All of a sudden,i can't execute a simple script as follows:
exit 0
and:

When I run this command from shell, it runs ok
export REVS=`svn info svn+ssh://svn.myone.ca/var/svn/story/trunk/lib |grep 'Last Changed Rev:'| awk -F: '{print $2}'`
However when I save it into a file called test.sh (of course, I chmod it with +x), I got error "export: 2: bad variable name"
Here is the file:
#!/bin/bash
export REVS=`svn info svn+ssh://svn.myone.ca/var/svn/story/trunk/lib |grep 'Last Changed Rev:'| awk -F: '{print $2}'`
I am using ubuntu.
Are there any tools that can be used to create a simple GUI for the bash script files i have created, and the GUI should be able to run on both Solaris and Red Hat systems.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI wrote this script which works but it should run automatically about once per week. I hunted and experimented with KDE Task Scheduler (no dice and no help anywhere) and cron (confusing instructions and cannot edit crontab -e with vim, and cannot enter cron folders/files). I would settle for a desktop shortcut to run the script but found no for that.
Script:
Code:
#!/bin/bash
xterm -hold -e fstrim -v /
Machine:

I just installed amanda-backup_client-2.6.0p2-1.rhel4.i386.rpm on my Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 system. But I don't know who to check if it successfully installed or not. When I try to run amrecover from root, I get:
-bash: /usr/sbin/amrecover: cannot execute binary file
I downloaded a program called tonespace http://www.mucoder.net/en/tonespace/ which I extracted and then tried to execute the executable file with ./tonespace. This gives me the following message:
bash: ./tonespace: No such file or directory
When I use the command: file ./tonespace I get this: tonespace: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for GNU/Linux 2.6.15, stripped
I dont get it. The file is clearly there, yet when trying to execute it bash doesn't seem to recognize it.
It has permissions rwxr-xr-x and is not owned by root. Am I overlooking something?
I wish to execute a shell script once a button on my html page is clicked.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI used to execute the command setrcs /data/dev/projects in a solaris machine. And all the files in the given path were visible from the current directory (whichever directory i am in). So that i need not copy necessary files required for compilation from the path to the current directory.
Ex: Suppose I am writing a C code x.c in the directory /root/test/. I do #include <bdm.c> in the file x.c. While executing I need not have the bdm.c in the current directory. Because I have executed the command setrcs /data/dev/projects. The compiler automatically looks for the bdm.c file in the path /data/dev/projects. But i am not able to execute the command setrcs in linux. Is there any similar command with similar functions or if there is any different command in Linux which serves my purpose.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've checked out a subversion project with source c++ files in netbeans 6.8 on Red Hat 5.5. My machine has a dual boot with windows xp and RHEL 5.5 so I checked out the project on a folder called winshare which is a shared drive/partition (E: under xp) allowing both operating systems to access the contents. I've Fedora as virtual machine on xp and wanted to be able to work on the source seamlessly whether using fedora or RHEL.
Problem is that Netbeans is able to build the source just fine but I can't seem to run the generated executable. It has -rw-rw---- permission and the owner is the same user logged in (let's say user1) but no matter what I do, whether I change permissions as user1 or root issuing command chmod 777 -R /dir/where/file/is does not have any effect whatsoever on the executable as well as any .cpp or .h files (nothing that I need exectue permissions on .cpp but just to make a point).
I have been looking at: ut a lot of it is to do with files and numerical comparisonswhat would be the bash equivalent of:if (http isin $2) { do something }
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a function that takes a pair of a high and a low limit, and returns an arbitrary number between them. Below is my attempt to create a function that accomplishes this by checking to see if they are equal, and if not, subtracts a very small number from the high limit and returns the result.
View 2 Replies View Relateddoes anyone know how to calculate an average in a simple way with bash? I've got something like this:
Code:
$ cat results.txt | head -10 | tr " " " " | cut -f13
0.23929285124
0.404716908011
0.35113102608
[Code]....
and now I want to calculate the average of the resulting numbers. I know I could write a bash or awk or perl script and use that, but isn't there a more simple, elegant way? There is for example "sum" in the coreutils, but no "avg"..
I am trying to use the date command in a simple bash script as below:
#!/bin/sh
this_date=`date`
echo "The date is $this_date"
This script seems to work only if a surround the command with the `` characters, which I copied from another script. Can anyone tell me why this is, and how I can insert these characters from my keyboard,which only has normal quote and double-quote characters?
I am running a simple script that I copied from slug.ceca.utc.edu/docs/2009-3-26-linux-server-health.pdf and edited with the names and paths of my own servers. I don't know much about scripting (re: nothing) but I wanted to try and be efficient in my new role as a Linux Sys Admin. The script was saved to root's home directory and runs as part of root's crontab once a week. The script runs with no problem, but it doesn't actually seem to run all of the commands contained within. It skips some in the middle and the end and I don't know why. The script itself is this:
Code:
#!/in/bash
uname -a > /tmp/server.txt
[code]...
I have a very simple bash script:echo -n Create home directory?:

I have a folder of 2 many files that the old ls just hangs.
I am trying to write some log files such as;
I don't mind doing one at a time, but I am just playing and even getting the listing I am not getting the date stamp, I have the following;
That does create the file, but all the files look like this;
So basically it's just sticking that ls inside the log file and not actually running the ls, so how can I use the above type to get files just created per year?
I want to execute a bash script in a C program. Bash script return some message and I want to store this message in a C program. Anybody know how can I do it.
I know I can use 'system("bash myscript.sh")' command in C. But I want to store the message which script return.
What i want to achieve si simple (i think).
I have this shell command:
Code:
echo -e 'ka 0 00
' > /dev/ttyS0
and i want to execute it from html or php with a button maybe or a link.(it's a command to turn off the monitor)
I am running Ubuntu 9.04 desktop with apache and php installed .
already searched the forum but didn't find/understand how to achieve this functionality.
I'm trying to start bash with a command and have it interactive like this:bash -i -c "echo Welcome!"As in, execute the command and allow me to use it as an interactive shell afterwards. (I'm doing something more complicated than echoing, but this doesn't work.)I've tried this from a running gnome-terminal, from one gnome-terminal to a new one withgnome-terminal and from the Alt+F2 program launcher (with "Run in terminal" ticked).
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am trying to process a column separated data file, with a few bash command. For example, I have
Code:
file1 aaaa yes
file2 aaaa no
file3 bbbb yes
Let say I want to create new file with the output of first column and do something else with the output of 3rd column. Of course there are many ways to process this data file, but I wish to know by using awk, how could I do it. I'm trying:
Code:
awk '{system("touch $1")}' datafile
but the shell command will not able to get the awk '$1' output. How do I get this done ? And for another question, if the data file contains the variable name of a shell variable, how could I make use of it during a awk output ? For example I have a datafile1:
Code:
server1 yes
server2 no
And in another server declaration data file, I got this datafile2:
Code:
server1=xxx1
server2=yyy1
And in my awk script, I want to achieve something like (the syntax is definitely wrong, just to demonstrate what I assume it will like):

I have a computation going which takes a long, but uncertain, amount of time. I have another computation which needs to be run, but _after_ the first one is done. I won't be at the computer at that time to manually start the new process. I've done some Googling, and I found how to delay execution by a specific amount of time (e.g. "start process x in exactly 8 minutes from now), but that isn't quite what I want to do. Essentially, I'd like to tell the shell, "When process #nnnn finishes running, then start process x". Is there a way to do this?
