I'm toying around with ubuntu + LTSP. I've managed to get the computers to boot off the network card "eth0". "eth1" is facing the internet. How would I go about the process to bridge the connections so the ltsp clients can access the net?

Right now I have a configuration for eth0. This guide tells me that I should not configure eth0 outside of the br0 configuration.

I was told it was impossible due to low-level limitations in the wireless subsystem, but apparently theres a way if you somehow forward packets from one port to the other. View 1 Replies View RelatedMy current network setup at home is all wired, and that's worked for me so far. Now I want to set up a wireless connection on my Linux box that I can connect to with both my laptop and my Nintendo DS. I'd like to be able to host a wireless network from the Linux box, connect to it with some other wireless device, and have the wireless device communicate with the router, the internet, and other computers on the wired network. I have the wired network set up (statically configured) as eth0. Other network adapters present on the system are eth1 (not in use) and wlan0, wlan1, and wlan2 (identical cards, remnants from the last time I experimented with wireless).
So I guess my question comes in two parts:
1) How do I set up wlan0 such that it can host? Is Ad-hoc mode okay for this, or do I need to set it up in Master mode?
2) How do I forward connections between the wireless net and the router?
Note that I will be using WEP, as it is all that the NDS supports. I'd like to set up MAC filtering as well, but not until after I get something that works.
I recently installed Fedora 15 now, and during installation I set the internet connection manually, then did update and after reboot, the internet connection settings have been removed. Now I can not set because the network connection to the Internet Connection is inactive. I mention that before the update was functional internet connection.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm on opensuse 11.4 (11.3 won't work with my monitor).
My computer gets internet through wireless and I want to share that internet through its ethernet port. So far I've tried using Knetworkmanager to create a network bridge between my wireless and wired connections. I created a new wired connection and shared it using the ip address settings. I was able to get both connections active, but the device hooked up via ethernet had no internet connectivity.
I also tried this command:
echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
but another test resulted in the same fashion (no internet on wired). I believe anything I add to /proc should have an immediate effect, correct?

I've currently got a Xen box with 3 Virtual machines on it, in a routed setup. I'd like to put them all on a private internal network as well, which I'm assuming I'd do with a dummy network card and a xen bridge, but I can't find any information about setting up the xen Bridging setup on top of the existing network-route instlal.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running ubuntu 9.10 on a dell xps m1530 laptop dual booting with windows 7. I am trying to achieve the following setup.
Wireless router <=========> Laptop <-----> Switch <-----> PS3
---- wired
==== wireless
Both laptop and ps3 have static ip addresses
The reason for this is I can connect to the internet on my ps3 through my laptop, and I can stream from my laptop to ps3 through wired connection. This works fine in windows 7 all I had to do was right click bridge connections. As I dual boot I don't want to have to make any changes to the settings on the ps3.
My interfaces are:
eth0 - wired
wlan0 - wireless
I installed bridge-utils and created a bridge and added both eth0 and wlan0 to it. However I could not get it to work. I have also tried internet sharing through network manager and firestarter.
I setup a network bridge on pc A, with windows 7 installed on it, using windows default bridging tool. I connected computer B to computer A and Im trying to connect to the internet through the network bridge on computer A. Computer B (client) has two OS's installed, win XP and linux(tried with different distributions, didnt work). On windows XP everything is working, when i try to ping the router (after computer A) it also responds. On linux system nothing is working, and im not quite sure why.
I set up linux to receive IP adress from DHCP, which is router in this case (behind computer A), same way windows XP was configured. I decided to ask here, because I couldn't find anything on the net. My guess is windows-made bridge supports only windows-OS's but that would be kind of strange (its just a software bridge).

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm working with a Ubuntu 10.04 LTS system with two network interfaces (both Ethernet). I wish to setup this system such that it is simultaneously connected to my local and an OpenVPN network and able direct traffic between the connections depending on what program is sending the traffic. The problem: Under my current OpenVPN configuration all network traffic is directed to the VPN.

