Debian Installation :: WiFi Option Says That Hardware Is Disabled
Oct 2, 2015I've just finished installing Jessie and everything went well, however when I boot into the installed system the WiFi option says that the hardware is disabled. My laptop is a Lenovo G50 which doesn't have a physical switch. the odd thing is that during installation I'm able to connect to my wifi with no problem!

Dec 29, 2010I tuned on my netbook and my wireless signal had a red exclamation.
Wireless is enabled.
Wireless Networks shows disconnected
I don't get it. Can't seem to get it to connect? How? If I open the connection information I can see the wifi networks around me. And edit/add/delete. But when I go back to the signal and click. it just shows wireless network disconnected and no option to connect. What to do? I have restarted the computer, router, cable modem, etc. Done the updates.
Slackware :: Config Option For Usb Wifi Rt2x00 Modules?
Jan 5, 2010I have a system using a Linksys WUSB54B usb wifi adapter that needs the rt2x00/rt2500 modules. Using the fresh install kernel, 2.6.29.6-smp, the modules are there and I get my interface up.
But, when I configure my own kernel, not an smp system, I cannot find the .config option in the menu for rt2x00 network adapter support and the modules are not in /lib/modules/vmlinuz-2.6.29.6-first directory tree after a "make modules_install".
I looked through the configuration menu, but could find no reference to the rt2x00 drivers.

Should there be an option to download an ISO option for a CD installation on this page along with the DVD version? Some of our older machines can only read CD's with a max size of 500+ megs.

I had been using a wireless router, but I gave it away I can use Mac OS X to share an ethernet connection over wifi, but this is _very_ un-configurable. You get two options only, WEP and a key-length. So, I would like to install someway to make this wireless connection more configurable.

General :: Possible Kernel Configuration Option ?
Jul 20, 2011I have had Linux running in our product that has several serial ports.(Another Ethernet to Serial port translator). It has been running OK for about 6 years, using kernel 2.6.11, then 2.6.18. Now I just got 2.6.39.1 running and suddenly I get these "I/O Possible" messages and my programs shutdown. I found elsewhere that the cure for this is to put a "signal(SIGIO, SIG_IGN)" call to stop this signal from crashing the program. This works, but I would really like to know the reason that this started happening in the first place.
Could there possibly be a 'config' option I missed that causes this? It just surprises me that the kernel writers would implement something that has such a large impact on the existing code base, causing anyone using serial ports, or anything else that might trigger a SIGIO, to have to edit, recompile, and redistribute their programs.
How to change the kernel behavior, short of going in and hacking the kernel. Or at least an idea as to why they would have changed the default behavior.
