Ubuntu Servers :: Use Local Server To Back-up Godaddy Hosted Mysql?

Apr 4, 2010

So, I have a website that is hosted at Godaddy and I've set up a database with the ability to access it remotely. I was wondering if there is an easy way to set up an automated back-up of said database at Godaddy, to my local server.

Ubuntu Servers :: Forwarding Domains From Godaddy To Home Server?

Jul 1, 2010

I recently purchased a GoDaddy domain with the intent of hosting a website myself at home on a box First of all, I don't have a static IP, so I set up dyndns with my router. Do I want to just have GoDaddy forward traffic to my dyndns account? Or do I manually change the nameservers? To what? Also, this seems to work for http(s) traffic only. What happens if I want to use ssh/ftp/smtp? And do I need to configure anything on my end aside from installing/configuring the appropriate server binaries? Is there a way to update GoDaddy when my ip changes?

Ubuntu Servers :: Error: 'Can't Connect To Local MySQL Server Through Socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)

Apr 10, 2010

After the upgrade from 8.10 to 9.04, all was well. But after the upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10, I lost the MySQL server. Now, I recall during the upgrade, I was asked if I wanted to keep the existing my.cnf file or replace it with a newer one. I did as suggested and kept the original as I had edited it before. The same question was asked with a couple other config files. I kept the original in each case. After the first step, I checked the server was running and the websites were up, all was well. After the update to 9.10, when I checked the server, I get the following error:

Code: error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)' Check that mysqld is running and that the socket: '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' exists! Can anyone point me in the right direction to getting this resolved?

Fedora :: MYSQL Error 2002 (HY000): Can't Connect To Local MySQL Server Through Socket?

Feb 22, 2011

I've been attempting to set up a LAMP for local web development, which meant installing mysql-server. But now have a problem when trying to run mysql, I get:-

ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)

When trying to downgrade mysql-server I saw that there are dependency problems between the various modules (but can't recall which). But whichever route I truied the results are always the same.

Thought about trying XAMPP but I note that even has it's problems, is there any way I can get a lamp set up on FC14, or must I give it up as a bad job.

Howver, just been trying to again to fix the problems with downgrading mysql and get:-

General :: Two Mysql's Hosted On Machine?

Jan 7, 2011

Operating system CentOS Linux 5.5 Kernel and CPU Linux 2.6.18-194.11.3.el5 on x86_64 hosted with sonic.net

we have a strange setup for one of our clients... the problem is that the machine was orginal setup with mysql and php and when they build out the website...

the other guys installed lampp and setup the website into the htdocs folder into the lampp directory.

the problem is that when we SSH. we get into a different mysql

and the website is running on it's own mysql setup which was originally setup with lampp.

now, we want to setup another database and it won't let us do it... just because we don't have the root username and password for the mysql of lampp.

bottomline, we have two mysql's running on the same matchine.

1. we can ssh into.

2. the website runs on.

is there any way we can reset the passsword of the phpmyadmin of the lampp root user.

Ubuntu Servers :: Setting Up Static IP With Godaddy?

Jul 2, 2010

Ok so I got my server running with apache2. I can access it via the web with my static IP.

I registered on Godaddy for a domain, and sucessfully setup URL forwarding. When I type in that domain it takes me to my website, but the browser shows the IP address again. Should I not be using "URL forwarding"? I'm guessing I have to do something on my server side saying what domain it is but I don't know which file to change and I am scared to touch anything. Although I'm a programmer, I'm not a network person.

None of my other logins work, either, but since pgrep mysql didn't work, it's clear that MySQL just isn't running. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling mysql-server via apt-get, but I get the same thing. The logs in /var/log/syslog show this:

General :: Setting Up Local Server For Php / Mysql

Now, I've got Ubuntu 9.04 on my laptop and want to continue working with the book I have on it, so I can do some of the work when I'm away from home as well. Questions I have are:

1. How to set a server up?
2. SQL? (mysql?)
3. php? How do I check if I already have any of those installed on my system, and if not how to set them up?
4. where would the root system be for the server if I have it, or if not, where will it be?
5. do I refer to it as "localhost" here aswell i.e. [URL]
