I am running fully updated ubuntu 10.10 and now, since 2 days ago, when I open a file
in open office, gimp or gedit etc the directories and files now appear in reverse alphabetical order.

Here is what I have so far.The program receives and echos characters without syscalls. I am trying to add 2 procedures(rev7 and putint)Rev7: Reverses the least significant 7 bits and outputs $s2Putint: Prints the decimal value of $s2.When i run it, it echos the character then prints a "P". I have no idea where that comes from.Everything seems correct to me but I do not understand why it does not print the decimal digits
Code:
.data
hello:.asciiz "Enjoy This Program

I'm trying to write an extension to PHP which means coding in C. I'm really really rusty at C coding and was never very good at it.
Can anyone propose an efficient, safe, and [hopefully] future-proof way of reversing a double? Keep in mind that it should work on as many systems as possible and on 32- and 64-bit systems (and on ???-bit systems in the future?). Will the size of a 'double' ever change or will it always be 8 bytes?
I've tried this and it doesn't work...the compiler complains about "invalid operands to binary" because I'm trying bitwise shiftw on a non-integer.
Code:
x = (x>>56) |
((x<<40) & 0x00FF000000000000) |
((x<<24) & 0x0000FF0000000000) |
((x<<8) & 0x000000FF00000000) |
[Code]....

I'm curious as to whether anyone else has experienced this, and has an explanation. I'm running Kile 2.0.85 under openSUSE 11.3 32-bit on a Lenovo X61. Twice in the past couple of days I've had the bizarre experience that, upon a sudden burst of typing my text has appeared in Kile in reverse order.
no ngis fo ecnacifingis eht fo redaer eht dnimer esaelp ,dniw cihportsoeG a htiw snoitalumis eht gnicudortni erehw ,Note the perfect reversal (I rarely type that accurately in forward mode). A day later it happened again: )1.3.5( noitceS fo hpargarap dnoces eht ni ,niaga ecnO.I've been using Kile for almost a year now, on two different machines and under several versions of openSUSE. Nothing remotely like this has happened before. I don't think I have a virus. I can't think of any event that may have heralded this mystical behaviour. Cheers, jdw

Interesting problem: For the first time with Xubuntu 10.10 64bit, I am finding certain applications print corrupt. A varying amount of letters / numbers either get substituted/print a blank space/ print a box etc etc. This corruption seems to happen from a Pdf ( evince ) or Spreadheet ( Gnumeric ) Opening the same Pdf on another machine (ubuntu 10.10 32bit) prints perfectly. Opening the same .xls file on the original computer but using OOo Calc prints perfectly.
I guess I have ruled out any problems with the printer itself or the network JetDirect box. I have re-installed CUPS and evince and upgraded to the latest version of HPLIP but the problem appears unchanged.

I cannot print pdf files. I have tried using okular and xpdf. The documents display in the program, but print preview shows a blank page. The printer then sends out blank pages. I have tried printing on 2 different printers using usb cables. Using terminal to process the commands shows error:
Quote:
xxx@xxx:~$ xpdf
***** MediaBox = ll:0,0 ur:611.976,791.968
***** CropBox = ll:0,0 ur:611.976,791.968
***** Rotate = 0
Segmentation fault
Converting to .ps also is blank.

My wife has a canon MP470 printer and running ubuntu 10.10. I am able to print black and white, but unable to print photos. I got it to work using another driver, but not the 'correct' one for this printer. I have searched a bit and don't see anything about ubuntu 10.10, just older versions. Or should I just network her to my printer....?

I initially had a problem accessing the CUPS interface (see my other post) and got that resolved by adding the user "cupsys". Now, everything "looks" ok, and when I print a test page, it shows it as completed (in CUPS). However, the page never prints.
The printer is a Canon MP600 (using the canonmp600en.ppd file to configure it). Here's the output of my conf file.
Code:
# Show troubleshooting information in error_log.
LogLevel debug

I'm running Kubuntu 10.10 with a Laserjet 5M printer. When I attempt to print a job from Firefox or from Okular, the job never gets onto the print queue. However, I can print test pages on the printer and also print from OpenOffice, so this seems to be app-dependent. I know the jobs aren't being queued because the job number doesn't increase (as shown by the jobs for the test pages). Both Firefox and Ocular give every indication that the print job has been processed correctly.

Not sure when CUPS started acting up. I have the latest 13.1 current software installed. The first page to print is always OK, but all succeeding pages are overwritten. The second page shows the first page on top of it, and the third shows the preceding pages on top of it - and so on. Has anyone else seen this problem?I guess the printer buffer is not getting flushed correctly. If my configurations were trashed in some way, I don't know where to look for a fix.