In practice, I would like OpenVPN to operate out of one of my two network interfaces and leave the other interface connected to the local network. Then by default all network traffic should be directed to my local network unless I specify (on a per program bases) that certain traffic should go though the VPN. These two network connections can (should) stay completely independent of each other and do not need to talk to each other.
I have no Internet Access with Firefox
I first tried an upgrade from 11.3 to 11.4 and lost Internet Access, so i re-loaded 11.4 from scratch on clean partitions.
I am connected to my wireless WPA2/PSK connection, have an IP, am able to see the network.
I turned off and disabled the SUSE firewall.
I tried setting Firefox proxy settings to auto and to none, i dont use proxy.
I am currently posting this through an SSH connection to my 11.1 server from the new install of 11.4 on a Dell latitude D600 laptop (not using the on-board Broadcomm that is an issue for a later date).
I am running out of ideas anyone got a clue.
I had a google of this but can't find anything useful. I use networkmanager to configure my wireless card. Currently this only works when I'm logged in to KDE. If I log out the system loses the network connection. Is there a way to make it persistent using NetworkManager?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have my box setup as a router/NAT with two different network cards. One for external connection(connected to the Cable Modem) one for internal connection(used for internal DHCP). It works perfectly when I manually activate the two interfaces after booting(both interfaces always show up as inactive after booting), then the DHCP server and firewall. I am confused, however, by which program has control of these interfaces.
First, there is the Network Configuration (System->Administration->Network), which is where I manually start the interfaces after rebooting. Both interfaces are set to "Activate when computer starts" in here.
Second, Network Device control(System->Administration->Network Device Control), which looks to be almost the same thing as the above.
Third, the NetworkManager applet(on the top bar) - both devices show up as unmanaged when I left click on this, but if I set "Controlled by Network Manager" in the "Network configuration" window(number one above), It still does not work. Can I get rid of two of these programs, or is there some way to edit the startup scripts to start my ethernet cards before the dhcp server/firewall(which is shorewall BTW)?
I have two ethernet NIC's on my debian server. One built-in Realtek [eth0] (attached to internet), and a PCI Nvidia ethernet card [eth1] (attached to my Win7 netbook). I used this guide to setup the bridge: url. It worked when I was behind a router. But when I moved the computer in front of the router, to direct connect to the internet, the internet stopped functioning on any device that I plug into my Nvidia NIC. The name of my bridge is 'br0'. Does anyone know how to fix it, so I can route the internet to my second NIC?

I've successfully install kvm with private network (nat) up running. However, the problem is the guest os, which starts with -hda k1.img, can not access to the internet. Is there any step I miss? or it is because wireless does not support bridge (I've heard doc says that wireless does not support wireless bridge)?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just finished a fresh install of 11.3 on an HP 7900 small form factor and have no network connectivity. In Network Tools eth0 shows the state as inactive. Network Connections didn't have a connection, so after letting it create one there is no MAC address. I copied and pasted the MAC address from Network Connections eth0, set up a static address with default gateway, netmask, etc. all set appropriately and rebooted. Still no joy.
I want this to get an address via DHCP, I just set up a static address for testing.11.2 sensed the NIC without issue, but 11.3 doesn't seem to like me right now.I wanted to get this deployed on 40 machines today. Oh well.
network manager isnt showing any network interfaces. ifconfig shows wlan0 and eth0 and internet is working. how can i get network manager to manage those connections?

I have set up my card via Yast and Iam connected directly to the Internet. No proxy.To find where this is located, navigate to:Configure Desktop --> Network Settings --> Network Connections --> Wired tab.

The only way I can make it work again is by setting the interfaces back to
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

and after that put back the br0 settings in the interfaces en restart the network.
I have a debian squeeze box with dual NICs that I'm trying to configure with two virtual hosts. I'd like to have one of these machines act as a router for the 2nd NIC so I can plug in a switch and have a separate subnet.
Something like:
- Openwrt router 192.168.1.1 (firewall/vpn/stats for 192.168.1.0/24 domain)
- KVM machine with 2 NICs (192.168.1.2)
- Virtual machine #1 has a fixed IP of 192.168.1.3 (virtual nic)
- Virtual machine #2 has a fixed IP of 192.168.1.4 (virtual nic) but also controls the 2nd nic and routes 192.168.80.0/24
I'd like to use the 192.168.80.0/24 network for testing equipment without poisoning my existing network.
I have installed VMWare on my laptop. Host operating system - Opensuse 11
Two virtual machines - Both of them have Opensuse 11 as Guest Operating System.
When I start both virtual machines I get the following message.
"Message from <local host name> : The network bridge on device vmnet0 is not running. The virtual machine will not be able to communicate with the host or with other machines on your network. Virtual device Ethernet0 will start disconnected"
I cannot ping to another Virtual machine from one virtual machine. I get "Host Unreachable" message.
