I often run calculations on my Linux computer, which cause my X server to crash from time to time. Almost always, some programs seem to survive to the crash and are in an interruptible sleeping state, for example:29315 ? When i will write this in console it will run executeable file and it will generate report : core.pid after crash so i can gdb the report. The application after crash will restart how can i prevent restarting the application after it's crash?
I have a huge problem with my file server (OpenSuse 11.3 - 64bit, kernel-2.6.34.7-0.7-default). I've just installed an Intel SASUC8I card, connected 3 of the 7 Samsung 2TB drives I have to it and after about one hour, it dropped 2 of the disks. I've managed to trace the problem to the card BIOS, which I've replaced with the non-raid edition, so it should now work fine with the kernel raid now. The problem is that I can't find a way to "un-fail" these 2 disks. I'm more than positive, that these drives are just fine, only the controller was misbehaving. The dropout also couldn't have created any data inconsistency either, since the 2 drives dropped out virtually at the same time and there was no writing being done at the time. I've tried add/re-add, I get either mdadm: cannot get array info for /dev/md0 or mdadm: add new device failed for /dev/sdi1 as 7:
Invalid argument (depending on the raid being run or being stopped, in either case, mdstat reports it to be inactive)
For a normal or forced assemble, I get mdadm: /dev/md0 assembled from 5 drives and 1 spare - not enough to start the array.I've been googleing like crazy, also trying to get info from mdadm's help and man, but nothing seems to deal with such a freak accident. An other interesting thing is, that if I reboot the system, mdstat shows md0 as inactive, but lists all the devices with no flags. It's only after a run command, that it changes to the 5 remaining devices, all with (S) flags. Alternatively: does anyone know where device failure info is stored? If I could in some way remove this information from the system (even by reinstalling the OS), I should be able to reassemble the array... Or is it stored in the member drive super-blocks? About 80% of this array's data is backed up, so if all else fails, I can restore most of its content, but I'd much prefer to reassemble this one as a whole, since there was absolutely no chance of data corruption.
In my case I have TeamViewer 6 (remote desktop application) opening as one of my Startup applications. I only really need it to run in the background, so I don't need it in my face after logging in.
What I'm looking for is a command line option for opening an application in a minimized state. Is this possible? Or should I start looking into a script to find the window and minimize it?
Ubuntu 10.10 has crashed and I'm resigned to a re-install, however is there any way to recover or access my files via the CD, live, during install or after ?

View 4 Replies View Relatedyou're playing a game like Supertuxcart or Open Arena and the screen freezes which hints at something that has crashed.Well this happened this weekend when my mate's kids were playing those games on my laptop running Ubuntu 9.10.
All I could think of to resolve the issue was to hit the Power Button and restart my laptop. I am assuming that this is not exactly a good thing to do but at the time I could not think of anything else to do seeing as the screen froze and I could not use the mouse or pressing any buttons.Anybody got any ideas on how to un crash an application with out hitting the power button and forcing a re-boot?

View 4 Replies View RelatedAssume: 1) Multi-cpu environment 2) Process that gets interrupted, is the same process that executes the interrupt handler, so I guess technically nothing gets interrupted except what the process was doing before, but it is still executing as it is executing the handler. 3) There is no top or bottom half, when an interrupt takes place the handler is invoked, executes, then return from interrupt, simple as that.
Why would sleeping the handler (puts in sleep queue, context switch to next runnable process) be a bad idea?
I would like to mount my mp3 player (sdb) without waking up the sleeping SATA disk sda. Attaching mp3 player does not wake sda up, but mounting it does. My system is mostly Slackware 11, so I'm still on kernel 2.4.

I recently upgraded a server from Fedora 6 to Fedora 14. In addition to the main hard drive where the OS is installed, I have 3 1TB hard drives configured for RAID5 (via software). After the upgrade, I noticed one of the hard drives had been removed from the raid array. I tried to add it back with mdadm --add, but it just put it in as a spare. I figured I'd get back to it later.Then, when performing a reboot, the system could not mount the raid array at all. I removed it from the fstab so I could boot the system, and now I'm trying to get the raid array back up.
I ran the following:mdadm --create /dev/md0 --assume-clean --level=5 --chunk=64 --raid-devices=3 missing /dev/sdc1 /dev/sdd1I know my chunk size is 64k, and "missing" is for the drive that got kicked out of the array (/dev/sdb1).That seemed to work, and mdadm reports that the array is running "clean, degraded" with the missing drive.However, I can't mount the raid array. When I try:mount -t ext3 /dev/md0 /mnt/fooI get:

i have purchased sun server for my visualization project. Request you to help me finding the io for disk .I have put storage(disks) on different location (File Server) and on server (Application) i have configured 4 virtual machines.
How would i monitor the io for file server from the Application server where i have configured 4 virtual machine. one way to mount the file server share on application server and execute

5.5 (64bit). My server goes into non responding state where I can't telnet, ftp or ssh server whereas PING is the only thing which works at that time. I need to hard reboot server to get it back online. I am using CentOS 5.5 (64 bit) on a Quad core server having 8 GB RAM. This server has MySQL server 5.1.47 installed. THis server goes non responding state after every 20 to 60 days. SSH, telnet doesn't work at that time however PING works fine. I have to hard reboot the server to get it back on track. Can anybody let me know what logs/files should I look into to find out that what happens to the server when it went to non responding state?

I have written a simple server application (with an HTTP interface). I want to ensure that only calls from the local machine are processed - i.e. I want to prevent outsiders from accessing/using my server.
How may I restrict outsiders (i.e. requests from remote machines)?
I've been trying to make a cgi script that starts a program on a server and then shows the program on the servers screen. The cgi script is written in perl. I've been successful in making the program showing up on the screen through ssh by setting $DISPLAY to :0.0, I tried setting it to this in /etc/profile but when the cgi script ran nothing showed up on the screen. I tried having the script running it as a local user with "su - [user] -c [command]", this didn't help either.
In short what I'm trying to accomplish. When I press a button on a web page an slide show is supposed to start on a screen connected to the server.

Something like we attach tags with skills to people photographs, and then when people connect to the application by means of a browser, they see a list of tags, they click on a tag they get a list of people who have that skill.
