View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed Ubuntu on MSI laptop. Works great. I am trying to connect the laptop to external screen through the VGA output. When the laptop's lid is open - it works just fine When the laptop's lid is closed - the VGA output content is gone. i didn't find tin the monitors' menu nor in the power menu, an entry where I can ask or set the VGA output to be active all the time.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have tried to connect my GMA500 based Acer 751 to an external dsiplay via VGA connection. I couldn't get the right resolution on the external screen (1920/1080) so I disconnected it and rebooted. Now there is only an "unknown" screen in the display menu. I have rewritten the xorg conf file per instructions for enabling GMA500 but to no avail - conf file looks right but screen is "unknown", low resolution and 4:3 aspect ratio, instead of 16:9. How to restore to laptop monitor - I think I can take from there to enable the right resolution.

When connecting from external box to this server on port 25, the connection is properly blocked by UFW but i can't find any UFW log (/var/log/kern.log, /var/log/messages, /var/log/ufw.log ...). I'm using default rsyslog.
I have a few computers all connected to the same router both wireless and wired. All at the moment are running Ubuntu. There is no problem sharing any of these computer's local drives through the network. However I have one desktop with an external USB Hard disc plugged into it. I would like to share this external hard disc on the network. I set it up to share but when I try and access it from one of the other computers on the network, although it shows up, I get the message "Unable to mount location. Failed to mount windows share".
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using a netbook, and I thought I'd connect a monitor I had in the closet and see how things went. I can get a decent multi-desktop setup working, but it comes with an unusual side effect. I don't know if it's of any significance, but these weird shadows appear on all windows, menus and panels. I deativated any Compiz effects I thought might be arcing up, but that didn't seem to do anything.
For what it's worth, I tried this monitor in KDE and it seems to work fine. Netbook Edition promptly soiled itself and went into deep shock with the monitor plugged in, however -- both screens flickering, Docky spasming out of control. But I digress! The netbook is a HP Mini 210 and I believe this monitor is a Mitsubishi Diamond View DV173.
Just installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS netbook edition and everything goes well except for one thing.
When I connect my lcd monitor to the vga port the system lags. If I listen to music and browse web pages at the same time, the sound skip and when the page stop loading, music is ok. Also, the mouse skip. If I do circle with it on the desktop without doing anything else, it will skip.
The strange thing if I remove the external monitor and reboot the system everything comes back to normal.
I had Intrepid Ibex for 2 years without any problems. I remember a post saying that powernowd should be disable, but can't find the process from the startup list anymore.
I am running the latest Ubuntu on a partition with windows 7 as my main OS. I got my wireless drivers installed and it seems to pick up on all the wireless networks, whenever i try to connect to mine it tires and then fails and asks for the password again, even though its definatly the right password for my wireless.
I am also having trouble connecting to my external hard drive, i am completely new with Linux and would appreshiate -retard proof- tutorials if you need me to run anything, and such. Its fully updated and drivers are up to date (apparently) so i cant understand what is wrong.
Is it better to use a Usb to Serial Adapter Cable or a PCI Serial Port Card when attaching a serial port modem to a computer that doesn't provide onboard serial ports?I am leaning toward the USB to Serial Cable but do they work as well as a Serial Port Card? I have a US Robotics business class external serial modem that that I'd like to keep using for dialup internet connections. Here are the devices I am thinking of using:
USB To Serial Cable: KINAMAX CB-RS232 (Prolific Chipset)
PCI Adapter Card: SYBA SD-PCI 15024 --single port chipset=SB16C1052PC1

How do I tell php to send an email with mail() using an external mail server?
The situation: I've got apache/php running a webserver on my local machine. It's for dev purposes only, and the website files I'm using are checked out from our SVN. This lets me make changes to our website while not actually changing our website.
I've come across an issue I'm fixing where I need to verify that an email is successfully getting sent out, and unfortunately, this email is sent out using php's mail(), and not our website's usual $mail object. Unfortunately, I don't have the authority to change how this sends out right now, just when it sends out.
I've been running everything fine on my machine for a month now, and haven't needed the mail stuff until now. How do I tell php to send an email using an external server?
im having problems connecting mybook 2 with my laptop. Everything was ok and running perfectly and there was no changes in my laptop or upgrades and it stop working. I was not able to see the computers in my network then I fixed it I can see them but when I try to browse the files the OS tells me that is unable to mount location and failed to retrieve share list from server. The funny part is that if I go to Places>Connect to server and type my mybook ip address, my laptop can connect and I can browse the files. I really dont know what is the problem. My firewall is down so I dont think that is the problem. If anyone can help me with these because I know im able to connect to my mybook but i am unable to connect to any other laptop or my WD-Tv live.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a seagate SATA hard drive that was running a mythtv distro. It had 3 partitions, EXT3, swap, and XFS. I started having I/O errors on boot and saw error messages on both the EXT3 and the XFS partitions. I also heard some clunking sounds on the drive when it was reading, so I thought hell, the drive is dead.
I have since replaced the drive and everything is back up and running on the replacement drive. I thought hell, the seagate drive is toast, but I just want to verify it with some sort of tool. I have the hard drive in a Vantec NexStar external hard drive case (SATA->USB) and found there was a tool called badblocks. Ran badblocks on it, which ran for 24ish hours and found no bad blocks. I also didn't notice any clunking sounds while it was running.
I ran
Code:
badblocks -n -v /dev/sdb
Is badblocks a proper test to run on external hard drives or was I just wasting my time? Is there any way that I can really test it without removing it and connecting it with SATA to the motherboard?
I'm using Postgresql 8.4.2-2. I'm trying to remote into my server securely. I figure I could do so with ssh. Apparently I figured correctly, as per, [URL] and [URL] I setup the ssh tunnel. ssh -L 5432:serverip:5432 Then I setup pgadmin3 to connect as follows:
host: localhost
port: 5432
user: postgres
maintenance db: postgres
And I receive the following error:
An error has occurred: Quote: An error has occurred: Error connecting to the server: server closed the connection unexpectedly This probably means the server terminated abnormally before or while processing the request.
I'm not sure what the problem is. I can connect with Code: psql from the cli after connecting to the terminal via ssh. So I know that I'm using the correct password.
I have got a running mail server on CentOS5.4 Final using Zimbra free edition. . Assume that domain is organization.com.local And it is running fine with users created and bugzilla running on the same machine can send mails using this server. But it can obviously send messages to the internal users. There is this option to configure it to use external mail server to send mails outside the network but my external smtp server needs an authentication. Is it possible to configure it this way to use my external server to send mails from internal domain to say gmail?

