I have run a CD/DVD burner program (cdrecord) on a blank DVD and I got the following message.

What can the program be referring to with "prerecorded disk"?
From the terminal, or a script, how can I determine the media type (CDDA, DVD, ISO, etc) of a mounted optical disc? I need this for an automated script on my headless media server - Fedora 12 64bit.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy girlfriend has a dual boot netbook I set up for her with Vista + 9.10. Her internet service went down yesterday temporarily and she was messing around with the computer to get back online and somehow booted into the Windows Rescue Partition and began the Windows Restore process, then turned the computer off during the middle of the restore process.It's her only computer and she lives 1800 miles away. And since it's a netbook there's no optical drive.
When she boots up now, the netbook goes straight into Grub Rescue mode. I got her to try most of the commands for Grub Rescue, but most of them come back as "Unknown Command". The "LS" command works though, and she was able to get a list of partitions displayed.Does anyone know of some commands she could use try to boot back into 9.10 (assuming it's still there)? Or even boot into Windows? Specifically, is there a simple command that could be combined with "LS" to specify a partition and try to boot into it?
I'm trying to get a script to run whenever an optical disc is mounted by the system but can't get it to work. I'm running Fedora 12 64bit and the drive is SATA device sr0.
Following online guides, I created a new rule file called '10-my.rules' in '/etc/udev/rules.d' which contains the following:

But nothing happens when a disc is mounted. The script itself runs fine manually and is clearly evident when launched so the problem must be the rule file. I've tried changing the name of the rule file in a few incremental steps from 10-my.rule to 99-my.rule to no effect.
I've gathered some information about my optical drive using the udevadm tool.

Discs are read by the drive when inserted (they are spun and the LED light on the drive lights up) but nothing happens after that.
I disconnected the SATA cable and tried a new SATA cable on a different SATA port and also tried a different SATA power cable but that did not fix anything.
I dont know when k3b stopped working but have just gone to burn a disk and when opening it tells me

I can boot from cd and can mount cds from within Slackware but for some reason k3b insists that i don't have a drive.

Optical Out from my TV into the SPDIF / Optical In on my PC
Optical Out from my PC into my Sony 5.1 Theatre Kit
The audio from the PC comes through ok when listening to music and movies. But unfortunately I can figure out how to enable the audio passthrough from my Tv so that the audio comes out of my theatre kit. In Sound Preferences, the hardware is set to 1 Output / 1 Input [Digital Stereo (IEC95 Output + Digital Stereo (IEC95 Input]. When I click on the audio tab, the Input Volume is at 100% and the Input Level is moving in conjunction with the audio coming from the Tv.
I saw it mentioned in another thread to install Gnome Alsa Mixer which I've done, it seeems to identify the audio chipset as Realtek ALC882, the motherboard is an Abit AB9 Pro. Hopefully I'm missing some config somewhere or there a box I should be ticking but I just can't find it.
Are there any live CD/DVDs out there which are setup for DVD authoring? I am having trouble getting all the dependencies & everything working right.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to author a dvd, using an xvid avi. I've tried several authoring programs (the last I tried was 2manDVD). Every time I add the file to the project, it comes up as being 102 seconds long, when it is really something like 42 minutes.
I do have things set up enough that the file plays well in a media player on the computer.
Also, what is the best program to use for this sort of thing (taking an xvid file and converting/burning it so I can pop it in the dvd player). On windows I used to use the Windows DVD maker application, which was clunky and terrible but got the job done!
I have a 7 GB VOB file which I created from a DVD using ffmpeg dump to remove CSS protection (it is legal where I live to do so). Now, I want to create a DVD/.iso that will be understood by regular DVD players/appliances. How do I do it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just installed 11.3 x64. The installation went fine and worked for the first few hours. I ran the online update tool, and now it cannot find grub unless the installation disc is inserted and I select the "boot from hard disc" option.
I have read about the problem of the root partition being back, but not sure that's it.

There used to be a repair tool in the installation disks. I could not find that in this media. Is that still available?
this blew my mind today, because i've been using ubuntu for 2 and half years. Brasero 2.28.2 in Karmic does not have an option enable multisessions when burning disc or import a disc which has a multisession.
Seriously, wtf is going on? This is supposed to be Ubuntu's default CD authoring software.
I'm trying to install files and everytime I manage to install from the first disc I succeed. When I get the the second disc I just keep clicking the "OK" button instead of "Cancel" and it keeps neglecting it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI want burn a complete normal DVD that can be played in an normal DVD player. My source file is capsuled in .mp4 and about 1.3 GB large. I have tried to use mandvd1, mandvd2, bombono DVD and KMediaFactory.
mandvd doesnt produce the correct output: I every time get an error-message that says there is a problem with the menu-creation. I have installed the latest package of DVDauthor. mandvd2 doesnt work at all: The rendering process is completed after 6 seconds.
I cant start KMEdiaFactory: "KMediaFactory uses "MJPEG Tools (mpeg2enc)", and this has not been found on your system. You must install this before KMediaFactory can continue." However mpjec tools are installed.bombono DVD doesntt create an iso but a corrupt mpeg file. I really need good advice here, I cant fix it alone. I never could solve a single problem with the community. I think now its time to start.

I have AMD athlon 64 processor, Seagate 160GB SATA Hard Disk, ASUS A8VMX mother board.With this configuration, I can Install FC7 without any error. But all the latest releases after FC7 is not detecting my Hard disk. Is there any solution to solve this problem? Actually I'm searching for a solution when the FC8 released.
