Mar 22, 2010I recently upgraded to ubuntu 9.10 on my dell d830 ..everything worked great no issues. did my normal mods and packaged updates and the works. this laptop i used at work and home, at work i use a windows 7 vm running ontop of my ubuntu and at home well ubuntu of-coarse. work has a proxy setting and my home network doesnt, so i decided to create two profiles on the system > preferences > network proxy One for home > with direct Internet connect And Another for work for defined proxy settings.
Everything was cool...then the one day when i tried to install graphics card driver, it gave a "cant not resolver proxy " error...i checked my profile and it was on home...i also deleted all profiles and set it to default and it still dont work..firefox works cause you can set proxy setting directly on firefox , but now i cant do any "apt-get" because some how ubuntu is still picking up my work network proxy setting? somehow it like stuck on the work network proxy setting although i delete the profiles too...?

Server :: Getting Rid Of Proxy Settings?
May 25, 2010I have a server that i built as 9.10 Ubuntu a while ago. It's been running through a proxy server that i set as an export in /etc/profile. Recently i upgraded it to 10.04 Ubuntu.
Now i want to get rid of the proxy server. I removed the export in /etc/profile. I've tried restarting the network services, reloading the profile, rebooting the machine, setting a blank export, and a few other things...but it's still using the proxy!
I've tried grepping various folders but the only other place i can find a proxy setting is in the apt config (which i don't think would matter?).

Jun 14, 2011I have given support for my clients since 1985 and used "Remote Session", "Carbon Copy", "pcAnywhere", "TightVNC", and a few others. My choice of preference is to have a server I can trust under my supervision in order to avoid exposing my clients and friends private information from getting exposed? Using TeamViewer, an excellent product, does not secure both my files and theirs because when we connect, we are in their server and if they choose to, can interrupt, copy files, etc. during a remote session. Are there Linux versions for remote support available like TeamViewer that would be in my direct control?

Mar 16, 2010I'm running a Ubuntu 9.10 server with Openbox as the WM. I'm have set the proxy and http_proxy settings at /system/prosy and /system/http_proxy using gconf-editor. The settings seem to stick in gconf. The gnome-settings-daemon seems to be running fine. The problem is firefox-3.5, apt etc does not recognize the gconf proxy settings. I do not understand why firefox does not honor these settings.

Oct 16, 2010I have installed and tried both squid version as transparent proxy but they just don't work.
I have eth0 which is where my internet comes in and eth1 which is my local network 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0.
My default firewall policy is to drop input output and forward, i have already set my firewall to accept and workout the squid and it is working.

I readed the Docs on the squid page but the above rules can't be reproduced to 3.1 and i don't wish to use such rules to make it transparent or hidden so i want some help to figure out why it inst transparent.
Ubuntu :: 8.10 Server Apt-get Doesn't Work Properly
Apr 25, 2011I am trying to install some packages in a ubuntu 8.10 server, however, apt-get doesn't work (I get several 'not found' errors). Is there any way to do that? I know this version is probably not supported anymore but I can't just format a customer server because it's OS is outdated...I just can't put my sources.list on it because I am on ubuntu 10.10 and it would download updates for the wrong OS probably causing a huge damage on the old one.

Aug 21, 2010I am using Fedora 13 x86_64 on a Acer Aspire 7730ZG laptop with: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G98 [GeForce 9300M GS] (rev a1) I have kmod-nvidia-2.6.33.6-147.2.4.fc13.x86_64-195.36.31-1.fc13.2.x86_64 installed from rpmfuison when I plug in the hdmi cable to the tv, my tv says the resoultion is at 720p, and I can not get any of the resolutions settings to look right on seperate x screen with the nvidia X server settings gui. my tv is a vizo 42inch. also another question is their a way to set the video card to output at 1080? this might be part of my problem?

