I have recently installed Linux mint on my 2007 mac book pro and i found that my touch pad/track pad is not as sensitive as it was running the mac os. i can no longer move my cursor with the tip of my finger.
View 3 RepliesI spent the last hour and a half googling for pointers, reading manpages,and trying synaptics settings to get my touchpad to work like it does in OSX on my unibody macbook pro.I can't find anything that works.What I want: Since my MBP 5,4 doesn't have a dedicated mouse button, I normally rest my thumb on the bottom section of the touchpad.That way I can tap with my thumb while using my index finger to move the pointer.OS X smartly ignores the fact that my thumb is resting on the touchpad,and lets me move the pointer as if my thumb weren't there.I can then use my middle finger for two finger scrolling, and everything magically works
On my nice shiny new install of Ubuntu 9.10, if I have my thumb anywhere on the touchpad, it registers as a two-finger scroll,thus making it impossible to move the pointer while resting my thumb on the touchpad.Even if I disable two-finger scrolling, the cursor will not move with two fingers on the touchpad.A passable solution would be disable two-finger scrolling detection in the lower part of my touchpad, or even disable the lower part of the touchpad completely.A better solution would be to allow me to scroll into the lower portion, but not initiate a two finger scroll from the lower portion.
Synaptics settings that have not worked for me:
AreaBottomEdge: This disables moving the pointer from the bottom section of my touchpad, but does not disable two-finger scrolling from the bottom section. This is essentially the exact opposite of what I want.
BottomEdge: This doesn't seem to have any relation to two-finger scrolling.I haven't been able to get anything useful to come out of setting this.These references haven't helped (although they are interesting):I haven't been able to find any threads discussing this particular issue.
I am running PClinuxOs 2007 version. It will not fully loaded during start up. it prompted:

the cursor is blinking but does nothing more.
can i change the behavior of my touchpad so that when i tap it with two fingers it emulates a middle mouse button click (mouse 3). Right now when I tap two fingers it emulates a right-click.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI read that synaptic touchpads should support multitouch and as I have one of those I tried to enable it. However I wasn't successful.
After some digging in config files (I had to enable SHMConfig) I ended up with KDE configuration tool which is really cool but all multitouch options are there disabled. And also there is an information which says that only one finger is detected by this touchpad.
Is something wrong or my touchpad just doesn't support multitouch? I got this laptop 1.5 years ago so it's not very old.

I'm newish to the forum, but have been using ubuntu for the past few months.I recently upgraded from eeebuntu (a 9.04 derivative) to 10.04, and found that two finger tapping my touchpad has gone from middle click to right click, (and 3 fingers is now middle instead of right).
From what I've seen, this has been changed since 9.10, but I haven't been able to find a permanent solution yet. Most fixes have been from before and use hal, or other things that don't exist anymore. The one thing I've found does work is using xinput and the command

But that has to be run every time I start up, and it occasionally reverts while I'm using the computer. I've tried making a script that runs at startup, but neither adding it to the list of startup programs, or autostart folder has worked, but running the script file manually does work. I'm a bit at wits end with this, it's the only issue I've had with 10.04, and I've spent many many hours trying to get it to work (I've also tried gsynaptics and the newer version whose name escapes me right now). Hopefully there's a permanent fix out there.
I recently bought a macbook pro 5,5 (unibody) and I'm running both OSX and Ubuntu 9.10. I love the laptop, but I've been having some issues with the touchpad in karmic.
In OSX, I can keep my thumb on the bottom of the touchpad as if it were a button and operate the rest of the touchpad as normal. With my thumb on the bottom of the pad, I can still click and drag and use two finger scrolling.

If I have a thumb on the touchpad, it always assumes I'm two-finger scrolling. I've tried synclient BottomEdge=600, but it doesn't make any difference.
My biggest problem has always been with this touchpad. The fix that I have makes it so that if you click and drag, then release a finger too early, the drag fails. It makes it almost unusable. It is also overly sensitive. I was wondering if anyone has found a solution to this. Right now it is the only thing stopping my migration from Windows.

i upgraded from f13 to f14 using preupgrade.
now, as the title suggests, the two finger tap acts as a right click, and the three button tab acts as a middle click. and also the tap to click seems disabled by default.

I've just successfully installed Ubuntu 11.04 on my macbook pro, but when I boot, I just get a blinking cursor. I've tried the following to try to fix it, with nothing working:Press "Shift" to boot into GRUB (result: doesn't respond)Using liveCD, edit grub settings to allow for this (result: same as before).Chroot using liveCD to install required video packages (result: updates work, but installing new or upgradingexisting packages fails because it can't properly start jobs. I assume this is because it wants to use resources that would exist if the system were truly booted from the HD but the resources don't exist in the LiveCD environment)Chroot using LiveCD and try using jockey-text to install NVidia drivers as suggested on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBookPro5-3/Lucid by command line instead of by GUI.Can't connect to certain sockets (the device files don't respond because they're not in the active system, I guess).

