on here regarding YAST being unable to configure my modem (even when Network Manger is disabled). But my main problem at this point is that my connection times out after about 6 minutes if I'm idle. This is a big problem for me because I type slow and frequently get disconnected while posting on message boards. Where are the idle time out settings are for Network Manager? I can't seem to find them.

Ubuntu Networking :: Using Broadband Modem For Wan And Wifi For Lan?

Jan 12, 2011

I tried ubuntu and am very happy with the smooth running and clean interface. I am having trouble setting up my network connections. It seems that I am unable to connect to the internet via my broadband modem if I am connected to my LAN via wifi. I think I need to seperate the networks so that the internet traffic does look on the lan for [URL]. I don't think I have had this problem when I used much smaller distros where I had to set it up by hand.

I might need to add some details I am just not sure what is relevant. I only have a basic understanding of what is going on.

solution:

Solved in #ubuntu irc chan with help by erUSUL.

Just in case anyone else is searching for the same thing.

In network connections in the ipv4 settings tab I edited routes by clicking the button and checked the box next to: "use this connection only for resources on its network"

Now you have to do a modprobe.

Run wvdialconf as below.

Scanning your serial ports for a modem.

Found a modem on /dev/ttyUSB0.

The modem configuration will be written in /etc/wvdial.conf as below.

Make changes as below to the /etc/wvdial.conf

Run wvdial

Wow You are on to the net.

If your browser gives problems loading the pages add the nameservers in /etc/resolv.conf as below.

Then run the browser, there should not be any problems.

OpenSUSE Network :: Cricket A600 USB Broadband Modem Install?

May 13, 2009

I recently got one of these modems and it had discovered very serious detection problems. I had been using one of the Cricket PCMCIA modems but it had a problem of dropping connections every 30 seconds or so. Anyway, this modem works a lot better but there is a trick to get it working.

Since the modem has a built-in flash card reader and flash memory containing the Windows software, when you first plug the device in, it is detected by the OS as a flash drive rather than a modem. If you try to configure the modem at this point, it will be impossible since no modem will have yet been detected.

In order to get the device to be detected as a modem, it needs to be "flipped". The following thread from the Ubuntu forums discusses the details of the problem and contains a link to a utility to "flip" the device: [ubuntu] HOWTO: Cricket Wireless A600 Broadband Modem - Ubuntu Forums

Once the device is flipped, I configured it using YAST / Network Devices / Modems. Mine is detected as /dev/tty/ACM0. I use Kinternet to connect, though Network Manager may also work, but I have not yet tested it.

I have switched from traditional setup with ifup to user controlled through Network Manager and the modem is detected. The module option seems to be loaded and the 'mode' of the stick seems also to be correct, it is not detected as a storage device at least.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: CDMA Mobile Broadband USB Modem Manager Program

Apr 10, 2010

I'm using a 'ice.net' D-50 (CDMA EV-DO rev A) mobile broadband USB modem, also sold as Cmotech CNU-680 in other areas. The modem is connected to a USB port on a hp8710w mobile workstation.

As the 11.2 Gnome Network Manager won't connect this modem to Internet (see my first post here), I have downloaded and installed a 'D50 Modem Manager program' from [url]

After unpacking and installing this cmotech-qtmodem-1.6-1.i586.rpm package for suse on 11.2 x86_64, the gui application 'D-50 Modem Manager' is found in the Internet Group.

However, neither this program does connect the D-50 modem really on 11.2 x86_64 (as it did on 11.1 x86_64). Tried both traditional network setup and with Network Manager.

Any idea and suggestion how to trobleshoot this further? I think I've seen that a newer version cmotech-qtmodem 1.9 has been mentioned on the web, but without being able to find and download this version.

Command output as follows:

As normal user:

On the Modem Manager gui: D-50 modem is ready

From Login script Debug window:

As root:

It seemed like the modem connected, but Firefox was not able to connect afterwards (Server not found)

Ubuntu Networking :: Modem Not Showing In New Mobile Broadband Connection - ZTE MF636 HSDPA

Jan 4, 2010

I've been trying to get a USB modem stick to work with Karmic. The modem is the ZTE MF626 HSDPA on a Telstra Next G plan.I've followed all the guides and links on the forums:Have deactivated the CD autorun on the USB stick in XP lsusb is showing "Bus 002 Device 003:ID 19d2:0031 ONDA Communication S.p.A." demsg is showing "usb 2-2: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB1"This seems stable as well, ie checking periodically it doesn't seem to be disconnecting By the way,the blue light indicating network communication/modem active lights up after the device has been plugged in for a second or so.

When I go through Network Connections and add a new mobile broadband connection, there is nothing listed in the "Create a connection for this mobile broadband device" drop-down on the first configuration screen - all the guides I've read say that it should be listed here, but none say any debug steps if it doesn't.Some other guides for older versions of Ubuntu and earlier versions of the modem reference a "/usr/share/hal/fdi/information/20thirdparty/20-zte-mf626.fdi"file which I don't have.