Mar 20, 2010I am running a quad core centos 5.4 box that is having a strange problem with dovecot. The administration panel is able to send emails through dovecot but not any of the user accounts (ie with webmail). I've done a bit of research with what could be wrong but haven't had any luck so far I am also having a weird problem with apache: on a c++/php bittorrent application I was going to be running on a subdomain of my main site I get a 500 error every time I try to log in. The only way to get rid of the 500 error is to clear the chache (so its horribly broken somehow). The error generated in the log whenever I try to log in is that "ffmpeg is already loaded" (which I am running on the main site and is critical). Is there a way of either repairing my apache install or excluding ffmpeg on the subdomain in the conf or something?

Aug 23, 2011I'm trying to use zenity and at to make a little reminder script. The problem is that while zenity --info works fine from bash (or sh), running echo "zenity --info" | at now + 1 min does nothing. The job shows up in my atq and then runs, but no zenity pop-up. What's going on?

May 19, 2011When I installed Ubuntu 11 Server, it asked for a proxy http address. I gave it our address, I'll call it a.b.c.d. It did not, however, prompt for the port number (8080). Now, when I do the following:

it just sits there for a while and then says:
unable to connect to a.b.c.d

I thought it might be using flash or something rerouting the connection through something other than port 80 (or 8080 for the proxy) but not sure if that is the issue.I just used a fake login and password but instead of giving me the incorrect password error the page just hangs.

At the moment, TV starts up straight away at login, but seeing as the wireless internet isn't connected straight away, TV's trying to connect without a connection, which is a problem when the wireless does connect as it will get stuck with 'Activating TeamViewer'.
Obviously, this is a straight forward task, just exit and then re-open TV. But seeing as I want to run a headless server, carrying my monitor and mouse to the server every time I want to activate TV isn't ideal.
The way I did set up TeamViewer to start up on login, was by dragging the icon into System>Preferences>Start-up Applications, so if the solution is to create a script of some sort.

Apr 24, 2010I installed amarok in ubuntu karmic, I had to set the proxy settings for wikipedia and lyrics plugin to work , for that I had to edit the file .kde/share/config/kioslaverc , but now the problem is , that lyrics aren't being displayed although wikipedia and photos for the artist are being displayed. Whenever it starts playing a song, it just shows the usual message "lyrics are being fetched" for a couple of seconds and then nothing is displayed, I don't think anything is wrong with my proxy settings as wikipedia and photos plugin are working fine. Do I need some kde dependency for lyrics to work ?

I set the system-wide proxy settings and they seem to work for most part except not on Google Chrome and Opera. Firefox works fine though flash is never detected. I get a 105 "NAME NOT RESOLVED" error on Chrome.
Also whenever I install something using apt-get, it tells me that the packages cannot be authenticated.

Feb 23, 2011I am trying to set up my squid3 proxy as a transparent proxy - right now, I have to manually configure browsers to access via proxy. I understand that I have to put some rules into Iptables and also some further directives in the squid.conf.
I have a couple of specific questions. The proxy server is running on a Ubuntu 10.04 workstation and this machine also acts as a dhcp server for the network. I have just one subnet , namely 192.168.0.1-254 There is only 1 network card. Is it much easier to put in a second network card or is it just as easy to configure the existing lan card as a dual IP?
Is it necessary to configure these 2 IP's ( whether they are via 2 lan cards or dual IP on single card ) to be on different subnets. i.e ETH0 192.168.0.1 and ETH1 192.168.1.1 or is ok to have something like ETH0 192.168.0.1 and ETH1 192.168.0.254 ( where ETH0 is the one facing the LAN and ETH1 points to the modem router / switch i.e The Internet ) Where specifically do I save the Iptables rule configuration file and what must I call it ?
General :: Shutdown-command Doesnt Work Properly - End Up With A Black Screen
Jan 14, 2010When i use the shutdown-command in the terminal as root, it nearly works. It starts to shut down, and it looks like all programs and the kernels shuts down. I end up with a black screen, sometimes with the ubuntu-logo on, but it never powers off. I have to force it off by holding the power button. When i use the graphical interface to shut it down, it works perfectly. The poweroff-command works without problem too.