I have a small issue I couldn't find a solution for. I'm running Centos 5.5 on a Fujitsu-Siemens S6120 laptop. When I boot my system and use the touchpad for the first couple of seconds my mouse cursor jumps around the screen sporadically and also mouse buttons "gets pressed" by themselves (without me actually touching them). After 1-2 seconds the situation becomes absolutely normal - mouse moves good and buttons work only when I press them.
Everything repeats after the reboot.
I see the following error in the system log:
psmouse.c: Mouse at isa0060/serio4/input0 lost synchronization, throwing 1 bytes away
It appears right when I try to use the touchpad for the first time, I guess.
The situation isn't critical, but is quite annoying. Is there a way to get it fixed? I searched the Net, but found mostly issues with mouse loosing sync during operation - such thing never happened to me, as my issue appears only once per boot.
Installed linux mint in a virtual box (ose).Only problem,can't get the cursor out of the window,thus unabling me to unmount the iso so keeps reinstalling.Does anyone know how to set it so I can get the cursor to move outside the virtual box.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Fedora 14. I'm running a Athlon X2 with 4gb memory and nVidia 8400. I'm using the nvidia drivers ver 260. I'm running KDE 4.6. I've disabled desktop effects (when turnt on they work a charm, performance issues are the same either way). If I open any more than a few applications at once, the system grinds to a halt. even working with Kwrite is painful and it can take several seconds just to move the cursor, browsing the file is almost impossible.
When I have even 7 windows open X goes into a frenzy and sticks around 90% cpu usage. Even with no windows open if I move my mouse between screens X cpu usage stays between 50% and 90%. The system is unbearably slow. i have a XP Pro system with the same spec, lower GPU and I have no problems having 2/3 Visual Studios open, Photoshop, a few skype windows, Eclipse and the android emulator the system remains responsive but with this Linux box I can't even do basic stuff in Kwrite without it grinding to a haltJust.
I'm using Mac as a main machine and Ubuntu Netbook as a secondary. Although synergy gives me a good control over Netbook when it works without external monitor, but when I activate VGA monitor, I can only move around the limited region (details are below).
Phenomenon: Cursor can move in the external monitor's screen. No way to move cursor into the netbook's screen via synergy (it's possible from local touchpad/mouse) In the external monitor's screen, curosor moves only within limited region, which I'm guessing is as large as the size of netbook's screen.
Configuration: Use dual screens (uncheck "Same image in all monitors" in the tool "Monitor" on Ubuntu)

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm fairly new to ubuntu and I've been messing around with customizing my desktop/UI over the past week or so and I must have messed something up. After I got sick of how slow Wallpapoz was to change backgrounds between workspaces (I'm using GNOME) I turned on the Wallpaper plugin in Compiz and turned off the nautilus desktop. That worked great for the backgrounds but now whenever I try to drag windows around the cursor shudders and shakes and the wondows won't move smoothly. I eventually get them to where I want them to go but it's very annoying.
So far, I have re-enabled the nautilus desktop and reinstalled nautilus with synaptic, neither of which did anything.
The program should work like finger command in an normal ubuntu OS.(which prints the user information)
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to run a service that listens to a port for instructions from a Windows box. It is called timetobackupservice. I use the following command to run the service ./timetobackupservice from a command line. It seems to run, indicates which port it is listening to, but then hangs up. When I move the cursor, it "enters" a bunch of odd characters and I have to close the command line window. When I check to see if the service is listening to the port (netstat -tulnap) it shows that it is not listening.

Now from the research I have done, it says that the best way to install Microsoft office is to use PlayonLinux. However, all the instructions I find on it is how to install it using a CD, whereas I will be getting it via a download not a CD. Can I still install it with PlayonLinux with the download? I'm guessing I would just point the PlayonLinux to where my downloaded file is, but I want to make sure before I order it. Also will its functionality be just as good as when its used on Windows. I ask, because even though I am a newbie to Linux, I am liking it and would like to completely switch. However, the copy of office from my school is more expansive than the one I currently have, so if it won't function as well I put my school copy on Windows, but if it does I'll use my school copy on my Linux since I will be eventually attempting to switch to it once I finish my course on Unix/Linux. By the way I have Fedora 14 for a 64 bit system, in case that effects anything.
