we have a strange setup for one of our clients... the problem is that the machine was orginal setup with mysql and php and when they build out the website...
the other guys installed lampp and setup the website into the htdocs folder into the lampp directory.
the problem is that when we SSH. we get into a different mysql
and the website is running on it's own mysql setup which was originally setup with lampp.
now, we want to setup another database and it won't let us do it... just because we don't have the root username and password for the mysql of lampp.
bottomline, we have two mysql's running on the same matchine.
1. we can ssh into.
2. the website runs on.
is there any way we can reset the passsword of the phpmyadmin of the lampp root user.
I would like to use an extra physical hard drive in my linux server to provide my wife a place to backup her Windows XP desktop.I am willing to format this drive as NTFS (or anything else) and have it dedicated to this purpose. I am wondering what is the easiest way to proceed?
So, I have a website that is hosted at Godaddy and I've set up a database with the ability to access it remotely. I was wondering if there is an easy way to set up an automated back-up of said database at Godaddy, to my local server.
i am using liferay5.2(mysql included in the download pack) on fedora. while liferay is working fine but i cannot connect to mysql.i am getting the error

I will be doing actual development and testing on the same machine as the server. It is a single user machine in the sense that I will be the only one working on the machine. There will be multiple hosted languages, specifically PHP and RoR while possibly expanding later. I'd like the setup to translate well to a production environment. With those 3 things in mind there are a couple of things I've had in the back of mind.Seeing as it's a single user machine I haven't been able to decide whether or not I should be working on things out of my home directory or if they should be located outside of it.I'm feeling that outside of a user directory would be better as it would translate better to a production environment, but I'm also not sure if that will come with any permission annoyances or concerns seeing as I'll be working on the same machine. Hosting multiple languages seems like it may be a bit quirky. With PHP I've found you're generally just dumping the project somewhere in the document root where as something like a Rails app you have the entire project and you only want the public directory in the document root.
If I have 2 MySQL server and I want to replicate their database to only 1 server, is it possible? I cannot afford to have master-to-master only because I still need to replicate one more machine but I do not have anymore more machine for replication so I'm thinking if these 2 MySQL server can be replicate to only 1 machine. If this is not possible, I guess I've no choice but to have two mysql daemon on that machine
Normally, on my website, files are either handled by WordPress or by me doing FTP. I'd like to copy my entire site to a new folder. I don't want to copy it down to my local drive (with wget) and then just upload it. How close is this to the line I'd need (except near midnight)
mv -r fromfolder \%todaysdate%
I've played with Unix and Linux for a few days over the years, but I'm a Windows (and DOS-prompt) guy. So, I don't know how to get to the server's command prompt on my 1and1-hosted site.
Where would I go to find a guide on a how-to for Linux website administration? I want to learn how to create a simple site dedicated to my blog. I already have a blog hosted by wordpress. I want to learn how to administrate my own blog using Apache hosted by GoDaddy.com or some other host.
I'm trying to get mySQL Daemon to start when the machine starts up (and it requires root privileges to run). The command to startup would be
Code: sudo /etc/init.d/mysql start however that would prompt for a password, and that would not be very well possible now would it? Now, if i try to start it up without being root, it will not start. So this is my problem, maybe someone out there would know a bit more about this than me.
i have two machines at home running ubuntu linux and windows connected by lan. on ubuntu machine i have mysql installed, how do i go about accessing ubuntu mysql database on my windows machine.
Im having a frustrating issue with my two machine cluster I setup using Conga. Everything was working great except now when lucci starts mysql the port (3306) is never opened to outside machines. I can do a "ps -ef | grep mysql" and see it running as well as login to mysql on the node it is running on - but an nmap of the machine does not show the 3306 port and I cannot login to mysql remotely and yes I turned off all iptables(iptables,ip6tables) and SElinux is disabled. What am I missing here? If I start mysql on my own (and it is using the same my.cnf as lucci is) it does show the port open and works perfect,t for some reason when lucci starts it, no dice
Mysql starting problem after changing mysqladmin password.I tried all the solutions available on forums, but not solve the problem. At last I restored the mysql db backup, this make mysql service start, but till other databases not showing all tables.
I have install mysql on my fedora12. My different mysql server is located in us. I want to check health status and hits per seconds everything. Is it possible with mysql-administrator command.
now a these days i am connect through ssh and excuting below command
#mytop mysql -u root -p <passwd>
In my mysql db i have added the userip & passwd (allowed the privileages for that ip)
If i use mysql-administrator i am getting below error
MySQL Error Nr. 2003 Can't connect to MySQL server on '66.98.152.64' (111)
I think this goes here, but I'm not sure. I decided that XAMPP had been troublesome enough. MySQL never worked. So I decided to instal the LAMP stack offered by YaST. I went about installing it thinking that it would all work. But it seems that I was wrong. So I try to start mysql, and here's what I get:
Code: the-matrix:~ # mysql start ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) or Code: the-matrix:~ # rcmysql start Starting service MySQL warning: /var/mysql/mysql.sock didn't appear within 30 seconds chmod: cannot access `/var/run/mysql/mysqld.pid': No such file or directory
I successfully installed the virtual box on my fedora 8 system, and also created a virtual machine with windows xp OS, it works nicely, I try to configure the serial port of my virtual machine and try to configure the path for the port "screen shot are attached" it gives me the error message also the "screen shot are attached" for your review. Is kind of mistake is going on during the path setting, and how to set the path for configuring the serial port of my virtual machine so that I can use the hyper terminal tool of windows.
I have some file tools on a mint machine that I would rather not install on my mac laptop. Mainly because of the vastness of apt-get and the low risk of installation failure. Anyway, every so often I have a file that I want to process in place using some remote tool. Both machines can ssh right in to each other so I was figuring there must be some script or tool out there that would allow me to type out something like remote [file] [tool & args] to send my file to the other machine, get it processed, then get it back.
I'm know very little about Linux but decided to set up a machine running Drupal CMS on a Debian machine and it won't go. The folks at Drupal have tried to help but it seems the Debian OS won't do it's PHP thing for Drupal.
That means i'll have to start at the START I guess.
how to become a master of Linux if one is starting from ABC (I can add and subtract, that's what it feels like)
