Hardware :: Best Place To Get NVidia Video Driver Update CentOS 5.5?

Jan 27, 2011

What is the best place to get an updated nVidia video driver for CentOS 5.5? Is there a CentOS package available that will update it? Or is it best to download it directly from nVidia?

Also, I do not have an internet connection on the machine, so it will have to be a manual download and installation.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: How To Restart A Video Driver (NVidia)

Sep 21, 2010

I'm using my Ubuntu 10.04 as a server, headless or with HDMI receiver/TV setup. There is a lot's of topics how to make it work headless/VNS. I found the least trouble is to make a fake VGA from old VGA cable and 3 resistors. However, when I start my Ubuntu with Fake VGA it won't switch to HDMI when I turn my Receiver/HDMI on. If I restart X it is fastest way to pick the HDMI Video/7.1 Audio up. I can do it via VNC or ssh and going to do it with 'irexec' so my wife will be able to redetect the HDMI and run XBMC with one button click of the remote. The problem is restarting X kills all my GUI apps (KTorrent, ...). Is there a way to force the video driver to restart or redetect the screens?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Which Nvidia Video Driver To Use And Push The Resolution?

Apr 19, 2010

New pooter, just installed SuSE 11.1. Would appreciate some insight into which Nvidia driver is right for my system, and what is the maximum resolution I can use without potentially causing any damage (if that's even a real concern). Here are the specifics.

[Code]...

So, now the questions.

a) Should I leave both sets of drivers installed, or should I delete one of them?

b) If delete, which should be taken off?

c) If neither of these drivers is the right one, which do you suggest I get instead?

d) I currently have the resolution set at 1920X1440. Is there any reason to worry that I might be overdriving anything and potentially causing damage to the system?

Hardware :: Update Nvidia Driver ?

Dec 27, 2009

I am using Ubuntu 9.10 with a GeForce 7300SE/7200GS video card. The current driver installed is 185.18.36 - installed via Ubuntu when the OS was initially installed. It appears that Ubuntu is not automatically updating, or at least not informing me, when a new release is available. The latest version Nvidia driver is 190.53 released on Dec 16, 2009. I have manually downloaded the driver (NVIDIA-Linux-x86-190.53-pkg1.run). Since I'm still "wet behind the ears" to Linux-Ubuntu, I really do know that much, if anything, about using the "Terminal" and all those "command line" entries. So first, can I set-up Ubuntu to check for Nvidia driver updates? Next, how do I manually install this new driver?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: 10.04 Video Hangs & Flashes And Resumes NVIDIA Driver?

Oct 14, 2010

I have the most bizarre problem that started with 10.04. Up until 10.04 I had zero problems with my setup. I am convinced this has something to do with NVIDIA 7100GS and 10.04.

Here is the problem in a nutshell. I have my home desktop, which I upgraded to 10.04 from 9.10. Everything went just fine except when it booted up and I logged in, the video "shut off", the computer "hung" for about 10 seconds, then came back. I'm able to use it for about 10 seconds then the same thing happens. Video blanks, system hangs, comes back.

I've tried turning off compiz, no effect. I've tried nvidia-current along with other versions (including the one from the website) and they ALL have the same problem. I know it's not a hardware issue as I can boot the live CD just fine. I also upgraded to 10.04.1 and that worked fine until I installed the nvidia drivers. Here is what I dont understand either. I did a apt-get remove --purge nvidia* and the problem still existed after that.

Something is seriously wonky. I REALLY don't want to re-install the entire box. Now, here is something else that doesnt make sense. I have 10.04 installed on my work box with a Nvidia 9800 graphics card and I have no issues at all.

Ubuntu :: Can't Boot After NVidia Driver Update

Oct 14, 2010

I'm in the live CD right now trying to figure out what to do. When I first got into Ubuntu, it asked me to install nVidia drivers, so I did. Afterwards, it said I needed to restart my computer to finish installation, but when upon getting past the bootloader, my screen hangs on "Assuming drive cache: write through". I found this post: [URL] but the terminal commands didn't help and I can't find /etc/xorg.cfg even if I show hidden files. I've added a picture of the screen I get when I try to boot up, so maybe someone can tell me what to do to get back into Ubuntu. I would like to be able to get back without having to reinstall, if possible.

OpenSUSE Install :: Nvidia Video - After DVD Update 11.3x64 To 11.4 X64

Mar 28, 2011

Prior to updating suse was running slow. The desktop would act "weird" . It started after an update on 11.3. thought updating to 11.4 would fix everything. Last night Dled a copy of Suse 11.4 burned, checked for errors and did an update. Everything worked fine and booted to desktop. Nice shiny and new, was very happy for about a minute

Currently I get a terminal login screen when trying to boot Desktop, or failsafe ( network doesn't work on either of these 2). Xen will boot to desktop but toolbar is gone. Hit alt f2 to launch apps ( terminal, firefox, yast) and none show on screen. If I hit alt tab they show up in list.

With zen I hit CTRL+ALT+f2 and did zypper up thinking that would fix the problem. Updated successfully but same problem. Have a Nvidia 7950GTX so I selected zen, did ctrl-alt-f2 again. Launched yast, added the nvidia.com 11.4 repo and installed the 68xx newer driver. ran nvidia-xconfig and still it wouldn't boot to GUI. loaded zen again c-a-f2 - > yast found a second nvidia 68xxnewer driver, installed and now have 6 options to select at startup. 2 desktop, 2 failsafe, 2 xen.

Picked the first one and suse loaded. Yay. Ran nvidia settings to fix resolution, saved. Weird thing was only 2 of the desktops backgrounds would change, other 2 were white. Audio didn't work, usually a reboot fixes the problem so I rebooted and am back to none working except the xen login that gives me a crippled desktop ( can launch programs but none show up).

At first startup after update to 11.4 desktop backgrounds were changing really fast. Right clicked desktop went to click on desktop settings and that's when the tool bar down below disappeared ( it was working prior to that). That is when the desktop became crippled. Second tool bar at top from previous install is still there and can launch folders to open but none show on screen but show in alt - tab.

Fedora Hardware :: F15 Failed To Update Nvidia Driver From 270 To 275

Jun 21, 2011

Lately I tried to update my nvidia drivers from RPFMFusion repos. There was a new version 275 available, so I installed it. After a reboot I would repeatedly see the Nviia Logo followed by black followed by a glimpse at the CLI with some error message. This process continues over and over again and it is so fast that the only thing I could make out from the error message is the following:

at-spi-bus-laun[some-number] segfault at 980 ...
in libx11.so.6.3.0 ...

I tried completely removing the driver then updating my system (there were no updates) then booting with nouveau to see that that actually works. Then I tried reinstalling the nvidia driver following leigh's guide [URL]. Same error.

This is where I'm stuck at the moment. Booting to runlevel 3 I had a look into the messages and Xorg.0.log, but I didn't see anything. Maybe I can get the log files uploaded.
I will boot from live media and provide them later on.

Hardware specs:

Samsung P480
Intel corei3 330
nvidia GT330M 1024mb
8gb Ram
120gb SSD OZC Vertex 2 with /tmp mounted as tmpfs

Software specs:

Using F15 x64
kernel 2.6.38.8-32 (from the top of my head, please don't shoot me)
added repos:
RPMFusion
adobe (flash)
playonlinux

There is one addition I can make. Before, when I was using the 270 driver, I tried playing some games via wine and that also segfaulted on me (most of the time - 1 worked), so I think there is a general issue with the nvidia drivers on my system. But back then It was only wine, not X.
