Hardware :: NIC Card Does Not Appear In Red Hat Enterprise / Solve This?

When I try to see whether my nic card is available or not typing command ifconfig.It doesn't show me my NIC card(eth0) information except loop back(lo) information.So how can I activate my nic card in rhel5 so that i can setup ip address in nic card(eth0).But it is to inform you that when i check network device it shows me that it is installed but not active.so please help me to solve this problem.it is very urgent.

The message I get when I try and activate is "3c501 device eth0 does not seem to be present. delaying initialization."
Does anybody know what cards are compatible without downloading drivers and other such exercises?

I'm running 10.10, I just recently installed a new graphics card, a Radeon HD4670, Ubuntu loads, and after it's finished loading, it goes to a black screen, and stops loading. I previously was using a nVidia 6200.

I use Ubuntu 9.04 and try to get a Sweex LW053 USB wireless card (Ralink RT73/RT2500 chipset) to work. According to the Wiki list in the sticky thread, this one should work "out of the box" since 8.04.
lsusb delivers
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 148f:2573 Ralink Technology Corp. RT2501USB Wireless Adapter
and there is also some wlan0 entry that doesn't look too dodgy when typing ifconfig.
From this I get that my laptop recognizes the card.
I also typed in some numbers such as SSID and DNS server address in Preferences>Network Connections where asked (although the information that I had wasn't 100% what was asked for so I tried to guess what needs to be filled in which fields).
However, I don't get an internet connection (Firefox can't find server...)
What else do I have to (or can I) do?

linux and have installed ubuntu dual boot windows 7 on a new el1384 e.machine. The first issue I had was not being able to see boot text such as the bios or os boot menu due to a "signal out of range" on the monitor (also new). I installed startup manager and am now able to boot windows if I need it (but only because startup manager is high resolution, the monitor/or onboard nvidia does not want to display bios/boot low res text. The second issue I have been having is you tube freezing the system. If I remember correctly (not at home pc now) I removed nvidia driver, tried ..... again, reinstalled, same thing, rebooted same thing, but havent got much further than that.
I like fast and enjoy hq video and sometimes hook into a projector. So might an aftermarket video card surpass or deal with these issues?With a new card I will be using a decent new hdmi cable, so I will be using a different connection to the monitor. However I am not ruling out a video card that only has vga. so any thoughts on this or suggestions for low profile pci express x16 or 5 graphics card that will fit in the small emachine, run on the 220w power supply, work easily with ubuntu, and is under 50$?? (i am ok with going back into windows to mount the video card)

I have read just about every page about the UEC project, and I now know everything about it, except... WHAT IT DOES! I can't seem to find a coherent example of what it does. To the best of my understanding, it runs a virtual machine across multiple servers. Allowing the VM to use the RAM, CPU, and HDD resourced on all servers involved.

This has been a problem and desipite my best efforts I am at a loss to explain what is happening.
I am running a Suse 11 box and I will be storing some automated backups on an XP box. The Suse box is hosting a samba domain to which the xp box is a member.
For the moment the share permissions are wide open while I troubleshoot (everyone full access on the xp share) I can mount the share no problem on the Suse box and even read the contents. If I attempt to write to the share though I get permission denied (logged in as root at the moment)
I created the mount point using mkdir -p /media/backup
Then I mounted the share using mount -t cifs //172.16.16.245/backup /media/backup -o username=root, -o password=XXXXXXX
share on the XP box is also called backup (just in case there was any confusion regarding the mount command I used)
if I run an ls -l on the mount point afterwords I can see my files already in the share no problem. I would be very greatful if anyone can point out what I have done wrong so I can get this fixed once and for all. Thank you in advance.
I should probably also mention that both systems are on the same lan and at the moment firewalls are down until this is fixed.

I have one hard disk partitioned into four logical drives.
1.20gb for red hat 5 //installed after installing window xp
2.40gb for Win xp //Installed first
3.40gb not formatted yet
4.more than 50gb for data storage.
After all the installation,I can just boot Red hat 5 but it shows the prompt for window xp also to boot in boot selection screen.When I entered for window to boot,I have this message-

The solution should be capable to use intranet only (no communication should traverse the inernet). It would be of an advantage if it would support conferencing. And if it's possible it'd be fine if it'd be free.
One solution which comes to my mind is jabber, but I do not have any experience with it... what's your oppinion on that? What other solutions are there?

Installation of CVS on Redhat linux
Installing CVS on Redhat Linux Redhat Enterprise 4.0
The following steps give simple steps to install CVS software on Redhat Enterprise Linux 4.0.
1) Download the tarball cvs-1.11.1p1.tar.gz
2) Run "gunzip cvs-1.11.1p1.tar". You will get file called cvs-1.11.1p1.tar.
3) Then extract this file using command
"tar -xvf cvs-1.11.1p1.tar".
4) Then go to directory cvs-1.11.1p1.
5) There you will find a file called INSTALL. Read it once carefully.
6) Now run the command "./configure."
7) Build it using the command "make".
8) Install binaries/documentation using command "make install".
9) Now open file called /etc/services and add the following lines.
Cvspserver 2401/tcp # CVS client/server operations
cvspserver 2401/udp # CVS client/server operations
10) Open file called /etc/xinetd.conf and add the following lines to that file.
service cvspserver
{
Port = 2401
socket_type = stream
protocol = tcp
wait = no
user = root
passenv =
server = /opt/bin/cvs
server_args = --allow-root=/home/cvs -f pserver
env = HOME=/home/cvs
log = /var/log/cvslog
}
11) Space on both sides of = in the above file is a must.
12) Restart xinetd services by running command " services xinted restart "
13) Check whether CVS is running on the port 2401 by using the following command "nmap IP |grep 2401". If the CVS server is running correctly it will give output as "2401/tcp open cvspserver ".
It doesn't output like "2401/tcp open cvspserver"

I have a problem in connecting from windows xp OS to the REDHAT LINUX through vncviewer. The first connection works fine. However, if I want to add more than one connection by establishing the hostname:2 through vncviewer, it stops working. I have tried modifying the file /etc/sysconfig/vncservers to add more than one allowable connections. It still fails...

I just want to ask if anyone knows how to setup SAN storage on Red Hat Enterprise. I am quite familiar on doing this in AIX with IBM DS8000 but not sure on how to do in RH. Does RHE have volume management the same as AIX or do you need to install a third party Veritas Volume Manager. I know you will ask me to search in google but I am writing so that I will be pointed to the right direction.

I am trying to initilaize auditing on a Red Hat 5.2 enterprise server. Things like:
/sbin/chkconfig audit on
/etc/audit/audit.rules
/var/log/audit/audit.log
are what I am looking at, but I need to know where things go to start the audit service. A simple example with all of the pieces set to audit, then I can add rules to match requirements.
