View 1 Replies View RelatedI was using windows recently and noticed that in their command line, the autocomplete is in some ways a little more intelligent (although based on my short experience ours is more robust); for example, if you have a directory named blah and a file name bl, in Linux "cd bl <tab>" will result in "cd bl" while in Windows I get "cd blah" because it recognizes that blah and not bl is the appropriate argument to cd. Similarly unrar will target rar files first.I am not saying Windows command line is better; Windows command line is in general a piece of junk.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have the following TCL code:
if{ [catch {sqlite3 db /path/to/db/file} result] } {
puts stderr $result
} else {
do something
}
What I want is to use a variable for the file name/path. When I put in a variable instead of the absolute path, I get an error: "missing close-brace: possible unbalanced brace in comment while executing"
This is weird because when I run the code with the fully qualified pathname, it works fine. I substitute out the pathname for a variable containing the pathname ($variable) and I get this error.
I want to be able to create an RPM that will install python 2.7.1 along with sqlite 3.7.3, MySQL-Python-1.2.3 on a CentOS 5.5 x86_64 host(s) in a directory (e.g. /opt/python2.7). Once that's done, I want to be able to alias the new python binary in .bash_profile so that my developers can begin using it.
I understand 2.7.1 can't be installed on a CentOS host but I've done the above using a shell script successfully. If you search hard enough, I posted my script on line . However, I need to create the RPM for political reasons. Besides placing the source file(s) in the SOURCES directory, what do I need to do in the spec to be able to successfully create an RPM installer?
Please be gentle with me. I've been drinking the Windows cool-aid for most of my IT career so, this is one of my first attempts of becoming a better DevOps Admin.
I have reinstalled Suse 10.1 as dual-boot with Windows XP. I am now unable to get a program to run from the Linux command line. I am familiar with the program and have had it running previously when the machine was Linux-only. Everything else, e.g.Firefox and Office, work fine in Suse.

The problem occurs with all commands - not just this one. isis3Startup.sh is in green on the screen so I assume I should be able to run it - I have never had any problem when it was installed previously.
I'd like show a certain line or lines of a file with context, kind of like a unified diff, on the command line in Linux:

View 2 Replies View RelatedI know my way around MS Windows much better, but I just don't feel right trying to program something for Android on a Microsoft operating system. I am interested in Android programming so I followed the instructions on [URL] to install the environment on my computer...
I just installed the JDK, SDK, Eclipse successfully (or I assume):
* When I get to Step 4 where I'm supposed to run 'android' it will not run. I get the error message "android: command not found" (I am definitely in the right directory).
** When I double-click it in nautilus, it opens up in gedit. I can set the permissions in nautilus (through the properties - Allow executing file as a program) and get it to work,

I'm attempting to install a command-line version of Maverick, from the alternate CD. I'm using the 64-bit version. The installation has gone fine - however, I'm having troubles getting the wireless to work. I've installed wireless-tools by carting the *.deb archive over from another computer - this seemed to go fine, and iwconfig shows my wireless card as "wlan0". However, even after setting the essid and the WEP key I can't connect to the internet (tested this using apt-get). I know that this wireless card requires the "rtl8187se" module, which automatically loads with the desktop version of Maverick - however, it isn't working on the command-line. Running "sudo modprobe rtl8187se" pings back an error message saying that the module can't be found. Is there a way for me to manually install it or "find" it?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have recently installed Ubuntu 11.04 from the alternative installation CD; the installation was just the command line system. On top of this I have installed xorg and awesome window manager. The only problem I am having is with sound; I am unable to hear sound played through both browser-based Flash and locally stored files.
Is there something that I have to do before I can use sound? Edit: I have solved the original problem however I would like to know if I can remove pulseaudio as it seems that I am only using alsa.
I've a really strange problem with the auto-complete in midnight commander. I've linux installed in a laptop, and when I do Esc-TAB with the keyboard of the laptop, the autocomplete works. But, if a connect an USB keyboard to the laptop, the autocomplete of the mc doesn't work in the USB keyboard, but stills work in the laptop keyboard.

I have some big sqlite3 databases in ~/.mozilla/firefox/profilename Notably places.sqlite (12 MB) and urlclassifier3.sqlite (33 MB). Is it possible to truncate them and wipe out the oldest records in them? Of course I could just wipe them completely, but that's not my goal - I just want to minimize the size of those files while keeping the newest records.
