Hardware :: Getting Acer 5536 Built-in Modem Conexant CX11270 To Work With Efax-gtk?

Nov 13, 2010

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 on Acer Aspire 5536. Used efax-gtk debian unstable package v3.2.3 to send a .ps file. Even by running software with root privileges the output is:

Code:

Socket running on port 9900
efax-0.9a: 11:28:27 opened /dev/ttyS1
efax-0.9a: 11:28:27 Error: tcgetattr on fd=7 failed: Input/output error

[code]....

Decided to first get ride of input output error. using sudo wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf command:

Code:

Editing `/etc/wvdial.conf'. Scanning your serial ports for a modem.

Modem Port Scan<*1>: S0 S1 S2 S3

If you still have problems, send mail to <wvdial-list@lists.nit.ca>. Using setserial command returned a huge syntax text. Modem is recognized under windows and it is HDA CX11270 Softmodem. How can I get it to work?

Fedora Hardware :: Acer Aspire One - Built-in Card Reader?

Jan 1, 2009

I have an Acer Aspire One running Fedora 10.The Aspire One has a built in multi-format memory card reader compatible with SDHC, XD, Memory Stick Pro and MMC cards, however the card reader is only detected during bootup if a card is inserted otherwise the device isn't detected, the relevant drivers aren't loaded and the card reader doesn't work.

In other words if Fedora is booted without a card in the reader and I then want to use the card reader I have to insert a card and reboot in order to use it, after which cards can be inserted & removed and are detected and automounted with no problems. When the card reader is working lsmod shows the following modules are loaded.

[Code]...

If the laptop is booted without a card in the reader none this shows up. I've also tried manually loading the mmc_core, mmc_block, sdhci, memstick & jmb38x_ms modules to see if this kicks the reader into life but it doesn't. Is there a way of forcing the detection of this device during bootup?

Fedora Installation :: Getting Sudo Insults To Work - Not Built Into The Rpm

Jan 21, 2009

I'm running into an issue on my fedora installations getting sudo insults to work. I'm fairly new to the distro, but in other distros, I just had to add insults to the Defaults line within visudo. Then I could sudo -K to reset my sudo session and it worked.

Since I installed sudo from yum, I suppose it's possible that insult support is not built into the rpm. I'm sure others got it working and I was hoping not to have to manually compile sudo with insults support as I don't want to break yum for updates/upgrades. If that's the only option, I'm more than happy to go that route, just would like it as a last resort.

Ubuntu :: Asrock Ion Built In IR Wont Work With The Drivers?

Jun 15, 2010

Ever since newer karmic kernels 2.6.31-21 and 2.6.31-22 the Asrock ion built in IR wont work with the drivers Asrock provides even though they have since then provided drivers for 10.04, which still doesnt fix the issues with the remote (just doesnt work)

THE PROBLEM

The solution is of course to downgrade kernel to 2.6.31-20 #58 which remote works fine and newer script version introduces a fix to this. However looking at the available packages seems that most of the kernel 2.6.31-20 is no longer available to re-install.

e.g. linux-headers linux-image-wireless-backports etc etc were able to get a fairly working 2.6.31-20 but most of that kernel version ike I said s no longer available.

So question is. Can anyone shed light where to find the missing 2.6.31-20 #58 stuff so we have access to a full downgrade? Any information taht could help get a full downgrade to 2.6.31-20 #58.

Hardware :: Getting The Built-in Webcam To Work On An Asus X83Vb-X2 With Ubuntu 9.04?

Jun 29, 2009

I'm having trouble with the webcam on my laptop. This is a full-sized laptop, not one of the Eee models.I'm not entirely sure what the model or chipset of the webcam is, as there doesn't seem to be much documentation available (as far as I know, this is Asus' first foray into the laptop market in the US).

I previously had the camera working just fine in Windows Vista, so I know the hardware is just fine. I have tried several programs to get the device working, and some (Cheese, for example) are able to get the green light next to the camera to turn on. I've tried running a number of programs as both the normal user and as root, but I don't seem to be able to get the camera to output video. I didn't see any drivers on the Asus site. Is anyone able to lend a hand with this? I'm moving out of the country in a month, and would really love to be able to keep in touch with my family and friends over skype or something similar.

EDIT: In programs like Cheese, the webcam seems to be detected as "USB2.0 UVC PC Camera (/dev/video0)". I imagine it's a good sign that video0 is available.

BIOS upgraded but wouldn't fix, searched but couldn't find any talk about this.I wonder if anyone had experienced the same problem. Ubuntu Multimedia :: Getting HDMI Audio Out To Work On Acer 5738

Aug 29, 2010

For the benefit of all other users i am specifying the steps i followed to get HDMI audio to work after a lot of toil.

Laptop configuration: Acer 5738 Ubuntu (10.04) Lucid Lynx

visit the link [URL] and read specifically the HDMI Audio section. Don't worry if you are unable to test for the sound. Connect the HDMI cable from the laptop to your LCD tv. This should be trivial. Make sure you switch your TV to HDMI input from its menu options. After enabling the HDMI configurations on your laptop using Step 1. Click on System--> Preferences --> Sound. Click on the Hardware tab. By default it might be set to Analog Stereo Duplex. Go to Output tab. Change the Connector drop down from Analog Speakers to Analog Headphones. Go back to Hardware tab and select Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output. Function+F5 would direct the video output to your TV. Incase you have a problem redirecting your video output to the TV. Restart your machine with the HDMI cable connected to your TV. With the configurations you would be able to hear sound from your TV. Have a blast! I have tried this with Acer 5738 it might work with other Laptop configurations as well.

Ubuntu :: Brightness Keys Don't Work On Acer Aspire 5740

Sep 23, 2010

Quote:

SOLVED (for my laptop at least - Acer Aspire 5740)

The trick was to add "acpi_osi=" (without the quotation marks) to the GRUB parameters. Setting the parameter to an empty string means that no OS is reported to the BIOS. By default acpi_osi is set to Windows NT. I had previously tried "acpi_osi=Linux" but it didn't work, apparently it had to be an empty string. The brightness keys work now I think it might work for other models as well if they have core i3 processors.

OpenSUSE Network :: 11.2 - Acer 5739G With Intel Wifi 5100 Do Not Work

They both work perfect but for some reason the wireless (intel wifi 5100 AGN) and my wired network card (Atheros AR8131 Gigabyte controller)do not work in opensuse. Now the problem is that I do not have a clue about linux and therefore I don't know how to fix the problem. I searched the forum and I tried these commands "sudo /sbin/ifdown eth0" and "sudo /sbin/ifup wlan0" and both says something like device not connected/present (can't remeber exactly).