How can I combine multiple single page prints into a single print job? For example, using Firefox on Linux one can print a web page such that each sheet of paper has four pages printed upon it. I would like to combine several separate web pages so that for example, web-page-a, web-page-b and web-page-c (each less than one print page long) are printed on a single sheet of paper.
I would like to do this without having to use some form of image editor to combine and manage manually created temporary files.

Our one remaining problem seems to be printing. She has an HP OfficeJet 6500 USB printer. We have the computer conntected. Strangely, when I boot from the CD the printer shows up as installed even though I did nothing to install it. After having submitted a print job it shows the printer status as "idle" and the print queue is empty. I tried deleting that printer and re-installing. The installation went as one would expect. However the results are the same. I'm beginning to think that somehow the problem is related to the fact that we are operating from the live CD. getting this thing to print from the live CD.

I am running 9.10. I have a HP Photosmart 7350 printer. I have it installed and printing. But the issue I am dealing with is that it will print a full page and then print a blank page..then a full page..then a blank page. Actually they aren't completely blank..it shows half of "2 of 6" or whatever page it is on. Like it cuts that in half and prints the 2nd half of "2 of 6" onto a separate new page.

getting a reverse proxy to work. I have it working fine on my windows box with at32 Reverse Proxy. It was very easy to setup. Anyway I'm wanting to replace that windows box with a Linux box. Here is some background on what I'm trying to get done in Linux.
I have
[url].....
All pointing with a CNAME to my dyndns.org address. I have a dynamic IP from my ISP so I need this and its currently working just fine.my ISP blocks port 80 so I have to use port 443. Port 443 seems to be the most reliable port to use since its one of the ports my ISP does not block and its one of the ports other places like hotels dont block. So I want to access my bittorrent server. I type in http:[url]....443 and the at32 Reverse Proxy points it to my internal server http://bittorrent on port 80.
I got this to work perfect in windows. So right now I'm doing this all in a virtual machine for testing. I have Apache all setup and working with the reverse proxy except for my thermostat's web server. Here is how I have it setup in the virtual machine. The machine is called testbox and its running Ubuntu Alt 10.04 32bit .In that VM I can go to http: // testbox but it will only display the HTML code of the page.If I go directly to the main page on the thermostat http://testbox/index.shtml the web page renders just fine and all the links work.My sites-available config file has this inside.
<VirtualHost testbox:80>
ProxyPass / http://192.168.0.205/
ProxyPassReverse / http://192.168.0.205/
</VirtualHost>
The config file is for port 80 but I think once I get things working in the testbox I should not have any problems switching it to port 443.

A first server with apache2 installed and configured as reverse proxy, that works great, with this version:
That works mostly, but fail with an oma (outlook mobile access) redirection
It works for all reverse sites hosted, but when we try to connect to oma using a nokia phone, it fails.
I can see in access.log that it hangs on FolderSync istance.
I've used wireshark to sniff packets, and in oma server I can see only three way handshaking coming...
My doubt is: when I'll upgrade working server, also it will not work anymore...
Configurations are the same (I've copied /etc/apache2 folder from running one to new one).

I am currently running 64-bit Windows 7 from my home laptop and I would like to establish an SSH reverse tunnel to my laptop from my work Ubuntu 64-bit machine. I have been reading many "tutorials" that have led me nowhere and I feel as though I'm chasing my tail now. I have done the following on my Ubuntu machine:
Code:
ssh -R 19999:localhost:22 laptop_ip
and on my Windows machine, using putty, did the following:
Code:
Host Name: host_IP
[Code]...
I am able to access my Ubuntu machine when on my work network but there I have been unsuccessful when it comes to trying to remotely access it. I have tried everything that I can think of (though I am a novice). If there is any help/suggestions/ideas that could help, please let me know and don't hesitate to ask for more info!
p.s. I would also like to enable x-forwarding, but for now I would like to have remote access to the Ubuntu machine.

I have a project that I'm working on now that is using Ubuntu 8.04LTS to create a reverse SSH proxy for a telnet process. We have the box logging in with RSA keys so that it can automatically connect to the SSH host on our end. We are using autossh to keep the connection up and running.
We have rolled out 3 of these and they are working very well. We ghosted the original, changed the hostname, changed the IP info, and regenerated the SSH keys. Now I need to clone 35 more. I want to try to do this as efficiently as possible and can script the changes in the hostname, IP, ect.
Can I batch create RSA keypairs on my workstation and then copy them over as a part of the batch? My current other option is to login to each of them and generate the pair. I would like to just install the drive and ship it and not even have to boot it up.