I am having problems connecting to my VNC server. The host machine is running fedora core 15.
In the past I have been able to connect to the machine, but for some I no longer can't.
I have done the following but still am unsure what problem is
1. Verfied the VNC server is running
2. Verified my user "trb" is in the vnc users list
3. I have checked that my port is open (at least i think). i launched a terminal and did "telnet 127.0.0.1 5902" and successfully connected.

I've set up an FTP server with vsFTPd, and I can connect when on the same machine that the server is running. However, when attempting to connect from another machine on the internet, or even on the same LAN, the connection always fails. Port forwarding on the router is enabled.
When attempting to connect over the internet via FileZilla, this is displayed:

After searching the forum I could not find a clear answer to my question so I am giving it a try...
I have installed a LAMP server with Postfix as mail server. The scripts send email as user www-data using the mail server on the same machine.
However, the email got rejected by external mail servers (failed reverse DNS check) so I setup a mail server that meets all needed requirements.
Now I would like to use this second server instead of the mail server on the LAMP server. I found that this could be done with changing sendmail settings in php.ini (I think).
However I am not sure how that will go: www-data is no actual user on the new email server (which requires authentication before sending). Do I need to create a new user on the email server or change the settings in php.ini to match an existing user?
I wanted to set up a secure FTP server with proftpd so I can put some large files on the web for my pops. Here is my problem, I use a clearwire modem that won't allow you to change any of the settings but appears to have some pre-set firewalling capabilities. I also have a linksys wireless router connected to the modem. That firewall has all the port forwarding settings ready to go, and there hasn't been an issue with anything else, so here it goes.
I have a properly configured secure FTP setup with proftpd and the client app I'm using is Filezilla. I know it is configured right because I was able to use the FTP server via my LAN. Maybe my logic is wrong but, I was connecting to the FTP server at it's IP on the LAN of 192.168.1.5:21. If I wanted my pops to connect from out of state I would give him the ip the internet sees when I surf the web, right? Looks something like this 68.44.22.113. I should tell him to configure Filezilla to connect to 68.44.22.113:21. If my logic is wrong, please let me know, because when I try to do this I get an error that says connection refused by host.
just now i installed telnet on my VPS. but while connecting to other server it gives error
# telnet 10.10.10.224 Trying 10.10.10.224... Connected to 10.10.10.224 (10.10.10.224). Escape character is '^]'. Connection closed by foreign host.
My next problem is: how in hell do you connect to a file server in Ubuntu???I have a plain little 1/2TB file server connected to my router. My Mac has no problems connecting to it.My Win 7 laptop has no trouble connecting to it. BUT... Ubuntu can't seem to find it at all. I have tried every bloody thing I can think of to tell it the server... name, Mac address, IP Address.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a CUPS server on Debian, I am trying to connect from an Ubuntu 8.04 box. Here is my CUPS configuration file on Debian just in case it is usefull:
Code:
LogLevel warning
SystemGroup lpadmin
# Allow remote access
Port 631

When I try to add a printer I have set up in CUPS from my Ubuntu box, it asks for the password for katie (this is the user that is logged in on ubuntu box) on 192.168.1.200 (CUPS Debian Box). The problem is, I don't have a katie user set up on the debian box, am I supposed to for this to work. Why is it even prompting for a password? Also, it won't let me change the name so that I can authenticate with a different user, it is not in a text box.

[INFO]/72.52.102.33:[random 5 digit port] lost connection NONstop
I port scanned them and i think its not a person but some service or server type buisness.
I use a linksys router, i couldnt find anything on blocking IP's at the router from the outside.
Is there anything i can do to stop them before the get to this server to login?
