I've got a computer hooked up to my TV and it seems that all video files have audio that is a fraction too early. The files are fine on my laptop. I wonder if there is a way to delay all sound on the computer to help with this problem.
View 2 RepliesI have a Macbook 5,2, on which I'm triple booting OS X - Linux - Windows, using bootcamp and rEFIt.I had a variation of Ubuntu 10.04 called Uber Student as the linux installation.I installed Ubuntu 11.04 AMD64 instead, by choosing the EFI boot option.Now this gave me some problems. When I shot down, the Macbook gives me a troubling long beep sound.When I start up, I'm still able to boot up into rEFIt and Grub2, but there is a big delay with the screen being black for about 30 seconds and the little white light in the left corner of the Macbook is blinking feverishly. I read something about a guy which had a similar problem and the process seemed to mess up the firmware on his Macbook, so he had to have his MB changed.
What's up with the scary beep sound and the long boot up delay?Secondly, when I want to do an update of the Ubuntu system, the update manager asks me to do a partial upgrade, which includes removing the grub-EFI, resulting in a system that won't boot...
After GRUB 2 comes up (I'm running Ubuntu 10.10) and I choose the OS to boot, there is about a 5 second delay where nothing appears to happen after I make the selection -- no disk activity. It happens consistently every time I boot. Again, this is after I choose the OS to boot, so it shouldn't have anything to do with the standard delay to allow me to choose the appropriate OS.Is there a good way to troubleshoot this and determine what is causing the delay?

View 5 Replies View RelatedA friend lent me their Ubuntu book but I can't understand it and could not find anything about the sound suddenly going from the speaker on Monday night. I went to Sony Ericsson's site to check something on my account and loud music suddenly started blaring out so I pressed the Fn button and End which muted it. However, I forgot to take it off before closing down for the night and as of Tuesday morning I have no sound. Would me leaving mute on all night have screwed something up or has it just suddenly gone? I am so upset as I cannot afford to get another laptop as not working and this is my last resort since my original Compaq one died.
I appreciate any "Helpful" solutions. Not in techy but layman's terms please as I won't understand. Also if you do reply, I am in the UK and also don't get notifications so I am not being rude if I can't get back to you quickly. I will be going to bed now.
For a couple of days ago, maybe a week or two I beguinne to get a 'snap-sound' in my compurt sound, like an eletrick charge or someting. I comes with about a minutes period. I resently find out that it came from the center-speaker. I run Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and have this sound-card: 00:09.0 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP73 High Definition Audio (rev a1)
My speaker system is Logitech X-530 I have located the problem to center-speaker, but the snap-sound only disappear if I mute the center, not lower the input, in the GNOME ALSA Mixer. I have tried to disconnect the antenna to the analoge-TV-tuner. Has anyoe a similar problem, and a trick to fix it? I don't know if it's related to any recent update of the system?
I have a Western Digital 1Tb WD10EAVS Caviar Gp Hard Drive. It does not have an operating system installed but it have alot of my important files. The hard drive began making a clicking sound and when I boot up my computer I see my other drives and the sata slot for that drive remains blank. Can any one help me recover or fix my hard drive

I thought problem was in insertion of vbr.

I would like to watch a baseball game on TV, but listen to the radio broadcast. The TV is about 10 seconds behind the radio, though.Does anyone know a way to delay the input from my radio by 10 seconds and output it again to the speakers? View 2 Replies View RelatedWhenever I login to a certain server using SSH I get a very long delay before a prompt appears. Everything I looked up on this issue says that it's a DNS issue and that I should disable reverse DNS lookups on the server.
But, the remote server is a shared webhosting server. I e-mailed the sysadmins but they say they have no DNS issue and that they won't change the server configuration. So, how can I fix this issue from my side (client side)? I have a static IP address and a hostname that points to it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSwitching to and from insert mode in Vim is no longer instantaneous since I use tmux. After pressing Esc in insert mode, it takes a noticeable amount of time to actually get out of insert mode. After pressing Esc and any other key afterwards the switch is immediate, and the command for the key pressed after Esc is executed. Any idea what might cause this?The Vim configuration is not the problem as the delay does not occur when I run Vim outside tmux, so this is probably related to tmux somehow. I use gnome-terminal btw.
Also worth noting, it seems I can not define key bindings in tmux for Esc, my plan was to bind Esc to:bind Escape send-keys.Alas, it seems binding anything to Esc for tmux does not work. The same problem occurs in screen as well.

I just bought a Toshiba Satellite (sorry, don' t know the model number) and I've got Debian testing/unstable on it...the sound was working fine until, suddenly, it stopped working. I've been on the Internet for hours looking at sites and trying things, but to no avail. I have no clue what's going on. ALSA is installed, the proper device files are present in /dev, lspci shows the sound card.....and yet no sound. It's a new computer! This shouldn't be happening!

I have had sound working for months but recently I plugged in a USB headset and to get it to work, I had to open pulse audio and change to it. I later unplugged it, turned off the computer and have now restarted it (without the headset) and now I get no sound through the computer speakers! What do I do?

I used the Pulse Audio manager that shows up in the taskbar when you select it from the Kickoff Launcher.But now it's showing "Null Audio" and under "Sound" it shows "Audio Devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG" Under System Settings -> Multimedia, it lists Pulse Audio Sound Server.Under PulseAudio Manager ->Devices tab it has Null Output as the only device.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a security cam watched by a computer with Motion. on that computer i use hdparm -S 240 /dev/hdb to stop the harddrive where the pictures go from running when not used (witch is usually 2 days in a row). Now when motion is detected, the first 3 or 4 pictures are saved, and then there is a pauze for about 5 sec. before the next picture. This has to do with the hard-disk spinning up (I tried without), but I don't understand why not more pictures are held in memory until the disk is ready. how to solve this without having the disk running all days?, or what i should start reading

My first post here. I've been using Ubuntu Server edition (Hardy) happily for some time now. I use sudo regularly during configuration of new services. It always works/authorises within seconds, however, it recently became very slow, to the point of being nearly unusable. It turns out that ANY authentication request stalls in this way - in in a plain shell, X or Gnome, via VNC (and even FTP seems affected). In /var/log/auth.log I noticed a regular working pattern like this:

Unfortunately now, these records look the same, but the timestamps are much wider apart (minutes). The problem occured after running synaptic and dpkg-reconfigure obm-conf. I was trying to remove 'OBM' [URL] completely as I'd messed up (just OBM) while trying to fix a minor-looking misconfiguration.
I've carefully analysed which files were altered (modified) during my changes (as the problem survives a reboot), but there are no likely-looking candidates in the list (I deleted some blank lock files). I also did a wireshark capture during an authentication session and noticed that it doesn't appear to be looking off the server for information (I had likewise-open installed, but the problem exists whether that is running or not). Research in the forums hinted that this might just be as simple as a bad /etc/hosts file - but /etc/hosts has not been modified. I may have a flawed DNS, but I get fast enough responses to nslookup and can access Internet etc.
So my sound volume is very low if i start my computer up when i have headphones plugged in even when all volume controls are up to 100% but when i start it without headphones plugged in it is loud and normal. Using Toshiba Laptop with Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx

View 2 Replies View Relatedjust installed ubuntu 10.04.1 after using ultimate for abit but having sound issues which i thought could have been os based.Sound works fine from boot and continues fine until i open options and try to configure my mic settings, i get like maybe 5 secs to make adjustments then all my sound dies totally. The icon then shows as speaker with 3 lines next to it and within the configuration for sound my mic hardware vanashes. I cannot get any sound until i restart my computer and so cannot use apps like skype which i do tend too use alot.
