Dec 31, 2010I foresee a possible need to set up an international video conference. I will be at one end, and people who haven't a great knowledge of these things will be at the other, with windows, I must presume. This is a once or twice off event, but there is a lot of significance attached to it.
How would I go about setting that up? I am presuming webcam + 1 microphone at each end, but I'd need a larger pic than you get with skype (in linux, at any rate). What software should I use? I can test it locally and debug the system.

I want to knwo, what type of computer should I use? Is does linux work better on Intel Xeon or AMD? I need the application to work fast.
Am I going to have any problems with incompatibility if I get a Dell server?
I've used Ubuntu, just to check it out, but I've heard Centos is better for web servers, is that true?

Dec 7, 2010I've been trying to make a cgi script that starts a program on a server and then shows the program on the servers screen. The cgi script is written in perl. I've been successful in making the program showing up on the screen through ssh by setting $DISPLAY to :0.0, I tried setting it to this in /etc/profile but when the cgi script ran nothing showed up on the screen. I tried having the script running it as a local user with "su - [user] -c [command]", this didn't help either.
In short what I'm trying to accomplish. When I press a button on a web page an slide show is supposed to start on a screen connected to the server.

May 14, 2010This just started happening recently.. I have no problems with 1on1 skype calls but as soon as I try to bring in another party all of my skype audio just sounds like some really really bad video game from the 70's. Just beeps and borks. The other people on the call can hear each other just fine and dandy, but on my end I can't hear anything except for beep boop beep boop.

I can run this thing from within its directory... but I do not like messing within the directories of my applications, this is why I sent this to /usr/local, and placed a calling script in /usr/local/bin...

Aug 14, 2010I have installed the latest version of aMSN (aMSN | Download aMSN software for free at SourceForge.net) which supports sending my webcam video. Unfortunately, it is unable to send my audio at the same time which is highly frustrating.
Does anyone know of a Linux equivalent of MSN which allows video and audio communication. I have tried Kopete, although the call feature button is inactive, despite having setup my webcam in this program.
I have also tried installing a program called qnext, though webcam and audio support between alternate different Instant Messengers (IM's) are not supported.
